Abstract

This article is concerned with the possibility that the development of mixed methods research is being hindered by the tendency that has been observed by some researchers for quantitative and qualitative findings either not to be integrated or to be integrated to only a limited extent. It examines findings from 20 interviews with U.K. social researchers, all of whom are practitioners of mixed methods research. From these interviews, a wide variety of possible barriers to integrating mixed methods findings are presented. The article goes on to suggest that more attention needs to be given to the writing of mixed methods articles.

... The criterion of credibility (internal validity) can be met by two standards; the use of more than one research method, and the use of respondent validation. This means that comments and conclusions can be supported or rejected by participants, and with that (if necessary) readjusted to best represent the nature of the concept investigated (Bryman, 2008). In this study, I used more than one method to make sure there is complementarity of findings. ...
... Ethical considerations in social research primarily entail the notions of informed consent, confidentiality and ethical review board's assistance. Informed consent entails the researcher to give accurate information about the aims of the research to the participants (Bryman, 2008;Patton, 2002). In this study, I informed the participants about the topic and purpose, and why I was interested in using them. ...
... Further, the researcher asked all participants whether the researcher could use them for the study or not. Confidentiality, on the other hand, also involves concealing information given and high level of anonymity (Bryman, 2008;Patton, 2002). In this regard, the participants were informed not to indicate their name on the questionnaire. ...

The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors of early marriage among teenage girls in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region of Ghana. The research objective that guided the study were to investigate the social factors contributing to early marriage among teenage girls in the Jaman South Municipality, to find out the cultural factors contributing to early marriage among teenage girls in the Municipality, and finally, to identify the economic factors contributing to early marriage among teenage girls in the Municipality. A sample size of 150 was selected for the study through simple random sampling. A structured questionnaire was employed for data collection. Data was analysed using frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations. Findings revealed that inadequate parental education, frustration, peer pressure, sexual immorality, were some of the social factors contributing to early marriage. Also, the cultural factors identified included mode of dressing, beliefs, traditional milestone and customs. Unemployment, financial problem facing teenagers, inability to buy contraceptives emerged to be some of the economic factors contributing to early marriage among teenage girls in the Jaman South Municipality. It was however, recommended that community leaders and relevant stakeholders including school counsellors should organise intensive workshops and educational campaign programmes to sensitise parents and guardians on the effects of some cultural practices and how it can jeopardise the future of the teenage girls. It was concluded that the Girl-child unit in Ghana Education Service of the Jaman South Municipality in collaboration with school counsellors should organise regular education, awareness and sensitisation programmes for parents, guardians and teenage girls on the effects of early marriage and to be more responsible in providing basic needs to teenage girls to keep them in school. This will improve their academic performance, enhance their self-confidence, self-esteem and also secure a brighter future for them.
... Researchers must collect extensive data and the process of numerical data analysis and textual analysis is highly time consuming (Clark & Creswell, 2008). Mixed method design also has a lack of balance when it comes to design qualitative and quantitative strategies (Bryman, 2007). Lack of balance can lead to study excessively aimed on one of the designs and can result in supporting aspect of study being isolated, which leads to limited vision (Bryman, 2007). ...

... Another issue relates to project administration and decision making, for example regarding financial resources, leadership, and resourcing across the participating researchers' institutions. Specifically, accounting researchers face a challenge when attempting to publish their mixed methods studies in some journals where the editors and reviewers are resistant to accepting research designs utilising evidence from both quantitative and qualitative data collection (Bryman, 2007;Grafton et al., 2011). It may also be particularly difficult to convince journal reviewers who are strongly wedded to either qualitative or quantitative research traditions (Malina et al., 2011). ...
... Together with the insufficient awareness of MMR application in accounting research, this low acceptance rate in highly ranked accounting journals poses a potential challenge for accounting researchers who wish to diversify their methodological approaches through adopting MMR designs. These scholars face the challenge of not having their MMR studies accepted into these top ranked journals given the dominant quantitative or qualitative approaches to accounting research (Bryman, 2007;Grafton et al., 2011;Malina et al., 2011). ...

