... While these studies offer depth and detailed insights into the underlying reasons behind consumer FW, they are also more time consuming and resource intensive. It should therefore be noted that these studies are often limited to smaller samples, which presents challenges for generalising these findings to a wider population [31]. Moreover, the research findings cannot be generalised universally due to the differences in culture which influence consumer behaviour [32]. ...
... Moreover, the research findings cannot be generalised universally due to the differences in culture which influence consumer behaviour [32]. Issues with validity and reliability are also a major criticism, as qualitative analysis is subjective in nature and open to interpretation [31]. Other studies have attempted to quantify the consumer-FW relationship through FW diaries. ...

The growing food waste phenomenon is recognised as a global issue with significant social, economic, and environmental burdens. This is a major concern in developed nations, where consumers are the largest contributors to the total volume of food waste production. As a leading cause of food and water insecurity, economic inequality, and environmental degradation, preventing and minimising consumer food waste is a key objective for policymakers and practitioners. Due to the complex consumer behaviours and practices associated with food waste generation, current understandings of why food waste occurs remain scattered. The purpose of this review is therefore to map the history and development of consumer food waste research over time, highlighting key themes and inconsistencies within the existing literature. Adopting a narrative approach, the literature is organised into three distinct themes to explore and identify the various internal and external determinants of consumer food waste. Our analysis highlights consumer food waste as a complex and multi-faceted challenge which cannot be attributed to one single variable, but rather a combination of behaviours determined by various societal, individual, and behavioural factors. While previous research tends to frame food waste as mainly a consumer issue, this review identifies several collective actors who are central to the problem. These findings call for a holistic view across the food supply chain to help identify opportunities for multi-stakeholder actions that prevent and reduce food waste at the consumer level. Drawing upon these new insights, we provide practical recommendations to assist policymakers, retailers, and consumers in mitigating consumer-related food waste.

A pimp in the prostitution business acts as an intermediary between clients and sex workers, whether male or female. The pimp's role includes handling conflicts and incentives related to the work. The objective of this study is to understand the psychological dynamics of the respondent's motivation for becoming a pimp and the impact of this profession on their life. This research is qualitative in nature, using a case study approach. The primary respondent in this study is a woman, with another individual included as a significant other. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The analysis reveals that the respondent's decision to become a pimp was influenced by a toxic relationship environment, traumatic events, financial difficulties, and family separation. Several negative psychological effects were experienced by the respondent, despite feeling secure financially. These negative impacts include a loss of empathy for others, self-harm, feelings of guilt about their actions, and succumbing to pressure. The psychological insights gained from this study have significant implications for mental health practitioners working with individuals involved in prostitution. Additionally, it contributes to the broader academic discourse on psychological adaptation in such complex social environments.
... The research method used is qualitative because it prioritizes using inductive logic, where categorization is born from the researcher's encounter with informants in the field or the data found (Creswell, 2023). Qualitative approaches emphasize the socially constructed nature of reality, the close relationship between the researcher and the subject under study, and the pressure of the situation that shapes the investigation (Denzin and Lincoln, 2018). This study used a census approach involving the entire population of women batik makers who received zakat empowerment assistance from Baznas Pusat. ...

Stress is an inherent and inextricable aspect of the live. When stress is excessive, it become chronic and has a negative impact on health. There is a need to disseminate knowledge about stress management techniques in order to reduce stress levels. In response to this demand, STRESmission, a psycho-educational tool was designed. It comprises task cards (grouped according to Aristel's triad of soma, psyche and polis), stress event cards (scored based on the Holmes and Rahe stress event scale), power and place cards, and a game board. We have tested if STRESmission (1) reduces perceived stress levels immediately and on a one-off basis, and whether it is an educational tool that helps in the acquisition of coping strategies, (2) can reduce stress levels in the long term, (3) is useful and attractive enough to encourage its use and therefore practical use of its benefits. A series of studies was conducted on groups of University students. We have found that STRESSmission decreased both subjective stress levels (psychological tests) and objective stress levels (lowering cortisol - CORT levels in the saliva). We concluded that the board game could be a stress-releasing and a learning tool to help cope with stressors.

