Founded as a foundry in 1911, Lovink started producing grates around 1950. The enamel shop started in 1979. The enamelling of grates started in 1980 by wet spraying. More then 25 years of experience brought us in the high end of the cooking appliance markets around the world. The quality of these enamelled castings is the benchmark in this market sector. Over the years, many different enamel application methods have been tried for improvement of quality or reduction of production costs. Of all application methods, the EPE application is “State of the Art”.

Process knowledge for improving quality in sand casting foundries: A literature review

This includes the gathering approach, conceptualisation system and analysis to determine the varying process variables that are associated with product characterisation for final products. The paper presents a literature review on process knowledge in manufacturing focusing in sand casting method. It then explores possible application of this methodology specifically to the metal casting industry with the main aim of making it more competitive.

Optimization of Mixture Composition for Foundry

In foundry liquid glass that used as a binder for foundry molds and cores is one of the most accessible, cheap and non-toxic binders. That is why in the development of process is necessary to select the optimal composition of the mixture to produce quality castings at the lowest cost. Obtaining of a mixture for the foundry industry with the optimal properties is a complex multi-criteria problem which was solved by the theory of qualities. This let significantly reduce the duration of the experiment.

This paper presents a cost estimation system for the casting process based on the design features, which incorporates the casting information at the design stage of castings. It aims to deliver the best cost-effective choice for casting design features of a product. Two kinds of knowledge, namely economical knowledge (describing the relation between the casting design considerations and the cost) and technical knowledge (involving the material of the casting features) were structured in this research work. On the basis of the minimum product cost, casting material selection can be carried out in detail. The developed system has been validated through an industrial case study.

[Show full abstract] investigation was carried out to compare the rate of solidification of commercially pure aluminium in metallic moulds. The rate at which solidification occurred was compared with the rate at which the mould absorbed and dissipates heat. The experiments conducted recorded the temperature fields at different casting location and that of the moulds respectively. The results showed that there is a direct relation of the rate of heat absorption by the mould and the rate of solidification in metallic moulds.
