Social media is a platform that we use every day and spend much time on them. Therefore, it is necessary to know the basic information about the advantages and disadvantages of using social media. Our research deals with social media and their perception of the general public. We examined by the survey which social media people use, for what purpose they are used and how they perceive the positive and negative aspects of using social media. After analyzing the survey results, we’ve identified the three most used social media in the European Union and the opinion of social media users on the advantages and disadvantages associated with their use.

1. Introduction

1. Introduction
Social media are very often lately dissolving theme and also have great popularity among users. Therefore, it is
interesting to address the issue of the perception of their social media users. Our research is focused on the specific
use of social media and the perception of the advantages and disadvantages of their use by respondents.

In our paper, we are presenting the results of data surveyed from 275 respondents from European Union including:
structure of utilization of social media, for what purpose they are used and how they perceive the positive and negative
aspects of using social media.
1.1. Web 2.0 and Social Media
The term Web 2.0 describes trends and ways in which the web will probably take. However, someone argue that
Web 2.0 is just a bubble - marketing term created how to amaze and gain customers with something that does not
exist. The second on the other hand see new quality and others say that Web 2.0 = social media. 1
Social media have revolutionized the use of Internet as a tool to propagate products and promote their sale. Opens
the possibility of less expensive and more effective online marketing and also offer new approaches to direct contact
with potential customers, inspire in developing business and communication strategy.
Every day millions of users publish their articles, photos and videos with the help of services such as YouTube,
Flickr, Wordpress and share them with others. The phenomenon of user-generated content got into the center stage
approximately in 2005 with the arrival of so-called waves of Web 2.0. Many experts led by Tim O'Reilly pointed to
the rising trend of involving the user directly to the creation of the site. Thus formed web has become more targeted
and more useful. As best seen on sites that are now symbols of social media: Facebook (* 2004), YouTube (* 2005)
and Twitter (* 2006). Probably with the best definition came Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein who identified
social media as "a group of Internet applications built on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0
that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content." 2
Social media allow people to exchange ideas and opinions, discuss together the content of pages and make contacts
online. 3 Social media is different from traditional mainstream media in that their content can create everybody as well
contribute into it or comment on it. 4 They may have a text format, may be an audio, video or photographs and other
visual forms that bring together communities, and assist people who want to associate together. 5
To make it easier to understand them, it is important to note that there are two terms that sound similar, and many
people are confused about them, they are: social media and social networks. The term social media is superior to the
social networks and includes various media that people use for online communication and collaboration and also to
develop social interaction (sociability). Social media include blogs, wikis, video or photo sharing sites and more other
things.
Creating social networks belongs under the social media and the term is used when it is some way of people
interaction, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and so on. We are talking about creating social networks when
people create personal profiles and interact with the aim of becoming part of a community of friends and people who
have "the same blood type," that are interested to communicate and exchange information.
2. Results
In our paper, we are presenting the results of data surveyed from 275 respondents from European Union including:
structure of utilization of Web 2.0, risks and their perception by respondents and general principles of security.
Subsequently, after analyzing of this data we have managed the design of specific recommendations for safety
using of social media.

2.1. The most used platforms of Web 2.0

From Graph 2 below it can be seen that the most widely used Web 2.0 in the EU are wiki-systems with 89.2%, the
second most widely used Web 2.0 to Web sites for sharing videos with 86.5%, followed by the search engine with
81.1 % of respondents.
Despite the fact that the results vary by region, the three most widely used Web 2.0 social networks, video sharing
sites, search engines and fourth in their follow-wiki systems.
2.2. The Use Social Media in European Union
In the first part of the questionnaire survey we investigated in the users' social media which ones are used and for
what purpose. Here we wanted to find out extent of the use of social media in this area, based on which we would like
to identify the most used social media.

The most used Web 2.0 platforms in the European Union (89.2%) is the social networking site Facebook. The
second most used Web 2.0 has become Google+, in the EU use it to 56.8% of respondents. The third most widely
used Web 2.0 application is Instagram, in the EU it is used by 48.6% of respondents.

In the next question participants were asked to what purpose they use platforms of Web 2.0. In the EU they are
most used to the contact with friends (83.3%) and the acquisition of information (80.6%) of respondents.
2.3. Advantages of social media

On the chart, you can see the benefits of Web 2.0 platforms respondents perceive and which are most important to
them. The biggest advantage associated with the use of Web platforms 2 are not as exchange of information and
communication. This possibility is said to 97,7% of respondents from EU countries.
The second biggest advantage is the sharing of data by the respondents. In the EU said this option to 83.3% of
respondents.