Background: The primary objective of this investigation is to scrutinize the underlying motivations that may prompt those responsible for health to adopt models of collaborative consumption (CC) as business innovation. Furthermore, the study seeks to assess the congruence of determinants influencing the intention to utilize CC in healthcare, comparing perspectives between responsible for health and digital health consumers. Methods: Two studies based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) have been conducted. Study 1 uses a qualitative approach to analyze the determinants in use CC in healthcare of responsible for health of the Italian’s National Health Service. Study 2 uses a quantitative approach to analyze a sample of healthcare consumers, their salient beliefs, digital health literacy, and perceived own health status in determining the intention to use CC in healthcare. Results: Responsible for health recognize both the benefits, like improved efficiency, and the drawbacks, such as digital illiteracy and privacy concerns. Consumer data reveals that attitudes, social norms, perceived control, and digital literacy significantly influence the intention to use CC in healthcare, with education and age being moderating factors, whereas income is not impactful. Conclusion: The research ends with a discussion of these findings and their strategic implications for managing decision support systems in healthcare. The research highlights the need for innovation-based strategies in the health system, proposing a new socio-technical health domain to improve management through a participatory approach. The approach emphasizes business innovation, service quality, and cost-efficiency. Finally, the research addresses the gaps highlighted in CC in healthcare adoption, underscoring public-private collaboration and practical strategies for sustainable success.

Indonesia’s success in disaster management cannot be separated from the military’s role. The military plays a strategic role by mobilizing military resources on a massive scale through the military command system. However, the ability of Indonesian Army (TNI AD) soldiers and organizations, in general, is considered to have limited capabilities specifically for personnel handling natural disasters. This research aims to map the disaster management implemented by the Indonesian Army in disaster response through the Incident Management System. Data collection was conducted interactively through qualitative methods with in-depth interviews with the Indonesian Army’s Supply and Transportation Unit (Pusbekangad). The research results show that the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has competent resources in disaster response, involving the Indonesian Army’s Supply and Transportation Unit, which has primary skills and capabilities in logistics and transportation. These capabilities are facilitated by the Incident Management System, which is structured, systematic, and well-organized. The Incident Management System built by the Indonesian Army involves an incident commander, operation section, planning section, logistics section, finance/administration section, driver section, and the cooking team as a trained, capable, experienced, and ready-to-deploy ad-hoc organization in all operational areas. Indonesian Army uses the Incident Management System to respond to disasters such as earthquakes in Cianjur, South Kalimantan floods, and West Sulawesi floods. The Incident Management System serves
... The choice between qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods should not be based on researchers' personal preferences but rather on the nature of the study and the specific objectives it aims to achieve (Ary et al., 2006). Denzin and Lincoln (2000) define qualitative research as an interpretive and naturalistic approach, where researchers seek to understand or interpret phenomena based on the meanings people assign to them. This method generally involves smaller sample sizes, and researchers play an active role in data collection within natural settings, employing techniques such as description, explanation, and exploration (Suter, 2011). ...

Recently, Hijab has evolved from being as just a religious matter to become one of the most contentious subject in Western societies. The influence of these controversies brought to mind fear, terror, and coercion to Islam. Therefore, this study aims to explore the textual features of Hijab in political discourses by examining power and ideologies found in political speeches. Thus, the study employs a critical discourse analysis to examine the representation of Hijab surrounding political speeches by adopting the three-dimensional framework of Fairclough (1989, 2001). The researcher uses a qualitative method of research to examine and describe the current study. The linguistic investigation of this study reveals that politicians use different expressions; as to show personal beliefs, enmity, hatred to express their hidden messages and ideologies by using certain pronouns and vocabulary. It also concludes that politicians use various negative words, formal and informal language. As for the ideological analysis, the ideology is based on a secular views and limited to political attitudes.

The article discusses the exclusion and land grabbing carried out by mining companies against transmigrants in the Bahodopi mining area. Transmigrants are placed in areas controlled by PT. Inco through the mechanism of a contract of work since 1968. Overlapping land rights due to "mistaken" placement by the government resulted in conflicts between transmigrants and companies. PT. Inco tried to reclaim land controlled by transmigrants for the purpose of developing mining businesses by carrying out exclusionary practices, trying to acquire land and/or imposing conditions for farmers to give up their agricultural land. The practice of exclusion and land grabbing involves corporations and the state acting on behalf of the authority to use land facilitated by the state. This situation encourages dynamics in local communities to fight for land rights. The complexity of the problems in the nickel mining area has triggered awareness about the importance of dialogue, actions to protect land rights, the right to life, and access to opportunities as the Bahodopi area develops into an industrial area. Ethnographic data on exclusion and land grabbing practices as well as the dynamics of responses from communities are of primary concern with the assumption that these practices open room for transformative change. Local communities and transmigrants in Onepute Jaya village and Lele village still carry out agricultural activities even with limited land ownership with new commodities, maintaining and taking opportunities with business or services along with the growth of the increasingly complex Bahodopi mining area.

