USE OF ELECTRONIC TEACHING AND METHODICAL COMPLEX BASED ON MOODLE EDUCATIONAL PLATFORM FOR PROFESSION-ORIENTED ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING OF RUSSIAN COSMONAUTS

Abstract

The article considers the issue of profession-oriented foreign (English) language training of Russian cosmonauts at all stages of preparation for their space flight at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre with the usage of project-based learning. It also describes the results of authors' development in the creation of electronic teaching and methodical complex based on Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (Moodle), which is designed to form the profession-oriented English language communicative competence of Russian cosmonauts.

Itbecomes possibletof ormtheprofessionorientedEnglishlanguagecommunicativecompetenceof Russian
cosmonautsprovidedthattheinteractivemethods,whichtake intoaccountt hecognitive,profess ionalintentions
ofatrainee,andfocus onhisreallifeas wellastheavailableexperience,areintroducedintothelanguage
teachingprocess.I nthis regard, projectbasedlearning isusedas oneofsuchmet hodsattheEnglis hlanguage
lessonsin GagarinCos monautTrainingCenter(GCTC)locatedinRussia. Itf acilitates thecreationofalanguage
environment,whichgeneratesaneedtospeakthef oreignlanguageandallowscosm onautstoacquireknowledge
independently whilesolvingthereallifeproblems withtheuseofnotonlyt heirEnglishlanguageskills, but
throughtheintegrationofinformationfromvariousspecif ict echnicalsubject areasaswell.Consideringthe
processoft eachingEnglishinGCTCwithintheframeworkofprofess ionorientedapproach, wepayspecial
attentiontothedevelopmentof professionorientedprojec ts.
Teachingaids thatareusedduringimplementationofprojectact ivities includevariousdidactic materialss pecially
designedonthebasisoforiginalprofessionorientedtexts (texts ,task s,v ideos,tables, etc.). Thesematerialsare
placedintheelectronict eachingandmethodicalcomplex: EnglishforSpaceE xplorers:PreparingCosmonauts
forSpaceFlight.
Nowadays ,amidt heelectroniccommunicat iondevelopmentinthesociet y,elearningandITtechnologiesare
extensively usedtoprovidelearnerswithnecessary teachingandlearningaidsthroughvariouselectronicmedia.
Inordertoprovidecosmonautswithanelec tronicversionofeducationalmaterialselaboratedbytheauthorsand
toasses sthepotentialf orusecomputertechnologiesduringtheEnglishlanguagelessonsi nGCTC,wechoose
theMoodle(ModularObjectOrientedDynamicLearningEnvironment)automatedlearningmanagementsys tem
basedoncomputerandinternettechnologies,whichhasawiderangeofteachingandtechnical capabilities.
Useoftheelect ronicteachingandmethodicalcomplex elaboratedbytheauthorsonthebasisof Moodle
educationalplatformopensupnewopportunit iesforinteractiv elearningofaforeignlanguageandallowsus to

The study of foreign languages is an integral part of the educational process in higher educational institutions of humanitarian orientation. It is necessary to use a variety of additional materials and programs for the full development of linguistic, grammatical and phonetic features for achieving an optimal level of English language proficiency. This article discusses the possibility of practical use of students' channel in a multifunctional Television Studio for teaching major interdisciplinary topics studied in the context of the development of the English language and English culture. Attracting students to create their television product with Internet communication is an excellent incentive to increase interest in the learning process. During the experiment conducted at the Institute of Foreign Languages (RUDN University), the potential of this program was revealed in two groups of the first and second courses. The best practices were used as a teaching aid at the initial stage of learning a foreign language and broadcast on the air of the far Eastern channel PRIM 24. This program helped students with interest to discover new aspects of the language and do their homework with great enthusiasm, which led to an increase in overall productivity and cohesion in the group. Hence it follows that the use of YouTube video hosting in a Multifunctional Television Studio is an advanced way of teaching a foreign language for academic purposes from Russian Humanitarian Universities.
