... The reliability used by Lincoln and Guba (1985) was ensured by credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. For credibility, it was tried to provide an environment of trust by preparing semi-structured interview questions based on the literature on nonverbal behavior, communication, and emotions, obtaining expert opinions, sharing the questions with the subjects, and warm-up conversations with the subjects to make them feel more comfortable in the interview (Creswell & Poth, 2016;Lincoln & Guba, 1985;Miles & Huberman, 1994;Patton, 2014). Subjects were selected through a purposive sampling method for transferability. ...

Reading nonverbal behavior is important for mental health professionals in terms of helping clients understand their feelings and intentions. The current study aims to develop a training program for nonverbal behavior and evaluate the program’s effectiveness in terms of counselors’ ability to understand and interpret nonverbal behavior. This study uses a mixed method (2 × 2 factorial design (experimental-control group/pre-test-post-test) and case study design). Subjects in the experimental study consisted of 46 counselors. Data was collected using a personal information form, Japanese and Caucasian Facial Expressions of Emotion (JACFEE), Momentary Emotion Recognition Test (MOERT), Nonverbal Behavior Knowledge Level Assessment Test (NOBEKLAT), and a semi-structured interview form. The results show a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the counselors in the experimental and control groups’ pre-test and post-test for JACFEE (F (1.44) = 18.804, p < .001, η2 = 0.30), MOERT (F (1.44) = 16,780, p < .001, η2 = 0.28) and NOBEKLAT (F (1.44) = 9.381, p < .01, η2 = 0.18). The follow-up test conducted two months later results did not differ from the post-test. As a result of the content analysis of the qualitative research, subjects’ opinions about NOBET were grouped under four themes: Characteristics of NOBET, its contribution to behavioral analysis, its contribution to self-awareness, and suggestions. The findings suggest that NOBET contributes to counselors’ ability to read nonverbal communication.

Introduction Digital technologies are widely integrated with teaching and learning, and examining these technological interventions in the classrooms has become an active research area. Existing reviews are often constrained, relying on qualitative methods like meta-analysis, scoping review, or systematic review, which tend to cover a limited number of studies. We conducted a bibliometric analysis of 1,128 articles published between 2014 and 2023 from the Web of Science database to provide a comprehensive overview of this field. Methods This study used Biblioshiny and VOSviewer tools to perform performance analysis and scientific mapping. In this study, performance analysis was performed, including descriptive statistics, publication trends, and identification of key actors. Furthermore, scientific mapping has also been done to visualize the prevalent structural aspects and hot research topics to observe the evolving dynamics over the past 10 years. Results The findings indicate a significant rise in publications over the past decade, with an annual growth of 21.5 per cent. We identified prolific authors, institutions, journals, countries, articles, and keywords that encapsulate the domain of digital technologies in the classrooms. The prospective challenges were also identified, including a need for a more technology-driven culture, limited teacher assistance, user interface design issues, proper training, and a technological divide. Discussion The findings could encourage the use of digital technologies in the classrooms and offer insights for policymakers to (re)allocate resources. Furthermore, this work is valuable for informing scholars and practitioners about the current state of research, helping them to identify and focus on trending topics when deciding which areas to explore.

... Moreover, for external reliability, the interview questions were developed based on expert approval and relevant literature, and the study findings were discussed within the context of the literature (Creswell, 2012;Patton, 2018). Similarly, practices such as storing data in an encrypted format on a computer (Lincoln & Guba, 1986), involving multiple researchers in the process (Miles & Huberman, 1994), coding by two coders from the professional team and having a third coder verify the coding (Creswell, 2012;Silverman & Marvasti, 2008;Patton, 2018), calculating intercoder reliability (Creswell, 2012), and utilizing computer-assisted programs for data analysis (Silverman, 2014;Silverman & Marvasti, 2008) were also implemented. ...
... The data analysis process followed several steps, including coding the data, creating categories and related themes, and describing and interpreting the findings (Creswell, 2012;Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2021). In this context, descriptive analysis and content analysis were conducted on the data (Gall et al., 2003;Miles & Huberman, 1994;Patton, 2018;Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2021). Initially, the recorded interviews with participants were listened to separately by both the first researcher and two coders from the qualitative research team. ...