Crime is a daily phenomenon that emerges within society. From a structural-functional perspective, crime is considered disturbing and disruptive to the harmonious and stable order of life (social pathology). Drug-related crime is considered a serious crime, even bordering on extraordinary crime, as it has a significant negative impact on the wider community. The research aims to describe the handling of drug-related crimes by the police apparatus in South Sumatra. The research method used is qualitative research to examine incidents and various data variations that emerge in the field, employing a case study approach. The results and discussions show that the South Sumatra Provincial Police have been responsive in addressing drug-related issues in the province, ranging from prevention to rehabilitation, using 4 approaches: 1) Soft Power Coach, 2) Hard Power Coach, 3) Smart Power Coach, and 4) Corporation. The use of drugs can occur due to several factors, namely Poverty Factors, Environmental Factors, Criminal Involvement Factors, and Dependency Factors, highlighting the need for optimal supervision to prevent individuals who have recovered from relapsing into drug consumption. BNN South Sumatra collaborates with the PKK board to create a drug-free village with the aim of monitoring indications of drug use in the village community and forming a rehabilitation task force that is responsible for socializing the community not to use drugs again and stay away from drug use in the community.

Money has historically been used as a means of oppression, personal gain, and manipulation in politics, law, and justice, often contributing to societal discord. This article examines the concept of money and its societal perceptions through the lens of Prof. Dr. H. Kadirun Yahya, a prominent Indonesian Sufi and Mursyid of the Tariqah Naqshbandiyah, known for his success in managing a wide range of business ventures. Utilizing qualitative research methods, including interviews, observation, and documentation, the study investigates Yahya's numerous business initiatives aimed at fostering prosperity. These initiatives span diverse sectors such as agribusiness, including large-scale plantations (oil palm, apple, orange, and other crops), livestock farming (poultry, fish, ducks, goats, and cows), and enterprises in furniture manufacturing, workshops, drinking water factories, electronics, travel services, and more. The findings highlight Yahya's belief that money serves as a manifestation of divine light, a tool for attaining blessings and life's necessities. While money lacks inherent value, it remains essential for human existence. His view, consistent with other Sufi teachings, likes money to a mirror that reflects various possibilities based on its use. Grounded in Sufi principles that emphasize unity, illumination, and divine manifestation, Yahya argues that money should be employed to combat injustice, dishonesty, and exploitation. Its ultimate purpose is to uphold morality, promote social justice, equitable wealth distribution, and meet basic human needs. This research underscores the importance of further studies on integrating Sufi values into business management.

... From the philosophical perspective, Newbold (2002), quantitative tradition of content analysis is based on the positivist premise that "there is something like an objective reality (social facts) 'out there' that can be observed, measured, analyzed and thus understood". Denzin and Lincoln (1994), therefore, decontextualization of the textual material and selection of the outsider variables for analysis of social phenomena are the main issues in quantitative paradigm. In contrast, the qualitative epistemologies share the view that "reality" is a social and cultural creation, which can only be interpreted, approximated but not fully apprehended; thus, in qualitative tradition, the focus is on complexity, context, and detail. ...

There is debate around offering ethnic studies to high school students. Ethnic studies connects learning to students’ lives and analyzes the workings of racism to construct avenues toward equity. As the debate unfolds, it is critical to examine ethnic studies’ implications for youth development and the mechanisms that link it to student outcomes. One of ethnic studies’ long-stated goals is fostering students’ critical consciousness. Critical consciousness refers to critical reasoning around inequality (critical reflection), motivation to challenge inequality (critical motivation), and action taken to disrupt inequality (critical action). Little research has examined youth critical consciousness development within ethnic studies—a consciousness-raising system. Consequently, this longitudinal mixed-methods study examines students’ critical consciousness development in ethnic studies and sheds light on the contextual characteristics (i.e., critical school socialization) that foster critical consciousness. Analyses of 459 ninth-grade students’ (52% girls, 4% nonbinary; 1% Asian, 1% Black, 4% multiracial, 64% Latinx, 7% Native American, 15% described their own race, 7% skipped the question; Mage = 13.92) survey data, and focus group data with 19 students, revealed that ethnic studies-enrolled students grew more in their critical reflection than nonenrolled students. However, the quantitative data demonstrated decreasing critical motivation among all students, whereas the qualitative data suggested emergent critical motivation among ethnic studies-enrolled students. Furthermore, critical school socialization and teacher pedagogy were key to ethnic studies consciousness-raising. Altogether, this study highlights that ethnic studies fosters youth critical consciousness—a worthwhile outcome that should be considered in policy debates about ethnic studies.

