Abstract

Much has been written and said about the process of political integration that has taken place among the member states of the European Union in the course of the last few decades, and particularly in the last fifteen years. Undeniably, this process has experienced — since its first timid inception in the 1970s with the introduction of European Political Cooperation (EPC) — a strong qualitative leap that has led Europe to add a defence dimension to its Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), and to create the so-called European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP).