Early childhood education (ECE) student teachers experience “reality shock” and a heavy burden of emotional regulation as they encounter many challenges in their internships, such as failing to cater for children's needs and lacking autonomy and efficacy. Effective emotion regulation can alleviate the impact of negative emotions and facilitate the construction of teacher identity. However, existing research has paid less attention to the emotion regulation of student teachers, especially ECE student teachers. Previous researchers mainly categorize in-service teachers’ emotion regulation strategies, whereas ECE student teachers’ emotion regulation strategies are more nuanced and in need of additional theoretical perspective to uncover their emotion regulation strategies. To address the research gap, we conducted a qualitative and follow-up research to examine the emotional experiences and emotion regulation strategies of 25 ECE student teachers in Guangzhou, China, during their internships. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and critical incidents forms. Informed by an integrative perspective, this study classified the emotion regulation strategies of ECE student teachers into four categories, including expressive regulation, cognitive change, behavioral adjustment, and sequential regulation. The study also analyzed the emotion regulation strategies at different stages of their internships, presenting the uniqueness of ECE student teachers’ emotional regulation in the Chinese cultural context. The Chinese social culture of “ren qing” and the power hierarchy in classrooms have led ECE student teachers to use suppressing strategy to regulate emotions. This study enriches our understanding of ECE student teachers’ emotions and provides implications for ECE teacher education.

Mots-clés : journal de bord; journal de bord réflexif; journal de bord utilisateur; recherche-action; expérience utilisateur Abstract: A lesser-known data collection tool, the diary, is subject to a number of apprehensions from researchers' point of view. Few publications provide both a comprehensive description of the different types of diaries and practical examples of their application. To address this gap, this article proposes a critical analysis of the use of two types of diaries with co-researchers during an action research project aimed at developing and implementing a Web application: 1) user diaries for testing the application and identifying necessary adjustment, and 2) reflexive diaries to make co-researchers reflect on and document their professional learning. Descriptive analyses were carried out on the contexts of use, the types of questions asked, the platform used, the response rate and the level of validity of the answers obtained. The discussion focuses on lessons learned and recommendations for optimal use of diaries.

Multicultural education fosters inclusivity, social cohesion, and mutual respect in diverse societies. Indonesia’s Merdeka Curriculum provides a flexible, student-centered framework, making it a strategic platform for integrating multicultural education. This study examines the implementation, challenges, and institutional support for multicultural education within the Merdeka Curriculum, focusing on how schools manage diversity in teaching and learning. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis in selected junior high schools using a qualitative case study approach. Findings reveal inconsistent implementation due to teacher preparedness gaps, resource limitations, and resistance to change. While some schools integrate multicultural content effectively through inclusive teaching practices and extracurricular programs, others struggle due to inadequate teacher training and a lack of culturally diverse materials. Institutional support is critical, as schools with structured policies and administrative backing demonstrate more effective multicultural education practices. This study underscores the need for targeted teacher training, the development of multicultural learning resources, and stronger institutional policies. Addressing these challenges will enhance cultural inclusivity, student engagement, and cross-cultural understanding in Indonesian education. Future research should explore long-term impacts and best practices for sustaining multicultural education within the evolving Merdeka Curriculum.

This study focuses on the analysis of the representation of feminism and social critique of women's roles depicted in the film "Yuni" (2021) using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The objective of this research is to identify and evaluate how issues of feminism and social critique regarding gender roles are communicated through symbolism and signs in the film. The research method used is Barthesian semiotic analysis, where the film is analyzed based on connotation, denotation, and mythology derived from visual and textual signs. The results of the study show that the film "Yuni" significantly features feminist themes, such as women's struggle for freedom and equality in a patriarchal society. Moreover, the film also provides a social critique of the norms that restrict women's roles. The conclusion of this research is that "Yuni" makes an important contribution to the discourse on feminism and social critique through its strong representation and deep narrative about women's lives in Indonesia.

