This research describes the electrical power generation in Malaysia by the measurement of wind velocity acting on the wind turbine technology. The blade and the drag area system are used to determine the powers of the wind that can be converted into electric power as well as the belt power transmission system. In this study both wind power and belt power transmission system has been considered. A set of blade and drag devices have been designed for the 1/3 scaled wind turbine at the Thermal Laboratory of Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL). Test has been carried out on the wind turbine with the different wind velocities of 5.89m/s, 6.08m/s and 7.02m/s. From the experiment, the wind power has been calculated as 132.19 W, 145.40 W and 223.80 W. The maximum wind power is considered in the present study.

In recent years, not only internationally but particularly in Europe, the installation of wind turbines at sea has gained ground, thus offering a solution to the problem of the lack of available sites on land to install wind farms, mainly due to the existence of ... [Show full abstract] natural barriers, and to exploit the richest wind resources found in the sea areas. Public acceptance is a key factor for successfully selecting an installation location for an offshore wind farm. This is an extremely complex issue as the local residents are unsurprisingly opposed to the development of offshore wind farms due to their lack of knowledge as far as the environmental benefits and the actual repercussions caused by the installation of an offshore wind farm in their region are concerned. Although offshore wind power is generally environmentally friendly, there are some slight influences on marine ecosystems and birdlife, the morphology of the seabed, water quality and human activities in the region. In the present paper the offshore areas which were deemed viable by the Ministry of Environment Energy and Climate Change as candidates for the location of the first offshore wind farms in Greece, are evaluated using the DPSIR (Driving Force -Pressure – State – Impact – Response) model. The multi-criteria decision analysis for the evaluation of the proposed sites is applied by using the software "MindDecider". The aforementioned software uses the grading performance of the proposed sites in the examined criteria and weighs the criteria according to their importance. The resulting ranking of the positions is different for the four different scenarios that are being examined. The course begins with a thorough discussion of the performance requirements for electric power generating equipment controls in wind turbine applications. Analyses and simulations of electric generators combined with their controls are incorporated into the class curriculum to provide students with a thorough understanding of the achievable generating system performance. The course capitalizes on the student's prior knowledge in drives, power electronics, and electric machines to develop highly skilled, advanced degree graduates that can readily become researchers or developers of next-generation wind power generation systems.

A shunt connected voltage source inverter (VSI) and a controllable dump load are used for regulation purposes. A battery bank is included in the dc side of the VSI so that it can absorb and inject active power ... [Show full abstract] thus increasing the efficiency and availability of the system. A control scheme for the VSI with independent control of active and reactive power allows the state of charge of the batteries to be kept in a safe range while maximizing the voltage regulating capabilities of the VSI. The characteristics of the wind turbine, self-excited generator, and the ratings of the VSI are considered in order to determine the load range for which voltage and frequency can be regulated for a given wind speed range. The feasibility of the proposed system is verified by simulations.

The first goal of the WT control system is to supply the load with constant real power under constant voltage as the wind speed varies between two levels and the second is to operate smoothly interchanging the load steps when the wind speed breaks through a speed level. There are two controllers: the inverter controller that keeps the load voltage constant and the pitch controller acting on the blade's angle. Using simulation techniques, the operation of the WT system and the efficiency of the proposed control strategy are demonstrated for a wide range of wind speeds.
