Beauty Construction in the Sovereignty of Javanese Women

Abstract

This research examines how beauty was being constructed and thoroughly embodied in the manner, style, and communications of women, especially Javanese Women. Beauty itself is seen as a form of social control that affects how people see themselves and how they seen by others. The sovereignty of communication in Javanese women was perfectly implemented when certain symbols presented in any forms. In this study, the context of sovereignty means exclusive right to control and/or have full control of her, including all sorts of affairs within the country. The paradigm of this study is a critical paradigm; the research method is critical ethnography with qualitative approach and descriptive study. Javanese women in its social construction will be considered as someone whom Alert, Remembered, Efficient, and Sensitive. Those symbols could never be separated whatever they do. Therefore the construction was built through the definition of a reality that is implied in the social interaction and expressed socially through communication.