The use of the designated special class model for autistic pupils in mainstream schools within the Irish education system has dramatically increased in recent years, as has the scrutiny regarding its alignment with increased policy focus on inclusive education. This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to explore the views of twelve staff members, four special class teachers, four mainstream class teachers, and four principals of primary schools with special classes regarding the role of the special class model in supporting educational inclusion for autistic pupils. Results showed that participants felt specialist provision was an important aspect of appropriate provision for autistic pupils in Irish mainstream primary schools. Findings highlight the need for a tailored, child-centred approach to inclusion, given the challenges of mainstream class environments, with participants advocating for the safe space and support system of the special class for autistic pupils. Participants also identified challenges to inclusion, such as a lack of specialist training or CPD for teachers regarding inclusive practices and the tensions surrounding the inclusion of autistic children in mainstream settings. Principals have a critical role in developing inclusive school environments and supporting the special class. However, there is a need for greater support, training, and resources to help principals effectively fulfil their responsibilities. This underscores the need for departmental consideration of specific training, criteria, and continuous professional development to ensure effective support and inclusion of autistic students within the mainstream school environment.
... Smith and Turner (2022) contend that because researchers may access a wide range of data so urces remotely, it is more economical and time-efficient than traditional fieldwork. However, information gathered from secondary sources like the internet cannot be contextualised, which makes it challenging to completely comprehend the motivations or cultural quirks underlying particular beliefs or actions (Bryman, 2007). In this study, data on mentorship and STS were obtained from prominent databases like Google, ERIC, Research gate, Academia etc. ...

Purpose: This study aimed to support novice teachers in teacher education institutions in Ghana on how mentoring and supported teaching in schools (STS) can be used to shape the novice teacher's thought on the school profile dimension throughout the mentoring relationship. The purpose is to review literature on mentoring using Hudson's five factor mentoring model process and STS and think through how mentoring and STS can be improved in teacher preparation. The Hudson's five factor model of mentoring was used as the conceptual framework. Methodology: The study was conducted using document analysis (secondary data sources), such as reports, online papers, or datasets that have already been gathered from Google, ERIC, Research gate, and Academia. Findings: The findings of the study were that the STS has created an opportunity for mentors to spend time with their mentees and share their professional and pedagogical experiences. Again, it is believed that structured mentoring, feedback and reflection would enhance the student teacher's capacity to succeed. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The study suggests that there should be ongoing professional development for mentors, structured mentoring programmes, feedback and reflection mechanisms to check for coherence through assessment procedures and monitor students' progress. Case study research can also serve to illuminate both positive and problematic aspects of the STS mentoring.

Purpose-This study drawing upon opportunity-ability-motivation (OAM) theory focuses on digital entrepreneurship opportunities (DEOs), knowledge generation capabilities (EKGCs) and enterprise market-sensing capabilities (EMSC) affecting digital innovation in terms of exploitative and exploratory DIs. Design/methodology/approach-Employing quantitative methodology on a sample of 352 software SMEs' managers, the study employed a hierarchical regression analysis to investigate whether and how digital entrepreneurship opportunities and knowledge generation capabilities support and nurture both DIs. Additionally, the moderated-mediation effect of market-sensing capabilities on the relationships among digital entrepreneurship opportunities, enterprise knowledge generation capabilities and DIs are considered. Findings-The study findings reveal that digital entrepreneurship opportunities influence exploitative and exploratory DIs. Knowledge generation capabilities partially mediate the relationship between digital entrepreneurship opportunities and exploitative and exploratory DIs, respectively. Moreover, market-sensing capabilities strengthen not only the effect of digital entrepreneurship opportunities on knowledge generation capabilities but also the effects of knowledge generation capabilities on exploratory DI. The moderated-mediation outcomes reveal that the mediating role of knowledge generation capabilities on the relationship between digital entrepreneurship opportunities and both DIs is stronger when EMSC are high. Originality/value-This research integrates the opportunity-ability-motivation perspective to present a comprehensive framework that reveals the intricate interdependencies among digital entrepreneurship opportunity, knowledge generation and market-sensing capabilities in driving both exploratory and exploitative digital innovation in software SMEs. This approach significantly enhances our understanding of how software SMEs can strategically strengthen their internal skills and resources, ultimately leading to superior digital innovation outcomes.
... Considering the inherent qualities of the research objectives, adopting a positivist approach seems most appropriate. It is widely acknowledged that in order to examine a theory and generate data that can be applied to a broader context, researchers often employ a positivist method (Bryman, 2007). The assessment of an individual's ATT towards using social networking platforms for the purpose of trip preparation comprises three questions. ...

