This chapter presents four different scenarios, each relating to the implementation of a new information management initiative. The four scenarios are: establishing a special library service, developing a business case of a digital library, implementing an electronic document and records management system and establishing an in-house archival repository. Each scenario is considered in the context of four contrasting organisational types. For each setting, the main issues are identified and appropriate strategies to gain organisational acceptance are suggested.

This 2-part article reports the results of a study of the information seeking behaviour of 40 EDRMS users in four different organisations using three different types of EDRMS which highlights barriers to information seeking and discusses how RMs can address their barriers.

Towards a learning organisation: The application of process-based knowledge maps to asset management...

[Show full abstract] systematic approach promotes continuous improvement (CI) through the consideration of corporate strategic plans and the utilisation of available data already held within the company's management databases (production, quality and maintenance). Process maps play a key role in the KMS as they are used effectively to define the manner in which data should be analysed, and to trigger the implementation of improvement tools and running of operations and maintenance tasks in a true CI environment. The KMS ensures a consistent and rigorous approach to carry out all improvement initiatives and other key asset management activities. The final part of the methodology addresses the creation of an Intranet-based knowledge repository. This repository allows searching stored knowledge about issues such as current assets, new knowledge generated from improvement projects, details of expertise located in different areas of the company, key business drivers, etc. This methodology acknowledges both the tacit and explicit knowledge within the company, and it represents an appropriate environment to promote and develop a true learning organisation. The application of process maps promotes the operationalisation of knowledge, which helps to retain organisational knowledge. Although Electronic document and record management system (EDRMS) is perceived to benefit the management of records and document in organizations, the system is not fully utilized due to consumers resistance, particularly in public sectors. [Show full abstract] study aims to validate the content of the instrument by complying rigorous protocol. Content Validity Ratio (CVR), which is a quantitative approach is adapted to validate the contents of the questionnaire. The content validation process involves eleven selected experts based on their related experience and expertise. 7 from 78 indicators were rejected after the content validation was performed. Only 71 indicators were accepted for the final questionnaire. These validated final instruments can be used to assess the EDRMS adoption in the public sector organization

Following a brief review of the historical development of the modem computer, a survey of data-base applications is presented. Simple commercial/business types (e.g. accounting, inventory) are used to provide a background for computer data-base inadequacies and the systems projected to appear in the 80’s. A total of 439 (87.4%) responses from the questionnaires distributed were analyzed using The Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) approach. The analysis found that all hypotheses except 1 were supported. The results are expected to serve as a guide for the EDRMS implementation team in the public sector of Malaysia in improving the EDRMS implementation.
