The line 15 of Theocritus' Hylas raises interpretation problems, most notably due to the fact that is used absolutely. The verb has been amended in various ways; alternatively based on sch., Theoc, 13, 15b, it has been interpreted as being transitive, with as the implied object thereof. The text handed down by tradition is, however, most likely original. In this passage, takes on the meaning of ... [Show full abstract] move/go forward', a usage of the term which, while entirely ignored by lexica, can be found in numerous sources. In his comment, the scholiast himself seems to use in the same intransitive form.
