Experiments show that our proposed approaches can generate appropriate emotion and yield significant improvements over the baseline methods in emotional conversation.

Emotional Intelligence as Evaluative Activity: Theory, Findings, and Future Directions

The question of whether ability-related emotional intelligence (ability EI) predicts important life outcomes has attracted considerably more attention than the question of what ability EI consists of. In the present paper, the authors draw from the attitude and emotion literatures to suggest that the evaluation dimension of meaning is likely key in understanding how ability EI operates. Measures ... [Show full abstract] of ability EI predict the extent to which individuals can accurately evaluate words and measures of the latter type act as emotional intelligence measures. Extending this analysis, the paper reviews recent sources of data linking ability EI to attitudinal processes, such as those involved in attitude–behavior relationships and affective bipolarity. Individuals with high EI appear to experience their affect in more bipolar terms and they display evidence of greater decisiveness in their evaluations. Pursuing links of the present type will allow researchers to generate new predictions concerning the ability EI construct.

Applications of multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to air operations mission planning

Air operations mission planning is a complex task, growing ever more complex as the number, variety, and interactivity of air assets increases. Mission planners are responsible for generating as close to optimal taskings of air assets to missions under severe time constraints. This function can be aided by decision-support tools to help ease the search process through automation. This paper ... [Show full abstract] presents several applications of multi-objective evolutionary algorithms for discovering suitable plans in the air operations domain, including dynamic targeting for air strike assets, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) asset mission planning, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) planning. Lessons learned from these studies are described and an exploration of potential future directions is discussed.

Is it detrimental to praise a child for their intelligence or abilities? As a society we tend to praise and show admiration of our young for their intelligence or abilities. The problem with praising a child is not the act, but how it’s conveyed and how it’s delineated to the individual child. Praising a child for their intelligence and not for their effort or hard work will harm them emotionally ... [Show full abstract] in the future. By praising a child for their ability you are opening them up to not only potential failure, but disappointment should they not be as successful the next time around. Praising a child for their ability draws attention to them and makes a big deal of the accomplishment, regardless of whether it is from effort or intelligence and ability.

Kan emotionele intelligentie worden getraind? [Is emotional intelligence trainable?]

In this paper we describe a study on emotional intelligence. The hypothesis is that emotional intelligence can be trained. 106 managers took part in a 6 day training in emotional intelligence (TrEIn), spread over a period of 6 months. The Bar-On EQ-I, a well-known and validated measure for emotional capabilities, was used to assess the effect of the training. As a comparison group, 59 managers ... [Show full abstract] were assessed without being trained. The average score in the training group was 100.03 before the training and 111.85 at the follow-up (M = 100, SD = 15). The comparison group scored 108.27 before and 111.75 at the follow-up. The hypothesis was supported by the study. Your EQ can increase if you take part in the TrEIn. The Bar-On EQ-I is a self-report measure, in the future we can learn more about the trainability of Emotional Intelligence if we use a 360-degrees-measure.