Keywords: Social media, Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), travel planning. The tourism industry is significantly influenced by social media, as it serves as a primary resource for travelers to seek information about various places. This study has been conducted to examine the interrelationships among factors that impact individuals' willingness to use social media platforms for trip planning and the desire to engage in travel activities. The current investigation incorporates the theoretical frameworks of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), while also examining the impact of travel-related material on social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The study used a sample of 388 domestic tourists who were active users of social media platforms. The findings of the study indicate that the components of TAM, specifically perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use in the context of social networks has a favorable impact on individuals' intention to engage in the social media's platform and their desire to visit destination. In addition, the aspects of TPB, specifically the attitude and perceived behavioral control, demonstrate a substantial impact on behavioral intention. The findings indicate that there is a direct and positive relationship of Instagram and YouTube travel content towards behavioral intention. While, there is no significant influence of subjective norms and Facebook's travel content on behavioral intention. This study suggests that Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) can enhance their marketing strategies by leveraging social media platforms, influencer marketing, and user-generated content to attract more tourists. ___________________________________________________________________________

This study aimed to describe the level of digital literacy and the lived experiences of pre-service teachers at a local college in relation to digital literacy in their learning process. Also, to describe the coping mechanism of pre-service teachers on digital literacy with regards to their academic task. This study engaged mixed method design, utilizing parallel convergent approach. The participants of the study were the pre-service teachers from all 4th year level. There were 89 students who were randomly selected for quantitative and 10 for the qualitative: ten for in-depth interview which were purposively selected. Based on the results of the study, it was determined that the level of digital literacy is high. The study results indicated a high level of digital literacy. When the quantitative and qualitative data were compared, they aligned, supporting the TPACK framework's argument that it equips pre-service teachers with a strong foundation in digital literacy. This enables students to effectively use digital tools to enhance their learning experience. It can be concluded that pre-service teachers exhibit strong digital literacy skills, particularly in communication, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. The study also highlights the challenges they face in using digital tools independently, as well as the coping strategies they employ to overcome these barriers. Overall, the positive impact of digital literacy on education outweighs the challenges, reinforcing the importance of continued digital skill development.
... Following Creswell et al.'s seminal work in 2003, the adoption of a quantitative research strategy becomes not just a methodological choice but a strategic imperative when the primary research goal is the discernment of relationships among variables. In alignment with a positivist and deductive approach, as advocated by Bryman (2007), this research is meticulously designed to validate scales drawn from established literature and hypotheses rooted in pre-existing theories. Again, as the study is based on the positivist approach, we have used a survey-based research framework. ...

Purpose This paper aims to ascertain the effects of stress in sales positions and the intention of employees to quit their jobs. The paper also places a distinct focus on unraveling the intricate mechanisms of organizational disidentification that underlie the connection between job stress and the intention to quit. Design/methodology/approach To secure results of high precision and reliability, this study employed a convenient sampling approach to gather data from sales personnel in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). A total of 329 samples were meticulously gathered and subjected to analysis through partial structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using SMART PLS 4.0. This method enabled the relationships between the variables, yielding invaluable insights for our research. Findings The study's findings emphasize a clear connection between job stress and the inclination to quit. The data indicates that heightened job stress increases the likelihood of employees contemplating job departure. Notably, the study unveils organizational disidentification as a crucial factor in this association. Essentially, when employees feel disconnected from their organization, they are more prone to job stress and consider leaving. The takeaway is evident: employers must prioritize employee well-being, foster a positive work environment and thereby diminish job stress to retain their valuable workforce. Research limitations/implications The research makes it evident that job stress is leading employees to withdraw from social interactions and, in some cases, quit their jobs. To address this issue, organizations can lower dissatisfaction by supporting stress management initiatives and promoting a healthy environment. The study underscores the significance of adopting strategies and practices that instill a sense of pride in employees for being part of the organization. This approach not only helps in retaining top talent but also cultivates a more positive work environment. Originality/value Uncovering the nuanced relationship between job stress and the intention to quit is the primary goal of this study. What sets this research apart is its capability to illuminate the existence of organizational disidentification arising from stress in sales jobs.

... These questions do not automatically entail a pessimistic perspective on possibilities for improving quantitative communications and applications, but instead point toward the challenging but achievable goals that must be addressed. Contrary to widespread assumptions as to quantitative methods being inherently homogenizing and reductionist (Bryman, 2007;Chwalisz et al., 2008;Merry, 2016;Porter, 1995;Power, 2004), even physical measurements in the natural sciences have been shown to exhibit hierarchically complex irreducible discontinuities across and within communities of research and practice (Blok et al., 2020;Galison & Stump, 1996;Star, 1989;Star & Ruhleder, 1996). The implications of these complexities demand much closer attention to matters of instrument design and construct modeling, but there are rich traditions available to draw from Butz (2018), Fisher (2023, and Wilson (2013). ...

