[Show full abstract] the student's perception of blackboard teaching and power point presentation in learning Biochemistry among MBBS students. Material and methods: A total of 120 first year MBBS students participated in this study. The study was conducted by asking the students to fill a questionnaire regarding their perception about the blackboard teaching and power point presentation in learning Biochemistry. Results: In this study, the students preferred blackboard (70%) as the teaching method compared to power point presentation. In blackboard teaching there is better perception of the subject (77%) and there was more involvement in teaching (80%) compared to power point teaching. Whereas power point was preferred by the students to make notes (62%) compared to blackboard teaching. Conclusion: Blackboard still remains the preferred teaching aid to learn Biochemistry among the MBBS students. Power point presentation is helpful for the students to take down notes.

Attitude of medical students about different teaching aids used in lectures in anatomy

[Show full abstract] Medical College, Kolkata. One hundred fouty students of academic session 2010-2011 were exposed to different aids of teaching, viz. Black Board (BB), Over Head Projector (OHP), power point presentation (PP) for ten months. They were taught Anatomy by different teachers who used all the three AV aids in their lectures. Then they were asked to respond to a questionnaire regarding these three AV aids of teaching. The students preferred Black Board teaching over OHP and result was statistically significant (p value < 0.0001). BB teaching was also preferred over PP presentations (p < 0.02). But in comparison to OHP, students preferred PP though the difference is not statistically significant (p < 0.10). Most of the students still prefer Black Board teaching to other modern AV aids like OHP and PP. For better understanding of a subject by students and improvement of their performance, a teacher should match the lectures with preferred AV aids and use the AV aids prudently.

[Show full abstract] as opposed to blackboard and chalk in medical students attending pharmacology classes.Methods: This was a cross sectional study done in the second year MBBS students attending pharmacology classes in the Department of Pharmacology at Government Medical College, Thrissur in the year 2017. Students were given lectures on two similar topics, one using PowerPoint presentation and the other using blackboard and chalk by the same teacher. The students were given a post-test after each lecture and marks were analysed using Independent student’s t test. A feedback was also taken from the students regarding the two lecture delivery methods and the data is expressed in percentages.Results: This study was done in 149 medical students who attended pharmacology classes. The students scored significantly higher marks in the post-test when the lecture was taken using black board and chalk (p <0.001). 58% of the students preferred lecture delivery using PowerPoint compared to 38% preferring black board and chalk. 4% of the students considered both methods equally good.Conclusions: Lecture delivery using black board and chalk was found to be more efficacious than power point presentation when the marks of the post-tests were compared. However, majority of the students preferred lecture delivery using power point to blackboard and chalk.
