This chapter provides an insight in to the different levels of complexity of the interactions people have within a work system, including automated systems which may or may not improve human and overall system performance. Human Factors Engineering or ?ergonomics? is the application of human factors knowledge to the design of systems and a human-centered design approach is advocated.