To address the persistent challenges in healthcare, it is crucial to incorporate firsthand experiences and perspectives from stakeholders such as patients and healthcare professionals. However, the current process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting qualitative data, such as interviews, is slow and labor-intensive. To expedite this process and enhance efficiency, automated approaches aim to extract meaningful themes and accelerate interpretation, but current approaches such as topic modeling reduce the richness of the raw data. Here, we evaluate whether Large Language Models can be used to support the semi-automated interpretation of qualitative interview data. We compare a novel approach based on LLMs to topic modeling approaches and to manually identified themes across two different qualitative interview datasets. This exploratory study finds that LLMs have the potential to support incorporating human perspectives more widely in the advancement of sustainable healthcare systems.

Psychoactive substance misuse tends to affect the social, economic, and mental health of young adult users and their parents. However, there is currently limited research on the challenges of parents of young adults who misuse psychoactive substances. The stress-strain-coping-support theoretical model was used to assess the challenges parents of young adults who misuse psy-choactive substances encounter in Ghana. Based on interpretive phenomenol-ogy, we purposively sampled and conducted in-depth interviews with 15 parents from the Adum-Banso Health Centre. Data was processed with NVivo 12 pro data and analysed thematically with four stages of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The challenges of parents of young adults engaged in psychoactive substance misuse included financial constraints, the onset of negative emotional effects on parents, structural challenges in pursuit of medical treatment, and stigma and discrimination. We have provided empirical data to inform policy decisions on establishing social protection and psy-chosocial support schemes for young adults misusing psychoactive substances and their parents to enhance the rehabilitation of young adults recovering from the impacts of psychoactive substance misuse.

This research aims to analyze the influence of taxpayer knowledge and sanctions on Taxpayer Compliance at KPP Pratama Medan Timur during the Covid-19 Endemic period. This type of research is causality research. The sampling method used the Slovin formula with a total sample of 100 people. Primary data collection was carried out using questionnaires and interviews. The results of this research show that taxpayer knowledge has a significant influence on taxpayer compliance. In contrast, sanctions did not have a substantial impact on taxpayer compliance at the East Medan Pratama KPP during the Covid-19 Endemic period. These findings indicate that taxpayer knowledge plays a crucial role in shaping taxpayer compliance behavior. Having a good understanding of tax obligations and tax procedures can encourage taxpayers to comply with applicable tax regulations. On the other hand, results showing that sanctions do not have a substantial effect could be interpreted to mean that, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, taxpayers may be more influenced by other factors, such as difficult economic conditions or poor understanding regarding the effectiveness of sanctions. The implications of this research can provide guidance for the authorities, especially the East Medan Pratama KPP, in developing strategies to increase taxpayer compliance during the pandemic. Focusing on increasing taxpayer knowledge through tax education and information can be an effective step. Apart from that, further evaluation is needed to understand other factors that might influence taxpayer compliance amidst uncertain conditions due to the pandemic.

The current study draws on synthetic techniques and bibliometric analysis to explore the patterns of scientific collaboration in light of methodological orientations. We examined 3,992 applied linguistics (AL) articles published in 18 top-tier journals from 2009 to 2018 and analyzed their methodological orientations and scientific collaboration. Considering that the number of co-authored papers outweighs single-authored counterparts, our results revealed that the overall degree of collaboration for AL journals was moderate-to-high (57.7%). In particular, quantitative studies contained the highest degree of collaboration (66.8%). This was followed by systematic reviews (60.9%), and mixed-methods approach (55.7%). Country-wise, our overall findings further indicated that the United States and the United Kingdom were the two main hubs of collaborative activities for quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research. While the USA was the top country in systematic reviews like all other research approaches, the UK was the fifth country in systematic reviews. As for collaborating authors, our findings demonstrated that the most influential quantitative researchers had collaborated on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and data mining. While the mixed-methods researchers had a tendency to collaborate on conceptual issues subscribing to the language testing and assessment strand, the most productive qualitative researchers had collaborated on L2 writing issues. Implications for applied linguistics research are further discussed.
... Why? FQ3: What do you consider to be the biggest challenge for a career in data journalism? In both cases, the data that were collected were transcribed verbatim (McLellan et al. 2003;Matsiola et al. 2022), through the scientific reflection of the researchers (Bryman 2007), while, afterwards, they were analyzed inductively (Ando et al. 2014), following the principles of thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke 2006). Both the authors carefully read the transcribed recordings to enhance the reliability and credibility of the research, and, at all stages of the process, the methodology mentioned in the literature was cautiously followed since no type of software was used. ...

