Jackson, D.D., Cheng, A. and Liu, C.C., 1983. Tectonic motions and systematic errors in leveling and trilateration data for California. In: P. Vyskočil, A.M. Wassef and R. Green (Editors), Recent Crustal Movements, 1982. Tectonophysics, 97: 73–83. We examined leveling and trilateration data for southern California. We used mathematical models that allow for both tectonic motion and systematic

Trilateration data show steadily accumulating shear strain, but previously reported episodic dilatations probably result from systematic errors.