This paper offers insights into the intersecting cultural layers of Indian women migrants in Aotearoa New Zealand. Utilising qualitative methodology, information is garnered from the work and life experiences of 30 Indian women resident in New Zealand. Their stories focus on their employment experiences and the challenge of finding work relevant to their qualifications and experience. Their footprints in a new land display an initial journey of trauma, hurt and identity struggles, followed in many instances by a deep and abiding sense of fulfilment for having the courage and grit to make their dreams and hopes a reality in New Zealand. The paper concludes with questions for reflection in the domain of multicultural counselling. Introduction: Natural interactions and understandable linguistic input are essential to build attractive conditions for acquiring the English language. Effective exposure to language, both oral and written, is essential to understanding and producing a language. However, developing listening comprehension skills can be challenging for students with ADHD due to difficulties in attention, behavior, and cognition, as well as the unique characteristics of the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context. Objectives: In this regard, this research aims to document effective instructional strategies to improve listening skills among high school students with ADHD. Methodology: To this end, an exploratory-deductive qualitative research design was applied through an extensive review of the literature. Data were collected from 60 academic sources and analyzed using a neurolinguistic and pedagogical approach using a constant comparative coding method. Results: The results suggest that, to guide students with ADHD in developing English listening competencies, language instructors must build a learning environment that includes simplified inputs and content, clear instructions, multisensory conditions, and student-centered instruction based on individual needs. Conclusions: Simple, linguistically rich, engaging, and multisensory environments facilitate learning for students with ADHD and can have an impact on their overall academic performance and language development. Study Area general: Education. Specific area of study: English as a Foreign Language. Type of study: Literature review.

Toxic Relationship becomes a trap in teenage dating relationships so that one party feels depressed and disadvantaged, even threatening life safety, especially for women. This study aims to explain the forms and motives for maintaining toxic relationships in dating relationships. A descriptive qualitative approach was used to explore the stories (cases) of five female students who were victims of toxic relationships in Palu City, Central Sulawesi. Data were obtained from in-depth interviews and brainstorming and reinforced from literature studies and news sources. Data were analyzed interpretatively. Data reliability was obtained from data triangulation. The results showed that the forms of toxic relationships in dating are physical violence, sexual harassment, verbal violence, intimidation, and possessiveness. The reasons why teenage girls maintain toxic relationships are because: (1) hope that the partner can change bad behavior to good; (2) the family has known each other; and (3) still have trust in the partner even though they have experienced physical violence, sexual violence and poor mental health. Getting out of a toxic relationship is not easy because the factors of hope for love, family, and trust are still the motives for maintaining a dating relationship.

Migration has become a prevalent strategy for vulnerable women and girls seeking better opportunities. This study examines the intricate relationship between migration, human trafficking, and modern slavery through a qualitative approach, utilising Dressel & MacDonald (2018) and George & Bennett's (2005) comparative textual analysis. By analysing Nawal El Sadaawi’s Woman at Point Zero (2015) and Patricia McCormick’s Sold (2006), the study highlights the vulnerabilities faced by characters Firdaus and Lakshmi, paralleling the experiences of Nigerian women pursuing 'Japa' (emigration). Crenshaw's (2013) Intersectionality theory provides the framework for understanding these complexities. The study indicates a significant risk of exploitation during migration, emphasising the struggles for agency amidst economic migration. The study calls for increased awareness, education, and policy interventions to address the risks of 'Japa,' human trafficking, and modern slavery, advocating for systemic changes to protect and empower women.

