Abstract

Research work published as a scientific research paper disseminates the knowledge and information to a larger audience.Dissertation and thesis have a different meaning although both are used synonymously.Publication of research paper enhances fellowship and job opportunities for young researchers.Publication of research paper gives funding and leadership opportunity for senior researchers.Publication of both positive and negative results contributes to future research.Research papers provide reliable information about a disease and the available treatment options for patients.

... Moreover, Meyer argues that as academics, through our research and dissemination, we also have a responsibility to contribute to the social good. I fervently support this idea-as do others (e.g., Parija and Kate, 2017), and I would add that as researchers and supervisors, we have the added responsibility to help our students achieve the same goal. Yet, for most students, graduation and getting a job are the goals of tertiary study. ...

Reviews certain aspects of the communication crisis in science. Empirical findings relative to the nature of a scientific discipline's role in evaluating, processing, and compacting scientific information for researchers, scholars, and students are presented. An overview of data is provided, collected by the american psychological association project on scientific information exchange in psychology, together with more recent information relative to other disciplines. The roles of formal vs. Informal channels for communicating scientific information are compared. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)

This paper investigates the impact of research productivity on the salaries of marketing faculty members. We examine how the number of articles published in various types of publications affects faculty members' nine-month salary using a sample of three years of information on 298 marketing professors from 33 research-oriented, public universities. Consistent with research conducted in other disciplines, we find a positive impact of publishing on salary. We estimate the individual salary impact for each of the four top-tier journals in marketing, finding that the biggest impact on salary comes from publishing in . Further, we find that publishing in Tier 1 journals in marketing has a bigger salary impact than in Tier 1 journals outside marketing. Finally, we find that faculty and department characteristics also affect salary. For example, being from a higher ranked research university and being a full professor are each associated with higher salary.

Qualitative and quantitative methods are being developed to measure the impacts of research on society, but they suffer from serious drawbacks associated with linking a piece of research to its subsequent impacts. We have developed a method to derive impact scores for individual research publications according to their contribution to answering questions of quantified importance to end users of research. To demonstrate the approach, here we evaluate the impacts of research into means of conserving wild bee populations in the UK. For published papers, there is a weak positive correlation between our impact score and the impact factor of the journal. The process identifies publications that provide high quality evidence relating to issues of strong concern. It can also be used to set future research agendas.

Examined publication practices in counseling psychology by reviewing 3 counseling psychology journals from 1967 to 1970 to determine the frequencies of articles reporting rejection at the traditional alpha levels. Of 1,046 articles examined, 86% used tests of statistical significance. Findings suggest that "traditional" significant results were related to publication.