As the media landscape continuously evolves in response to the increasing dominance of data, it is important to understand how future journalists perceive and respond to the emerging discipline of data journalism. This paper explores the impact of an introductory session on data journalism conducted with second-year journalism students at Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece. The study aims, through a focus group survey, to assess the students’ initial understanding and beliefs about data journalism and explores how an educational activity, structured as a one-time workshop utilizing a resource from the Al Jazeera Media Institute and data journalism project examples from the BBC, can elucidate the notion of data journalism and stimulate interest in the field. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on the integration of data journalism into journalism curricula and the training of the next generation of journalists. Therefore, the findings could provide valuable insights for educators in understanding journalism students’ perception of data journalism in order to develop effective curricula and teaching methods for data journalism.

Organizations have prioritized green innovation (GI) following the increasing stakeholder pressure (SP) on sustainable growth through megaproject social responsibility (MSR). A sustainable megaproject delivery involves three essential determinants. However, few studies have focused on the complicated relationships between these determinants and megaproject success (MPS). Hence, this study examines the relationships between SP, GI, and MPS by considering the key mediating role of MSR. Data were collected from 245 respondents in Pakistan's construction industries. The study tests the hypotheses using partial least squares structural equation modeling that SP positively influences both MPS and GI, and that MSR partially mediates this relationship. The findings suggest that stakeholder pressure plays a crucial role in promoting MPS and GI through the adoption of socially responsible practices. These findings add to the body of knowledge on the direct and indirect effects of SP and MPS and SP and GI, which have been inconsistent in previous research. In practice, engineering managers can increase GI and MPS by focusing more on SP and MSR.
... However, of the two approaches used to improve under this theme, the mixed method can be particularly positive as, when translated into case studies [36], it can show a broader view of an issue at the case study level [37]. The intersection of the quantitative and qualitative study results allows for the harmonization and solidification of the results and, therefore, of the recommendations that could be drawn from them [38]. ...

Urban agriculture (UA) is an ancient practice in Africa that meets social- and health-related needs. However, it is unclear whether architects and urban planners have incorporated the topic into their research and practices. This study aimed to assess the scientific contributions of these fields to UA and their relevance compared to other disciplines. The research objectives were to evaluate the trends in the subject, architects’ and planners’ involvement, and the effects of UA on health in Africa. As a method, a review was conducted using Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The research query was (“urban agriculture” OR “urban farming”) AND Africa AND (“health” OR “global health” OR “urban health”), and the time frame considered was January 2000 to December 2020. Zotero, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Excel, and VOSviewer were used to collect and analyze metadata. After excluding duplicates, a total of n = 390 articles were involved. The results displayed the mixed health effects of UA, a growing interest in the topic with prominence on food security, and evidence from public health, not architecture and planning. The study recommends more theoretical research on UA by architects, which should be translated into policies and implementation.

Objective Compas-Y is a compassionate mind training app that was co-designed to be fully adapted to mobile technology and to people with newly diagnosed cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the use, appreciation and impact of the app. Methods Seventy-one people with cancer who created an app account were included (38% breast cancer, 72% diagnosed <4 months ago, 76% received chemotherapy). Participants had very high baseline scores of self-compassion. In a convergent mixed methods design, back-end log-data ( n = 71), pre-post surveys ( n = 34) and semi-structured interviews ( n = 23) collected for >8 weeks and were concurrently analysed using joint displays. Results About half of the participants (45%) used 4 of the 6 modules. Compas-Y was highly appreciated, with all content considered relevant and a source of support. Experienced benefits related to improved mental health. Particularly, we found significant changes in anxiety, but not in depression or well-being. In the interviews, people reported experiencing more rest and more positive emotions due to using the app. Process benefits included significant reductions in self-criticism (inadequate self and self-blame), but not self-compassion. In the interviews, people reported improved self-compassion and less self-criticism, more self-awareness, recognition and support, and improved emotion regulation and coping. The surveys did not capture the full range of outcomes that participants reported in the interviews. Conclusions Compas-Y is a highly appreciated mobile intervention that supported users in aspects of their mental health. Findings are discussed in terms of reach and adherence, app functionalities, co-design and tailoring of cancer-related and compassion-based eHealth.
... The inclusivity of the mixed methods also leads quantitative and qualitative methods to be recognised for their pure use-value as confirmatory and exploratory methods, respectively (Onwuegbuzie & Teddlie, 2003); methods that are used in a manner that is mutually illuminating, instead of mutually exclusive (Bryman, 2007). Therefore, mixed methods research leads to a far more complete understanding of phenomena (Denscombe, 2008). ...

