Este artículo sintetiza la investigación llevada a cabo como docente de Repre-
sentación y Proyecto de Arquitectura en la Universidad de la República, Uruguay,
cuyo objetivo primordial es generar los conocimientos necesarios para que el estu-
diante elabore los criterios que le permitan incorporar y aplicar los recursos gráficos
más eficaces y adecuados para expresar sus ideas e intenciones como proyectista
de arquitectura.
La imagen gráfica adquiere, en el proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje de la arqui-
tectura, una doble significación. Juega como mediadora entre docente y estudian-
te durante los procesos de proyectación en el Taller de Proyecto y constituye el
medio habitual para el conocimiento de la obra real en sustitución de la experien-
cia vivencial.
La eficacia de la comunicación en todas estas instancias, depende del buen ma-
nejo del recurso expresivo, de la validez de la imagen gráfica, cuya eficiencia re-
quiere la máxima coherencia entre las intenciones proyectuales del arquitecto y las
cualidades de la obra representada por la imagen.
La investigación parte de la hipótesis de que existen recursos expresivos para co-
municar las cualidades de la obra que trascienden los recursos basados exclusiva-
mente en los códigos consagrados por los sistemas tradicionales de representación.
Estos recursos expresivos no están pautados ni por la geometría euclidiana ni por
una normativa reconocida. Su manejo queda librado al sentido común y a la sen-
sibilidad del proyectista, no obstante sean decisivos para transmitir eficazmente
gran parte de las cualidades de una obra de arquitectura, especialmente aquellas
que escapan a sus rasgos geométricos.

Intentions in graphic representation of the architectural work
This reflection paper summarizes the research carried out as a teacher of Repre-
sentation and Architectural Design at the University of the Republic – Uruguay,
whose primary objective is to generate and transmit the knowledge to the student
develope the criteria that allow him to incorporate and apply the most effective
graphic resources to express his ideas and intentions as arcitectural designer.
The graphic image acquires in the teaching/learning of architecture a double sig-
nificance. First, plays as mediator between teacher an student during the process
of designing at workshop. Second, it is the usual means of knowledge of the actu-
al building to replace the live experience.
The effectiveness of communication in all these instances, depends largely on
the good management of the means of expression, of the validity of the graphic im-
age whose utility requires maximum consistency between the qualities of the work
image manifest and the design intentions of the architect.
The research is based on the assumption that there is expressive resources for
capturing and communicating the qualities of the object of architecture that tran-
scend resources based solely on codes enshrined in the traditional systems of rep-
resentation. These expressive resources are not ruled either by Euclidean geometry
or by reconized standards. Its handling is left to common sense and sensitivity of
the designer, however they are critical to effectivily convey much of the qualities of
a work of architecture, especially those are beyond teir geometric features.
