Anti Cancer viability of a Poly Herbal Siddha Formulation on A549 Human Lung Carcinoma Cells

Authors:

Abstract

One of the strong myths about Siddha Medicine among the lay public and experts in the field of medicine is that chronic and often debilitating diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, Arthritis etc are always managed by Siddha drugs having high metals, minerals & Arsenical compounds. On the contrary, even a single herb exhibits high level of Anti-cancer viability. In our effort to prove the concept of phytomedicine as potent Anti-cancer agents, we have tested a Poly herbal formulation for its efficacy in Lung carcinoma through In-vitro cell line studies. The results are encouraging even at the lower concentration level of 6.25 μg/ml which exhibits 62.6% of viability. Review of Siddha literatures for the ingredients of our poly herbal formulation gives us a clear insight of its safety, efficacy & cost effectiveness. This is only a Preliminary study requiring more advanced studies to explore the wonderful Anti-cancer properties of the Siddha drug.