Many teachers continue to respond aggressively to students who misbehave. A small handful of studies have investigated the causal events that lead to teacher aggression, but none have investigated the broader causal process of teacher aggression. The present thesis investigated the causal process of teacher aggression using two metatheories of human aggression, which included I3 theory and the General Aggression Model (GAM). Study 1 (N = 249), an ex post facto study, revealed that the causal process of teacher aggression does not follow I3 theory, but instead follows the GAM. Study 1 showed that insecure caregiving indirectly leads to teacher aggression via two mediators (misbehaviour provocation and trait self-control), which function both sequentially and in parallel. Study 2 (N = 110), an experimental study, found that ego depletion does not moderate the indirect relationship between insecure caregiving and teacher aggression when it is mediated by misbehaviour provocation. Finally, Study 3 (N = 2) was a phenomenological interview, which included two participants from Study 1 who recorded relatively unresponsive caregiving styles, high misbehaviour provocation, low trait self-control, and high levels of teacher aggression. Study 3 found that insecure caregiving influences the causal process of teacher aggression through three distinct sub-pathways, including perceiving student misbehaviour as a caregiving rejection, perceiving student misbehaviour as a personal attack, and the fear of losing control of the classroom. The general discussion focuses on the importance of teacher personal history in the causal process of teacher aggression, and considers the possibility that teachers experience a form of countertransference (“teacher countertransference”) in much the same way as psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, and practitioners in related professions.

Purpose This study examines whether digital streaming and observation technologies can serve as an alternative approach for collecting inventory audit evidence, the challenges faced in their adoption and the factors contributing to their non-adoption. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a two-stage, mixed-method approach, beginning with pilot study interviews that informed the comprehensive survey with qualitative and quantitative data. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t -tests and Pearson’s correlation coefficient, while qualitative data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Findings Our findings revealed a positive perspective concerning the effectiveness and reliability of these technologies for inventory audits and the efficiency of internal controls within them, despite challenges such as obtaining a holistic view of the warehouse, observing obsolescence, ensuring inventory completeness and general reliability concerns. Additionally, preferences for physical inventory audits and skepticism about these technologies’ potential to enhance audit quality were identified as factors contributing to their non-adoption. Research limitations/implications These findings have important implications for cost-conscious firms because they reveal that carefully adopting intermediate technologies can enhance the audit process. Our findings are relevant to audit regulators and firms interested in determining whether such technologies enhance audit efficiency and quality. This study highlights the need for updated auditing standards and directives and technologies that meet auditing requirements. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature by uncovering whether less advanced technologies can be used as an alternative approach to collect audit evidence. Consequently, the finding adds to the growing body of literature underscoring the potential of technologies, even less sophisticated ones, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of audits, despite their challenges. Additionally, it underscores the need for clear regulatory standards, suggests that auditors embrace emerging technologies and acquire relevant skills and offers insights for technology developers on audit firms’ concerns regarding digital technologies.

Aim To identify mixed methods studies in nursing and midwifery using secondary analysis and to examine their methodological characteristics. Design Methodological review. Methods A systematic search was conducted to identify empirical mixed methods studies in nursing and midwifery that used secondary analysis. A data extraction sheet was developed based on previous methodological reviews of secondary analysis and mixed methods. Data Sources SCOPUS, Web of Science and CINAHL were searched from inception to March 10, 2023. Supplementary searches were conducted in two methodological journals and six nursing journals. Results A total of 26 mixed methods studies published between 2000 and 2022 were included in the review. Of these, only 13 studies explicitly mentioned the type of mixed methods design used. Twenty studies showed evidence of integration of the quantitative and qualitative components. Most of these studies integrated the components at the interpretation stage, whereas fewer integrated the components during data collection. None of the studies mentioned the rationale for using secondary analysis in the context of a mixed methods study. Conclusion The included studies demonstrated fairly good reporting of mixed methods features, although they generally lacked a rationale for the use of secondary data. Implications for the profession and/or patient care Adequate reporting of mixed methods studies using secondary analysis is essential in order to allow readers to assess whether secondary analysis was appropriately incorporated into a mixed methods study and whether the potential of secondary analysis was fully exploited. Impact This review provides a set of recommendations to transparently report information regarding the research process and results obtained in mixed methods studies using secondary analysis. Reporting Method Items relevant to methodological reviews included in the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA‐ScR) were considered for reporting the review.

