Risk management is done in many organizations for many reasons, both within and outside of projects. The book entitled A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) gives six processes for risk management: risk management planning, risk identification, qualitative risk management, quantitative risk management, risk response planning, and risk monitoring and control. This chapter discusses the different activities that are all part of these processes. The initial risk analysis will be used to help the team and the stakeholders to understand the risks and to allow the team to build the most workable preemptive responses to them. For each risk, then, we first need to determine the impact both in terms of cost and of time. Next, we need to quantify the probability that each risk might occur. risk management; telecommunications