2.4. Disadvantages of social media

The biggest drawback, according to all respondents is Internet addiction. This claim 72.2% of respondents from
the EU countries.
It is followed by lack of security (61.1%), information overload (58.3%) and loss of social contacts (47.2%).
3. Conclusion
Following research in in the literature, we have identified several advantages of social media. These include
information exchange and communication, teamwork and work from home, data sharing, sharing hardware and
peripherals, services and education.
Advantages of social media, we offered respondents a choice perceived as follows. These are the most important
to them. The biggest advantage associated with the use of social media is exchange of information and communication.
This marked as a biggest advantage to 97.7% of respondents surveyed in EU countries.
The second biggest advantage by the respondents is sharing of data. In EU countries said it 83,3% of respondents.
Disadvantages or threats to which participants were asked, we have identified a survey in the literature dealing with
this issue. From the large number of disadvantages of using social media, we selected the following, we offered as a
choice for respondents. These include lack of security, internet addiction, information overload, loss of social contacts.
The biggest disadvantage by 72.2% of respondents from EU's internet addiction.
It is followed by lack of security, information overload and loss of social contacts.
Another disadvantage of using social media is as follows. For example, a major drawback is the increased
percentage of time spent on social media.

The internet of things has revolutionized Chinese agricultural production and marketing sectors, creating “New Farmers.” WeChat is one of the most popular social media platforms in China, and WeChat marketing of agricultural products has become a widespread phenomenon. To respond to the quality and safety concerns of consumers on the social media marketing platform, New Farmers should pay more attention and maintain the quality and safety of the agricultural products they sell on WeChat. Our objective is to understand the determinants influencing the New Farmers' quality and safety knowledge of the fresh fruits they sell on WeChat. For this purpose, we collected data in 2018 from a sample of 504 purely sales-oriented New Farmers in China. We analyzed the influence of WeChat marketing, food safety awareness, personal characteristics, and external factors on purely sales-oriented New Farmers' quality and safety knowledge related to the fresh fruits they sell on WeChat based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework. Results indicated that purely sales oriented New Farmers' ranking of their understanding of the quality and safety status (pesticides, fertilizers, and quality and safety certifications) of the fruits depend on factors such as consumers' consultation frequency about quality and safety information to New Farmers, consumers' word of mouth, sales status of fruits, WeChat regulation, quality and safety awareness of New Farmers, gender, training received, government regulations, and consumers attention to food safety. The findings should be helpful to strengthen the quality and safety management, training, and supervision of New Farmers.

Objectives: YouTube is the most popular social media and is widely used to access dental and oral diseases information. Nonetheless, the quality of online health information remains a problem. This study aimed to analyze the quality, usefulness, reliability, visibility, and popularity of YouTube videos about dental caries as a source of information. Materials and methods: The study design was a cross-sectional analytical study. Here, 300 videos that were uploaded in September 2019-2020 were screened, and total duration, number of views, number of likes, number dislikes, uploader category (individual users or health professionals), and upload date of the videos were recorded. One hundred videos were analyzed in terms of their quality, usefulness, reliability, visibility, and popularity using the Global Quality Scale, usefulness score, DISCERN, viewing rate, and interaction index, respectively. Results: Videos were 78% uploaded by individual users. Videos uploaded by health professionals showed high scores in quality, usefulness, and reliability. Videos that were greater than 6 min long exhibited both better quality and higher popularity. Video with good-quality showed high visibility and popularity. In addition, videos with better usefulness and reliability showed high visibility; however, their popularity was low. Conclusions: Information about dental caries on YouTube is limited in quality. YouTube videos have a potentially important role in oral health education.

The rapid and vast adoption of these technologies is changing how we find partners, access details from the news, and organize to demand political changes and many other factors. Students who receive literacy training tied to real-life assignments show greater improvement in literacy scores. The significance of this study revolves around the prominent role accorded social media in academic community for research, teaching and learning. In spite of the benefits associated with the use of social media for academic purposes, it is observed that many students, teachers/lecturers have not been fully exploring these advantages to improve their academic performance. The study investigated the awareness, access and social media challenges encountered by postgraduate students of Information Studies, UKZN during the lockdown caused by COVID-19 pandemics. The study employed a quantitative research design in form of an online questionnaire, using Google Forms. Fifty-five post-graduate students were sampled, of which 51 participated, giving a response rate of 93%. The findings revealed (Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, Twitter and WhatsApp) as major (100%) types of social media available for post graduate students for their academic purpose. The findings further revealed smartphone as a major tool for accessing social media by the respondents (96%), and the major challenges restraining students from effectively utilising social media for academic activities. The study underscores the importance of social media in an academic environment and offers some recommendations that could lead to more informed and effective use of social media for academic purposes.