There are definitions that analyze different variables from different intellectual positions, this led to carry out a bibliometric tour from the perception of different authors, in this sense we can intellectually dare to conceptualize that competitiveness is the set of models that determine the level of productivity of a country , a sector or a company, however these levels can be affected by different factors that intervene in the process, thus understanding that textile companies belong to a segment of the industry, which due to their characteristics are immersed in the adoption of measures that allow them to compete in a national or international market, industry 4.0, clean production, compliance with international quality standards, fair trade, international certifications, access to international markets, dumping, smuggling... are just a few. Of the advantages that determine business survival, if we add to this factors that directly affect the different production and administrative processes, make the interaction of positioning in the market complex. In this way, the objective of the study phenomenon was to determine the factors that affect the competitiveness of companies in the textile sector of the Province of Pichincha, based on a cross-sectional investigation of a descriptive-correlational type, the sample was established by means of a discretionary sampling not probabilistic applied to 232 companies in the second semester of 2022. For data processing, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences statistical program was used. The main result being the validation and identification of the factors that influence the competitiveness of textile companies, finally it was concluded that there are factors that have a positive and moderate influence on the competitiveness of the textile sector from the dimensions proposed.

Israeli society is witnessing a sharp division between religion and the state. The existing polarization between the religious and the secular is increasing in terms of both the secularization of society and the tendency towards more religiosity. This study focuses on exploring the impact of populist religious parties in Israel on the secularism of the state, as well as the secularization of society, and studies the phenomenon of the emergence of religious populism in Israel. A case study of the populist religious Shas party was conducted to gain a better understanding of the nature of religious parties and their role in Israeli political life. By highlighting Shas' role in Israeli politics, the reasons for the growth of populist Jewish currents in Israel, and their impact on the state's secularism, can be explored and better understood. Since the establishment of Israel, Zionism has failed to create a unified society with a secular and nonreligious identity as the status quo agreement opened the door to the authority of religion in both public and private affairs. Secularism, an ideology that guarantees the neutrality of the state and exclusion of religion from public affairs, cannot be applied in Israel as the imposing religious authority is entitled according to the nation's pre-existing, yet dated, status quo. As for the process of secularization as a process of societal change, secularization in Israel cannot progress through secularism as an ideology, as this method contradicts the dominance of religious authority according to the status quo in Israel, which finds acceptance by most Israelis.

The expansion of E-wallet service providers in Indonesia is quite encouraging. In its report, Bank of Indonesia indicated that 48 E-wallet services are lawful. This is consistent with the number of E-wallet transactions, where USD 1.5 billion were recorded in 2018 and this number is expected to increase in 2023. This statistic increases the researcher's motivation to investigate E-wallet acceptability in Indonesia. The intention to use e-wallets among Indonesian adults must be studied in order to comprehend adoption factors, identify user preferences, inform marketing strategies, promote financial inclusion, and inform policy and regulatory decisions. This cross-sectional quantitative study conducted in Indonesia aimed to examine the factors influencing the formation of an intention to use electronic wallets (E-Wallets). It focused on perceived ease of use, perceived trust, perceived risk, perceived usefulness, social influence, compatibility, facilitating conditions, and perception of new technology. While previous studies have explored factors influencing users' intention to adopt electronic wallets, few have explicitly focused on mediating factors in the Indonesian context. This study fills this gap by investigating the mediating factors that affect Indonesian users' intention to adopt electronic wallets. It enhances the understanding of the direct factors influencing users' intention and sheds light on the complex relationships of other factors (mediators) that explain the underlying dynamics of this phenomenon. The study analyzed data from 384 valid participants using partial least squares and structural equation modeling with Smart PLS 4.0. The findings revealed that e-wallet facilitating conditions, perceived usefulness, perceived trust, compatibility, perception of risk, and perception of new technology positively and significantly influenced users' intention to use e-wallets in Indonesia. However, social influence and ease of use did not have a positive impact on e-wallet adoption intention among the Indonesian sample. The implications of this study suggest that e-wallet providers should prioritize balancing ease of use and security in their systems. If an e-wallet system is perceived as too easy to use, it may raise concerns about safety and unauthorized access, negatively affecting users' intention to adopt electronic wallets. Therefore, e-wallet providers should ensure user-friendly systems that address security concerns. Future research should explore other factors related to e-wallet adoption and assess their long-term effects on users' intention to use and adopt e-wallets. Despite its limitations, this study provides valuable insights for e-wallet providers, policymakers, and researchers in understanding electronic wallet adoption in Indonesia. It offers guidance for developing effective strategies and interventions to promote widespread adoption and use of electronic wallets.

