L. inopinata from a very similar L. lucorum until the
publications of Doczkal (1998, 2000).

Prokhorov, A. V. & Popov, G. V. The rst record of Leucozona inopinata (Diptera: Syrphidae) from European Russia. Summary. The
hovery Leucozona inopinata Doczkal, 2000 is collected in Moscow Region and recorded from European Russia for the rst time. Distribution
of the species is considered, the likely confusion of L. inopinata і L. lucorum (Linnaeus, 1758) in papers published before 2000 year is noted.
Key words: Diptera, Syrphidae, Leucozona inopinata, Moskow Region, European Russia.

The published data on species of Leucozona (s. str.)
Schiner, 1860 include two species for European Russia: a
common L. lucorum (Linnaeus, 1758) and L. nigripila Mik,
1888 (Speight, 2015). L. nigripila occurs in the Greater
Caucasus in limits of Russia and Azerbaijan (Doczkal,
2000). The third species, L. inopinata Doczkal, 2000, was
discovered in Leningrad Region of the European Russia
for the rst time based on the meetings of the specimens
that have been photographed under natural conditions
(Davydov, 2009 a, 2009 b, 2010). In 2015–2016 some
specimens of this species (Fig. 1) were collected in Moscow
Region of the European Russia for the rst time by one of
the authors (A. P.). Only one species of Leucozona (s. str.)
was by far mentioned for the Moscow Region, L. lucorum