With the introduction of new regulations, such as the European Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, transparency and traceability have become essential for demonstrating sustainable (supply chain) management practices. This study aims to explore the reluctance of fertilizer companies to disclose the origins of their materials, despite significant environmental, health, safety, and food quality implications of fertilizer use. To achieve this, we analysed sustainability reports to assess how these companies publicly account for their traceability and transparency efforts. Additionally, semi-structured expert interviews with high-level managers were conducted to uncover their perceptions, motivations, and their (limited) willingness to adopt comprehensive transparency and traceability systems. Our findings indicate that fertilizer companies primarily react to legislative requirements and political risks rather than proactively embracing traceability. Internal and external stakeholder perspectives diverge significantly: while some managers view existing quality systems as sufficient for ensuring product safety, others recognize traceability as a critical component of quality assurance. Few managers are willing to expand transparency unless mandated by regulation or stakeholder pressure. Perceived risks, such as potential liability and competitive disadvantage, further hinder progress toward full traceability. This study highlights the tension between regulatory demands and common business practices. For the industry, embracing traceability and transparency not only aligns with evolving regulatory requirements, but also enhances stakeholder trust and secure a competitive edge in increasingly sustainability-focused markets.

This study is aimed at developing an achievement test on quadrilaterals for seventh-grade students. The concept of the atom can be visualized in different ways in the mind due to its structure, which the naked eye cannot see. Augmented reality (AR) is one of the applications that can be used to teach such concepts. This study aimed to investigate students' views on the use of AR applications in teaching. Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the study. The study group consisted of 26 -graders in a public secondary school. AR application was organized to teach the structure of the atom. Within the scope of the study, an interview form consisting of four open-ended questions prepared by the researchers and submitted to expert opinion for content validity was used as a data collection tool. When the students' answers to the questions were examined, it was determined that they had positive opinions that AR application could be used in other courses and different subjects, that this application was more instructive because it concretized the subject, that it caused a better understanding of the subject it was used in, and that it increased participation in the lesson due to the possibilities of providing three-dimensional images. Suggestions were made based on the results.

Abstract Introduction Background and Context for the Study Study Description Research Outcomes and Discussion Accumulation of Damage to the Self: Coercive Control Trauma Diversity Limitations and Pathways for Future Research Conclusion Declaration of Conflicting Interests Funding ORCID iDs Appendix: Semi-Structured Participant Questionnaire References Biographies PDF/EPUB Cite article Share options Information, rights and permissions Metrics and citations Abstract Coercive control is a form of violence characterized by patterns of restrictive regulation, including through isolation, threats, psychological manipulation, economic abuse, technology-facilitated control, stalking, and physical and/or sexual violence. While literature has focused on the diverse forms of control imposed by perpetrators of this abuse, few studies have discussed the traumatic impact of coercive control on victim-survivors themselves. Using a theoretical thematic analysis, this study draws upon data from 15 qualitative questionnaires exploring the lived experiences of women as victim-survivors of coercive control in Australia. The first phase of analysis identified the diverse and interconnected methods of coercive control experienced by participants. The second phase found that victim-survivors who have been subjected to these patterns of harm can experience specific emotional trauma, shaped by processes of threat and restraint. This paper, therefore, proposes the concept of “coercive control trauma” to articulate ways in which coercive control in intimate relationships can contribute to the complex and often under-recognized psychological harm experienced by victim-survivors. The concept of coercive control trauma may provide victim-survivors with validation, insight, and an empowering sense of self-understanding during processes of recovery. It may also assist those who are supporting individuals recovering from coercive control by helping to further comprehend the experiences of victim-survivors, and to provide more appropriate forms of support.

This study aims to comprehensively investigate students' learning approach in identifying, predicting, and generalizing object and number configuration. A qualitative method was applied with as many as 28 participants from eighth-grade students in Bandung, Indonesia. Students’ ability to recognize, predict, and generalize the configuration of objects and numbers was assessed. At the same time, the approaches employed in the process were analyzed. The research showed that students used different approaches to figure out the pattern of objects and number configuration. These approaches were: descriptive, operational, visual-descriptive, visual-operational, and descriptive-visual-operational. Keywords were typically employed in the descriptive approach to predict unknown objects or numbers. However, the descriptive approach could not accurately predict specific patterns. Therefore, students employed other approaches, including operational, visual-descriptive, visual-operational, and descriptive-visual-operational approaches. Unfortunately, all approaches have proven inadequate for formulating generalizations (general rules) independently. These results showed that when teaching students how numbers and objects are configured, they should be encouraged to try different ways of seeing patterns, such as descriptive, visual, operational, or a combination of the three.
... The data analysis technique followed the stages proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994), which include: data reduction, which involves verifying students' work by discarding irrelevant data, clarifying, selecting, focusing, abstracting, and transforming raw field data into meaningful information; data presentation, which involves organizing and categorizing the reduced data into specific categories to facilitate conclusion drawing; and conclusion drawing/verification, which is the process of summarizing or verifying the data. ...

