Abstract

In the UK the next decade will see a shift to higher ages in the balance of the working population and an increase in the number of people over 75. While there will not be a large change in the number of children, the load on the education and training system will be increased because full-time education will normally continue to the age of 18. The numbers of people in further and higher education and courses of training or re-training will increase considerably.