This qualitative study explored the use of mobile-based social media technologies in the library services at the Federal University Lafia, North Central Nigeria. The purpose was to understand the academic information-seeking behaviour of the student library users while using mobile-based social media and other mobile-based technologies. A further purpose was to identify some of the barriers the students encountered when seeking information. Meyer’s (2016) information behaviour model provided the conceptual framework for the study. For this reason, the literature review and the empirical data were structured according to the six major information behaviour components identified in the model. These are information, user, context, technology, information needs, and information activities. Meyer’s model recognises technology as an important enabler of information behaviour. After clarifying these concepts, the discussion explored mobile technologies and mobile applications to acquire an understanding of these technologies and applications and the way in which they could be employed by a library to enhance its services. After that, the literature review focused on the way in which mobile technologies and social media are employed by users (especially students) to seek information that is supportive of their information needs. In this discussion, the influence the interplay between context and the users’ cognitive, affective and sensorimotor structures have on the users’ information needs and seeking behaviour was explored. The study used a descriptive qualitative phenomenology research design to gain insight into participating students’ experiences using mobile-based social media technologies as a phenomenon. A total of 21 undergraduate students who were in their second to fourth year of study were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that the use of mobile-based social media in information-seeking is affected by the participants’ cognitive and affective structures which shaped their attitudes towards information sources and the way in which they use them. In addition, certain personal and environmental barriers seem to affect the participants’ information-seeking activities. In order to get access to information that would satisfy their information needs, the participants relied on online social media groups. The use of Meyer’s information behaviour model enabled an understanding of the reasons why students use mobile technologies and social media when seeking academic information and the means they employ to deal with their academic task-related information needs when they lack the necessary knowledge and skills to seek information in the library. This understanding enabled the researcher to graphically illustrate the participating students’ information-seeking behaviour while using mobile technologies and social media. Some recommendations could also be made to improve the library’s services. These include the aggressive promotion of library services and information resources to users with frequently conducted user surveys. Such surveys would support the library management in keeping abreast with their users’ information needs and would guide the development of a reliable environment that is conducive to users’ information-seeking activities which are focused on satisfying their information needs.

The use of social media for public institutions during the covid-19 pandemic is a necessity. In its use, social media brings both opportunities and challenges at the same time. Monitoring and evaluation of the use of social media for institutions finds the right time to be implemented immediately. This study aims to describe the types of content uploaded on the social media of the archive of UGM during the covid-19 pandemic and to describe the opportunities and challenges of using social media during the covid-19 pandemic at the archive of UGM. This research is a combination of qualitative and literature research. Primary data was collected through observations on uploading the Archive of UGM Instagram account (@arsipugm). Data collection on uploads in the last three months (September-November 2020). The data were verified with secondary data obtained through documentation in scientific publications and information channels related to the Archive of UGM. Data analysis was conducted by reducing the findings from the observation and documentation process. Data were presented in the form of tables, figures and narration. The results of this study indicate that during the covid-19 pandemic there were only two types of uploads from @arsipugm. They are archival material and reports. The percentage of uploads with archived material was 89.29% and report-type uploads was 10.71%. The use of social media for the archive of UGM during the covid-19 pandemic finds its opportunities, includes: socialization of archival services during the covid-19 pandemic; cooperation between unit and parent institutional accounts; and creative media uploads. Meanwhile, at the same time it has some challenges, includes: unoptimal use of Instagram's features; lack of interaction between the admin and the audience; the variant and volume of uploaded material has not been maximized; and monotone time lines.

In a pandemic situation, the students and teachers should adapt a new educational system required to implement online learning. The research aims to investigate the contribution of online platforms in enhancing students in learning of ESP. The study was conducted in SMK Nusa Dua Gerokgak. The study involved the students of SMK Nusa Dua Gerokgak. The observation and interview were done to collect the data. The results revealed that some online platforms use to help them in learning ESP. However, WhatsApp is the most frequent platform used since it is easier to use, and students are familiar with it.