In learning mathematics, reflective thinking is often overlooked due to an excessive emphasis on final results, which causes students to struggle in evaluating and reconstructing their problem-solving processes. Reflective thinking skills are necessary for students to solve problems, including numeracy. This study adopts a qualitative approach, focusing on the problem-solving process of two seventh-grade students with a Dependent Field (DF) cognitive style and similar initial mathematical abilities. Data were collected through the Group Embedded Figures Test, in-depth interviews, and initial mathematical and reflective thinking ability tests. Based on the research results, DF students couldn't analyze arguments from various perspectives and see if there were deeper implications. This finding reflects the characteristics of DF, who don't perform the 'result in context' process, leading to a lack of ability to understand, interpret, and use numerical results in concrete/situational contexts. This also includes the ability to relate numbers to real-world situations, make appropriate interpretations, and take suitable actions based on those numerical results. The results of this study can serve as a foundation for designing differentiated instruction that emphasizes the development of reflective thinking skills, particularly in numeracy, through approaches involving technology, models, pedagogy, or other learning strategies.

Mobile technology, especially mobile learning, has long been an emerging and thriving field, and remains a main theme in mobile learning applications and systems. The extensive utilization of mobile learning has prompted the invention of many mobile applications. As a result of rapid advances in application technologies, various learning applications can combine different media or multi-modalities, such as video, audio, images, animated graphics, and text, to create multimedia learning resources that engage learners. However, the most favorable modalities in different learning applications that assist performance are worth exploring. This study employed mixed methods to investigate the current multi-modality situation in learning application utilization among 300 university students in China, where a rapid educational technology revolution is occurring. The findings revealed that the verbal modality (M = 3.99, S*D = 0.79) and the writing modality (M = 3.99, S*D = 0.75) in the learning applications were less enjoyable and less effective at enhancing learning performance. In exam-based or function-based apps, all five modalities in this research were considered important, especially the visual and aural modes. The results of this study also revealed that a majority of university learners were satisfied with the multi-modalities in different types of applications, except for game-based apps, that assist their learning performance (56.7%, M = 3.87, S*D = 0.79), which contrasts with the results of several related studies. Overall, college users perceived that multi-modalities were effective in helping them to complete tasks, and all modalities in current applications satisfied most of the users’ needs to assist their learning performance. In the end, the findings indicated a positive and strong linear relationship [r = 0.766, p < 0.05] between multi-modalities and assisted learning performance with the help of more capable (knowledgeable) others with the use of mobile applications.
... We need to acknowledge that our partial reliance on YouTube interviews comes with the absence of a standardised interview protocol in the case of the given part of the sample. Consequently, part of our data collection is not aligned with the textbook-type replication logic of qualitative research (Miles & Huberman, 1994). However, we attempted to minimise the distortions stemming from the diversity in the interview processes by applying a rigorous method of data analysis (see below) and firmly believe that the detailed and contextualised insights captured from the publicly available recordings can compensate for this deficiency. ...

Analysing qualitative data obtained from experts and technology startups in Central and Eastern Europe, we evaluate Meyer and Peng's proposition about the fading distinctiveness of the CEE region. Assessing founders' entrepreneurial journeys, practices, and problems encountered, we find that rather than being CEE-specific, tech entrepreneurs' contextual constraints and coping strategies resemble those of emerging-economy entrepreneurs. Learning and adaptation throughout CEE founders' entrepreneurial journey involves convergence to the mainstream practices associated with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. The only undisputably CEE-specific features that we identified are related to certain personality traits and capability deficits of the founders. This suggests that the behavioural patterns that entrepreneurs developed in the institutional and cultural environment of the command economy have been transmitted to the subsequent generation: they continue to influence today's tech entrepreneurs' ambitions and abilities. Scholars' widely shared hypothesis that generational change in CEE would create discontinuity in entrepreneurial quality is rejected. ARTICLE HISTORY

