The Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Office of Industry Liaison at The University of Adelaide have established innovative graduate programs which provide the mechanism to assist graduates to set up and run their own businesses. [Show full abstract] the Graduate Industry Linked Entrepreneurial Scheme (GILES) where the idea is generated by industry and there is a need to develop the idea further, and the Graduate Business Support Scheme (GBSS) for existing postgraduate students who wish to set up a business but are enrolled in or completing PhD studies. The companies receive scholarship support, business and academic mentors, business education, accommodation and secretarial assistance for the first year of the program. The education received in in the form of a Graduate Diploma in Business Enterprise which is currently under review and new curriculum and course delivery methods are being investigated and developed.
