Thedevelopmentofprofessionalcommunic ativeinteractionof Russiancosmonauts withtheirforeigncolleagues
–astronauts–at allstagesoftheirprofessionalactiv ities, frompreparationforthejointspacefl ightattraining
centers,loc atedinRussiaandabroad,onouttoparticipationint hemissionspecif icinternationalcrewoperations
onboardtheInternationalSpaceStation(ISS), aswellast heradiocommunicationwithforeignspecialis tsf rom
thegroundMissionControlCenters(MCC),locatedallovertheworld,havenecessitatedtheformation,
developmentandimprovementofprofessionorientedforeignlanguagecommunicativecompetenceof
cosmonautsf romRussianSpaceAgency (RSA).
TheEnglishlanguageistheoffic iallanguageofprofessionalcommunicationin theinternationalpracticeof
mannedspaceflights. Thelanguageprofi ciencydirect lyaffec tst heabilityof cosmonautsf romdifferentcultural
andlinguisticc ommunitiesto initiateunderstandingbetweeneac hotherandtoensuretherequireds afety of
spaceflights .
Itbecomes possibletof ormtheprofessionorientedEnglishlanguagecommunicativecompetenceof Russian
cosmonautsprovidedthattheinteractivemethods,whichtake intoaccountt hecognitive,profess ionalintentions
ofatrainee,andfocus onhisreallifeas wellastheavailableexperience,areintroducedintothelanguage
teachingprocess.I nthis regard, projectbasedlearning isusedas oneofsuchmet hodsattheEnglis hlanguage
lessonsin GagarinCos monautTrainingCenter(GCTC)locatedinRussia. Itf acilitates thecreationofalanguage
environment,whichgeneratesaneedtospeakthef oreignlanguageandallowscosm onautstoacquireknowledge
independently whilesolvingthereallifeproblems withtheuseofnotonlyt heirEnglishlanguageskills, but
throughtheintegrationofinformationfromvariousspecif ict echnicalsubject areasaswell.Consideringthe
processoft eachingEnglishinGCTCwithintheframeworkofprofess ionorientedapproach, wepayspecial
attentiontothedevelopmentof professionorientedprojec ts.
Teachingaids thatareusedduringimplementationofprojectact ivities includevariousdidactic materialss pecially
designedonthebasisoforiginalprofessionorientedtexts (texts ,task s,v ideos,tables, etc.). Thesematerialsare
placedintheelectronict eachingandmethodicalcomplex: EnglishforSpaceE xplorers:PreparingCosmonauts
forSpaceFlight.
Nowadays ,amidt heelectroniccommunicat iondevelopmentinthesociet y,elearningandITtechnologiesare
extensively usedtoprovidelearnerswithnecessary teachingandlearningaidsthroughvariouselectronicmedia.
Inordertoprovidecosmonautswithanelec tronicversionofeducationalmaterialselaboratedbytheauthorsand
toasses sthepotentialf orusecomputertechnologiesduringtheEnglishlanguagelessonsi nGCTC,wechoose
theMoodle(ModularObjectOrientedDynamicLearningEnvironment)automatedlearningmanagementsys tem
basedoncomputerandinternettechnologies,whichhasawiderangeofteachingandtechnical capabilities.
Useoftheelect ronicteachingandmethodicalcomplex elaboratedbytheauthorsonthebasisof Moodle
educationalplatformopensupnewopportunit iesforinteractiv elearningofaforeignlanguageandallowsus to
enhancethequalityofprofess ionorientedandcommunicativeEnglis hlanguagetrainingof Russiancos monauts
inGCTC.