This article explores how diverse actors establish and justify the value of waste in the early stages of circular innovation ecosystems around waste valorization. Using the “economies of worth” framework and through a longitudinal study of a French circular ecosystem around valorizing human excreta, we identify three phases of ecosystem emergence: ideation, experimentation, and reconfiguration. In these phases, the tensions stemming from mobilizing multiple orders of worth initially fostered collaboration but later led to conflicts that fragmented the ecosystem and led to new alignments. Our findings contribute to the understanding and management of tensions in circular innovation ecosystems and the social and moral dimensions of waste valorization. We also extend the economies of worth literature by highlighting the dynamics of conflicting orders of worth in ecosystem emergence.

Building on previous work studying research–practice partnerships, we use the framework of policy attributes to explore success and resilience in organizations tasked with quickly adapting to serving teachers and students in school environments vastly changed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study leveraged survey and interview data from 12 partnerships located in large urban school districts in the United States to understand how the policy environment of partnerships facilitates success. Although previous literature emphasized the importance of all policy attributes in successful partnership work, we found that only high specificity (having a shared clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and objectives) and the presence of robust authority (strong buy-in and sufficient resources) are most critical for organizational success.

Background Recent work has highlighted the challenges and benefits that certified peer specialists (CPSs) experience in the workforce. While their work can lead to personal fulfillment and financial independence for CPSs, and improved mental health and substance use recovery outcomes for their clients, little is known about CPS employment trajectories or the circumstances that impact their early-career workforce involvement over time. Methods This study used within- and across-case analyses of longitudinal data from qualitative interviews with 13 CPS that participated in a multistate, 3 year observational prospective cohort study of CPS graduates to explore employment changes and circumstances that led to these transitions. Qualitative results were organized according to whether cases were “employed as a CPS at follow-up” (N = 5) or “not employed as CPS at follow-up” (N = 8). Results Participants “employed as a CPS” at follow-up held various positions following certification, and they shared a sense of optimism about their future work. At the second interview, most remained in the same positions they held at baseline and described personal fulfillment and a supportive work environment as reasons for remaining. Participants who were “not employed as a CPS” at follow-up were also not employed as a CPS at their baseline interview but aspired to pursue future CPS work. At their second interview, many remained unemployed due to poor health and disability, or described past traumatic experiences, stress, and burnout related to being a CPS as reasons for leaving the CPS work force. All participants were challenged to find work as a CPS at various moments in their trajectories. Conclusion Results indicate that securing employment as a CPS was challenging for participants. Findings are discussed with implications for supporting CPS job seeking, well-being, and workforce retention.

Black women experience the highest mortality and morbidity resulting from intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization, yet there remains a dearth of culturally responsive interventions designed to meet their needs within the coordinated community response system. We employed the Theory of Help-Seeking Behavior to explicate the barriers that Black women experience when securing assistance from providers within the IPV service provision system, inclusive of the criminal legal, child protective service, shelter, healthcare, and mental healthcare systems. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with 30 people who self-identified as Black women who were help-seeking within the IPV service provision system at the time of data collection. Data was analyzed via the matrix system and organized based on pathway-specific domains. Findings explicate substantive gaps within the existing system of care. Fundamental to improving Black women’s IPV-related outcomes is improving the system to ensure it is designed to fully support them. Importantly, this is the first study to examine Black survivors’ experiences throughout the continuum of the IPV service provision system.

Many works in the literature have investigated social relationships and their role in business, thus it would seem that everything is already known about them. Surprisingly, however, as our two-stage research proved, if we consider social relationships to be a complex, multi-dimensional construct created by a set of different elements, we actually conclude that very little is known about how to operationalize and measure them comprehensively. Our paper focuses on the building blocks of social relationships and aims to verify the structural components assigned to them in extant knowledge, and then to offer their sharp operationalization and ensure their sound measurement. A scale for measuring social relationships was developed based on a two-stage, cumulative mixed process combining qualitative (in-depth individual semi-structured interviews) and quantitative research (via a survey). As a contribution, the paper offers valid measurement scales for six social relationship building blocks: emotional intensity, community of interest, shared identity, private contacts, repeatability of relations, and meetings in the professional community.