Urban memory involves the re-creation of a city’s physical, historical, social, and cultural elements in the memories of its inhabitants. However, urban transformation and commercial tourism-oriented projects may threaten the continuity of this memory. This study aims to provide an understanding of the relationship between urban memory and spatial experience while exploring how urban memory elements convey meanings to daily users and local inhabitants of a touristic settlement. The research focuses on Misi Village in Bursa, Turkey, a settlement with a 2000-year history known for its traditional architecture and natural beauty. Over the past two decades, local authorities have pursued extensive restoration projects to rebrand Misi Village as an Art and Tourism Village. The research employs the oral history method, focusing on two user groups: tourists and locals. The findings reveal that while tourists appreciate Misi Village for its natural beauty and recreational activities, they lack a deeper understanding of its history and the transformation of its identity. Instead, they mostly focus on commerce-oriented spatial experiences. In contrast, local residents emphasize daily life and traditional practices as they strive to sustain their livelihoods. By highlighting this difference, strategic planning is proposed to preserve Misi Village’s unique urban memory and promote sustainable, culturally centered tourism.

This research was conducted to reflect on teachers' performance and analyze the improvement of the quality of student learning in Indonesian language subjects. This research aims to explore the use of poetry learning strategies through CRT. The focus is on improving the quality of Indonesian language learning by implementing CRT in the students' environment. This research design uses a case study. Based on the implementation of Field Experience Practices, it was found that students looked sleepy and easily bored while learning the Indonesian language. This case was because Indonesian learning displays too much long text. So, the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach was implemented to solve the problem. Teaching using the CRT approach in the Indonesian language subject was carried out for eight weeks with two sessions of meetings in class X.1 of State Senior High School 1 Jember. The results showed that students actively participate in the learning process. Besides, learners' learning activities support the existence of learning products. The Indonesian language learning product produced is a musicalization video of poetry. The product also received feedback from the teacher in the form of appreciation, enthusiasm, and motivation for students. The findings of this research show that improving the quality of learning can be achieved by utilizing CRT as a context in the development of texts and their instruction. The meaningfulness of the learning can be seen from the students' deep understanding, enabling them to grasp the benefits and functions of studying texts in Indonesian. This study recommends implementing Culturally Responsive Teaching in Indonesian language learning subjects to increase student learning activities. One of the activities of Culturally Responsive Teaching is creating appropriate activities for students' cultural backgrounds in the form of musicalization poetry.

Fundamentally, music as a performance exhibits two characteristics: musical and extra-musical. These two elements are interconnected, complementary, and inseparable. Musical elements cannot be fully understood without considering the surrounding aspects, which lie outside the music itself. This dual nature also applies to church music. However, music used in and for worship is also a performance. This research examines the presence of these two characteristics in musical performances during Christian worship. Through Marco DeMarinis' semiotic theory, these two characteristics are manifested in the relationship between text, co-text, and context. The study's findings demonstrate that musical elements are no more important than extra-musical elements because in Christian worship, the Word is the ultimate objective of a liturgy: Without music, Christian worship can still occur, but without the Word, worship cannot be conducted.

Shame and guilt have followed victims of sexual assault for centuries. However, since the 70s, feminist work has started to change the view of who is responsible for assault. Within Dammen brister, the Finland-Swedish MeToo-campaign, the witnesses often mention shame: to explain an (in)action or the process of recovery, or as a common enemy for victims to overthrow. I argue that the witnesses utilize a specific feminist shame discourse, according to which it is the perpetrators and not the victims who should feel ashamed, while recognizing that shame is still a common result of sexual assault and may affect victims in various ways. A shift of the responsibility for sexual violence from the perpetrator to the victim is undoubtedly a victory for feminism. Still, it is worth to be cautious not to make shame a self-evident outcome of rape, for that could restrict the victim’s right to her own experience and become a necessity for her trustworthiness.

Transition economies, on the one hand, grapple with a communist legacy; on the other hand, they seek the optimal institutionalization for knowledge generation, dissemination, and commercialization to compete globally. However, the incumbent knowledge of certain aspects of their innovation systems remains very limited. In particular, intra-organizational cultural relics of the past and their inter-organizational and, consequently, systemic implications require research. This study examines how interaction barriers among universities, industry, and government, stemming from intra-organizational cultures, impact structural change in the innovation system of Azerbaijan. Utilizing the TH model, interviews with 59 participants revealed that a “Statist” TH model in Azerbaijan hinders organic cultural development within organizations, leading to interaction issues among TH actors. Moreover, problems in inter-organizational communication pave the way for a systemic failure that necessitates government intervention, strengthening the “Statist” TH model. The findings increase the context sensitivity of the TH framework by exploring an understudied context and provide valuable insights relevant to other transition economies facing similar institutional legacies.
