In this short paper, numerical evaluations of the Pyralidae species in South East Turkey are
given. Totally 169 pyralid species in South East Turkey are listed. Some images of pyralids
taken during field observations are presented. List of the 345 publications on the Pyralidae
of Turkey are listed with comments.
Key words: Pyralidae, Lepidoptera, South East Turkey, fauna, list.
Within the short-term Project on the Lepidoptera diversity of the 15. Region1 of the
Ministery of Forest and Water Affairs (MoFWA), the present paper deals with the Pyralidae
of the South East Turkey, on the following subjects: (1) Numerical evaluations of the
Pyralidae species in South East Turkey. (2) List of the Pyralidae species. (3) Some images of
the species, taken during field observations. (4) List of the publications on the Pyralidae of
Turkey.
This region comprises following 7 provinces in question: Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır,
Mardin, Batman, Siirt, Şırnak, and Hakkari. The species of the Pyralidae family hasnot been
studied in this properly. Therefore, the present specific number is very low, i.e., 169. This is
less than half of the expected number for the region. The distribution of the numerical
information on the Pyralidae fauna according to the provinces are given in Table 1.
Table 1 – Numerical information of the pyralid species according to the provinces in South East Turkey, based
upon the publication (Koçak & Kemal, 2009) and present knowledge of info-system of the Cesa.2

The authors (Koçak & Kemal, 2009) reported 88 Pyralid species (Table 1). The
numbers on the Pyralidae species mentioned by Akın et al. (2015) are incorrect.
The common list of the species is given below, togenther with their original

The limits of species ranges for 11 rare pyraloids: Parapoynx affinialis (Guenée, 1854), Tegostoma comparalis (Hübner, 1796), Aeschremon disparalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1851), Anthophilopsis moeschleri (Christoph, 1862), Epascestria pustulalis (Hübner, [1823]), Achyra ustrinalis (Christoph, 1877), Anania ochrofascialis (Christoph, 1882), Ostrinia peregrinalis (Eversmann, 1852), Ematheudes punctella (Treitschke, 1833), Ephestia parasitella Staudinger, 1859, Eurhodope rosella (Scopoli, 1763) and 3 noctuid moths species: Phidrimana amurensis (Staudinger, 1892), Callistege fortalitium (Tauscher, 1809), Simplicia rectalis (Eversmann, 1842) are defined basing on the material collected in Rostov Region (Russia) during 2010–2013 by the light-trapping.