Mixed methods research (MMR) has been widely adopted in a plethora of disciplines. Integration is the pressing issue regarding the legitimation, the added value, and the quality of using MMR, though inadequate literature has discussed effective strategies used in the field of education, including school psychology, counseling, and teacher education. This study reviewed 119 recently published MMR articles in education using a four-dimension codebook with the goal to explore generic integration strategies and innovative strategies used by educational researchers in practice. As a result, three most commonly used generic integration strategies were identified, including (1) using a good mixed methods (MM) research question to guide research design, (2) using appropriate MM sampling strategy to obtain good data for achieving integration, and (3) using multiple MM data mixing strategies to facilitate integration. Moreover, five creative integration strategies were found at the method level: (1) using an innovative survey to collect both qualitative and quantitative data, (2) using visual support to collect data, (3) using high-tech methods to facilitate data collection, (4) using data visualization in mixing, and (5) quantitizing categorized QUAL data. This review summarizes and analyzes the effective integration strategies commonly used at the research design level and at the method level. It also provides valuable recommendations for educational researchers to explore creative strategies to achieve efficient integration when they conduct mixed methods research.

This study investigates differences in torture-related witness statements during the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. It follows a three-phased sequential mixed methods design to identify disparities between testimonies of former detainees and interrogators and to examine how different methods complement each other for a comprehensive perspective on witness accounts. This includes training a natural language processing (NLP) model, sentiment analysis (SA), and qualitative content analysis (QCA). The qualitative and NLP-based analyses showed apparent differences between witness groups; a significant difference in sentiment values could not be detected. This study presents the first mixed methods approach based on court transcripts in genocide research. Its digital approach contributes to mixed methods research (MMR) by showing how NLP and data transformation can contribute to integration.

Data analysis is an important step in the research process as it influences the quality and standard of reporting research findings. Based on a review of the content of 255 doctorate theses, the use of computer applications for data analysis in educational research was assessed. It was feasible to assess how extensively used and accepted computer packages had become in educational research using an aspect of the diffusion of innovations theory as part of the conceptual framework. The results showed that the use of computer applications to analyse data was more prevalent among researchers using quantitative and mixed-methods research methodologies than among qualitative educational researchers. Educational researchers have not yet fully adopted innovative computer data analysis techniques in their research. It is evident that they use traditional technologies more than computer applications in their research. Name dropping of the computer applications used without employing the language or visualisations features provided by the applications was rife. This article bridges the gap between methodological scholarship and the use of computer applications in data analysis. It illuminates the potential of computer software to enhance the quality of the reporting of findings. The article aims to contribute to improvements in the standard of research reporting and the attributes of the graduates. The practical methodological advice in this article is aimed at guiding researchers who consider using computer packages in data analysis, irrespective of their methodological orientation. It stimulates debate on the use of computer applications in data analysis.

“Multimethod research”—defined as the use of more than one methodology in a single research project—offers a number of potential benefits. Indeed, the siren song of a multimethod approach seems to be growing ever stronger. The song promises numerous intuitively appealing strengths—for instance, the potential to generate and test theory in a single manuscript. Using multiple methods concurrently can also help researchers triangulate on the answer to their research question, enabling inferences that are high in both internal and external validity (Molina-Azorin, 2012). Moreover, multimethod designs can facilitate a more complete and accurate understanding of organizations, which are multidimensional and complex. Given no single research approach can tap into all of the various attributes of organizations, combining multiple approaches can enable important new insights (Daft & Lewin, 1990) that are both theoretically and practically valuable (Aguinis, Werner, Lanza Abbott, Angert, Park, & Kohlhausen, 2010).
