To Repress: a Note on an Ambiguity of Meaning

An analysand used the word repress in a dream in an unusual way. In the dream, a record had been re-pressed: it was not the original disc but a copy. This manifest meaning of the word led associatively to more latent meanings. A kind of dialectical process ensued whereby, whenever the concept of repression came up, several meanings had to be considered to set the record straight. The classical ... Psychoanalytic process was enriched by this ongoing scrutiny of repression in theory and practice.

Halos in cirrus clouds: why are classic displays so rare?

PVTx measurements of the N-methylpyrrolidone/methanol mixed solvent: Cubic and SAFT EOS analyses

The PVTx behavior for the x N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) + (1 - x) methanol compressed liquid solvent is reported over the full composition range and within wide pressure and temperature ranges. The derived excess properties were analyzed in terms of structural effects and intermolecular interactions and revealed strong H-bonding heteroassociations between the two components. [Show full abstract] state by Soave (SRK), Peng-Robinson (PR), Patel-Teja (PT), and Sako-Wu-Prausnitz (SWP), and the statistical associating fluid theory (SAFT) equation of state, combined with a number of selected mixing rules, were used to correlate and predict the behavior of both the pure components and mixed solvent. While the classical cubic equations of state were not successful in describing the properties of this system, the SWP equation of state and the SAFT yielded reasonably good results.

The Selectivity Principle and the Question of the Bridged Structure of the 2-Norborynyl Cation

Taking the relative reactivity of cyclopentyl to cyclohexyl as a representative test system, it is pointed out that those reactions which reveal low exo/endo rate ratios in norbornyI also reveal low cyclopentyl/cyclohexyl rate ratios. It is proposed that the low exo/endo rate ratios in norbornyl, observed in the above reactions, arise from the low selectivities of the test reactions. Consequently, the results cannot be utilized to support the argument that low exo/endo rate ratios reflect the absence of sigma-participation and high exo/endo rate ratios reflect the presence of sigma-participation.

Lymphomatoid Papulosis Localized to the Face

We report a case of lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) localized to the face. Only ten cases of localized LyP have been reported, and those involved the extremities. Three of those cases finally evolved to classic LyP with a widespread distribution of the lesions, the other cases remain limited.
