Artykuł odnosi się do praktyki działania jednego z liderów rynku TSL(transport, spedycja, logistyka) w Polsce i ma na celu identyfikację kluczowych aspektów władzy menedżera logistyki kontraktowej w łańcuchu dostaw. Przez władzę rozumie się możliwości wpływu menedżera na kształt i konfigurację łańcucha oraz przedmioty przepływów i ich cele. Odpowiednie umiejscowienie menedżera logistyki kontraktowej w strukturze organizacyjnej, przypisanie mu właściwych zadań, delegacji do decydowania i zasobów do dyspozycji, to kluczowe atrybuty władzy analizowanego menedżera. Zidentyfikowano typy powiązań w jakich uczestniczy badany operator, przedstawiono modelowy proces obsługi klienta z udziałem analizowanego menedżera. Zidentyfikowano pożądany profil kompetencyjny menedżera logistyki kontraktowej i wskazano na kluczowe obszary doskonalenia jego pozycji w łańcuchu dostaw.

Za ich stosowaniem przemawia potrzeba stabilnego, efektywnego i przejrzystego funkcjonowania podmiotów trzeciego sektora. W środowisku organizacji non profit temat ten wywołuje duże kontrowersje, wątpliwości dotyczą przede wszystkim negatywnych skutków bezrefleksyjnego przenoszenia praktyk biznesowych na grunt podmiotów nienastawionych na zysk. Książka wychodzi naprzeciw potrzebie pogłębienia wiedzy na temat specyfiki sektora organizacji non profit w obszarze zarówno teorii, jak i praktycznych rozwiązań zarządczych. Dokonana analiza pozwoliła na zaproponowanie dopasowanych narzędzi kształtowania relacji z interesariuszami, ale również na wyjaśnienie szeregu zjawisk oraz obalenie niektórych mitów funkcjonujących w tym obszarze. Jednym z nieporozumień jest pogląd o substytucyjnym charakterze działań dobroczynnych, który każe postrzegać propozycje organizacji non profit jako konkurujące ze sobą w świadomości potencjalnych darczyńców indywidualnych i przedsiębiorstw. Uważne przyjrzenie się koncepcjom teoretycznym oraz analiza wyników badań z ostatnich lat prowadzą do konkluzji wręcz przeciwnej. Akty dobroczynności mają charakter komplementarny, jedno działanie zachęca do następnego, a prosta forma wsparcia jest zapowiedzią kolejnych, bardziej zaawansowanych. Zjawisko to ma istotne znaczenie dla organizacji trzeciego sektora, ujawnia jego ogromny potencjał oraz wytycza kierunek rozwoju, jakim jest nawiązywanie długoterminowych relacji oraz współpraca, realizowana na różnych poziomach i w wielu kontekstach.

This study explored the relationships between potential organizational power, viewed as structural position, and the use of power through behavioral tactics. Results indicate that structural position, measured as an individual's network centrality and level in the organizational hierarchy, and behavior-use of assertiveness, ingratiation, exchange, upward appeal, rationality, and coalition formation-relate independently and significantly to others' perceptions of the individual's power. In addition, structure partially mediated the relationship between behavior and power, and the behavioral strategies partially mediated the structure-power relationship. Significant interaction effects were also found.

Political uses of power demand explicit consideration of ethical restraints, in part because current management theory focuses on the value of outcomes rather than on the value of the means chosen. We have developed a normative model of ethical analysis that can be helpful in determining what these restraints are. The model integrates three kinds of ethical theories: utilitarianism, theories of moral rights, and theories of justice.

Nowadays, with organizations growing ever flatter and responsibility being pushed further down the ranks, admitting to a desire for power is a little out of fashion. But as the research in this 1976 classic HBR article shows, power is essential to good management. In fact, when it comes to managing big companies, the desire for power-that is, a manager's desire to have an impact, to be strong and influential-is more important than the need to get things done or the wish to be liked. The need to achieve,while important in small companies, actually becomes counterproductive in large, complex organizations, leading managers to try to do things themselves rather than spread tasks among many people. And managers who need to be liked tend to make exceptions for particular subordinates' needs, undermining morale. As their testimony reveals, other employees view those exceptions as unfair. But seeking power is not the same as seeking glory. People who want power only to further their own careers, rather than the goals of the organization, tend to have subordinates who are loyal to them but not to the company, making them less effective on the whole. And wanting power is not the same as throwing it around. Correlations between employee morale and sales figures show that individuals who manage by fiat are less effective than those whose style is more democratic. if the research paints a complex picture of the role that power plays in good management, it also demonstrates how great the potential is for improvement once managers become familiar with their own motives and styles. As the many examples show, top executives can learn to tell who the good managers are likely to be and to train existing ones to be more effective.

The history and background of the analysis of the basis of power is examined, beginning with its origins in the works of Kurt Lewin and his followers at the Research Center for Group Dynamics, particularly the early research by John R. P. French. The original French and Raven (1959) bases of power model posited six bases of power: reward, coercion, legitimate, expert, referent, and informational (or persuasion; Raven, 1965), Since then, as the result of considerable research, the model has gone through significant developments. A more comprehensive model is presented here that reviews the following: various motivations of the influencing agent; an assessment of available power bases in terms of potential effectiveness, time perspective, personal preferences, values and norms; consideration of other strategies such as manipulation; utilization of various preparatory and stage-setting devices to strengthen one's power resources; implementation of the power strategies; assessment of effectiveness of influence attempt and its positive and/or negative aftereffects; use of various ameliorative devices; and review, reconsideration, and another round of influence strategies. The overall model is examined in terms of its applicability to various settings including hospital infection control, patient compliance with physicians' recommendations, confrontations between political figures, children's influence on their peers, conflict resolution and negotiation, as well as supervisor/subordinate relationships.

The purpose of this research was to test the effect of positive versus negative frames on the riskiness of actual time allocation decisions. Two experiments were conducted, one involving an unattractive task and the other involving an attractive exercise. Framing effects were observed in both experiments, and these effects were generally in line with prospect theory (Kahneman & Tversky, 1979). However, the effects of framing were small to moderate in magnitude, and in some instances there was little or no effect. Implications of these results and directions for future research are discussed.

A simple theory of power relations is developed in an effort to resolve some of the ambiguities surrounding "power," "authority," "legitimacy," and power "structures," through bringing them together in a coherent scheme. After defining a reciprocal power-dependence relation, attention is focused upon properties of balance and "balancing operations" in such relations. The theory dictates exactly four generic types of balancing process, and discussion of these leads directly into processes of group formation, including the emergence of group norms, role structure and status hierarchy, all presented as the outcome of balancing tendencies in power relations. Within the framework of this theory, authority appears quite naturally to be legitimized power, vested in roles, and "legitimation" is seen as a special case of the coalition process through which norms and role-prescriptions are formed. Finally, through treating both persons and groups as actors in a power-network (two or more connected power-dependence relations) the door is opened for meaningful analysis of complex power structures. Brief reference is made to findings from two experiments pertaining to hypotheses advanced in this theory.
