The presentation aims to discuss a theoretical and practical integrated ecosystemic approach to deal with the problems of difficult settlement or solution in the world, encompassing politics, economics, culture, education, environment, health, ethics and overall quality of life, considering the role of the four dimensions of being in the world (intimate, interactive, social and biophysical), as new paradigms of growth, power, wealth, work and freedom emerge in the socio-cultural learning niches and are progressively embedded into the cultural, educational, social, political and economical institutions.

To build a world where people are self-resilient, live dignified lives, ensure healthy and prosperous future and co-existence for all living beings in harmony, justice and peace requires more than one actor, that actors be aware of each other’s actions, and that they dynamically adjust their own behaviour (and possibly their own goals), taking the behaviour of others into acccont. New paradigms of power, growth, work, freedom and wealth should be associated with new ways of being-in-the-world, in the benefit of environment, health, culture, education and citizenship. Quality of life is a by-product of a complex and dynamic configurations, intertwining four dimensions of being-in-the-world: intimate, interactive, social and biophysical. In an ecosystemic model of culture, each dimension supports the other ones, as donors and recipients (principles of singularity and complementarity). For planning and evaluation of public policies, research and teaching programmes, problems should be defined and dealt with deep inside the “boiling pot”, where they emerge, not in view of the segmented “bubbles” of the surface (consequences, taken for granted issues). In order to develop the connections and seal the ruptures between the different dimensions of being-in-the-world, in view of their mutual support and dynamic equilibrium, an integrated ecosystemic approach to education, culture, environment, health, politics, economics and quality of life is posited to define and deal with the problems of difficult settlement or solution in the contemporary world.

Discusses humans and their horizons, including their cognitive-affective environments and social and natural environments. It is argued that the crisis of present times is linked to people's forms of dealing with life horizons: Individuals derive satisfaction for their needs according to a project of life. This project of life links needs to behaviors. Human needs, although universal, are expressed differently depending on the project of life of individuals, groups, and communities. The role of education is to develop an inner compass within people and an awareness of how differential distribution of and access to positions, rewards, and resources can be used and transformed for the benefit of all. It is suggested that cooperative projects must be developed within all groups and at national and international levels. People's horizons are thus linked to their developmental process and to its biosocial demands.

For the diagnosis and prognosis of the problems of quality of life, a multidisciplinary ecosystemic approach encompasses four dimensions of being-in-the-world, as donors and recipients: intimate, interactive, social and biophysical. Social, cultural and environmental vulnerabilities are understood and dealt with, in different circumstances of space and time, as the conjugated effect of all dimensions of being-in-the-world, as they induce the events (deficits and assets), cope with consequences (desired or undesired) and contribute for change. Instead of fragmented and reduced representations of reality, diagnosis and prognosis of cultural, educational, environmental and health problems considers the connections (assets) and ruptures (deficits) between the different dimensions, providing a planning model to develop and evaluate research, teaching programmes, public policies and field projects. The methodology is participatory, experiential and reflexive; heuristic-hermeneutic processes unveil cultural and epistemic paradigms that orient subject-object relationships; giving people the opportunity to reflect on their own realities, engage in new experiences and find new ways to live better in a better world. The proposal is a creative model for thought and practice, providing many opportunities for discussion, debate and development of holistic projects integrating different scientific domains (social sciences, psychology, education, philosophy, etc.). Heuristic-hermeutic experiences in the socio-cultural learning niches are described, a framework for diagnosis and prognosis of the events is applied for planning and evaluation of public policies, research and teaching programmes.
