Design Guidelines for Installation Manuals for Novices

This article describes some case studies of designing the paper manual for replacing an Internet router for a home network. Constructing a method for designing easy-to-understand paper manuals for novices is one of the most important tasks at the ICT Design Center. We show how we improved the manual, which is now being distributed to actual users.

[Show full abstract] general overview of the specific features of online markets and the different kinds of Internet businesses from the competition law perspective, the chapter undertakes a thorough examination and analysis of the recent regulatory approaches and the tendencies in politics and economics in relation to the Internet. On the basis of these theoretical findings, a practical approach is chosen by means of case studies on online sellers, search engines and social networks in order to illustrate possible risks caused by structural changes in the relevant Internet markets. These findings finally allow the designing of possible guidelines and new perspectives for competition regulation in the future.

This article reports on the design approach we have implemented in order to develop usable and useful applications for VIP users. Through a rapid prototyping process we address the development of the use of our technology with blind users representatives. We present the interaction and use principles highlighted from the design of three Tactos applications: a tutorial, a street maps exploration system and a country level map application.

Die Initiative Public Private Partnership - Schulen im Netz (PPP-SiN) wurde im August 2002 gemeinsam von ... [Show full abstract] Bund, Kantonen und Privatwirtschaft lanciert und im Juli 2007 abgeschlossen. In dieser Zeit haben die beteiligten Partner schweizweit 55 Aus- und Weiterbildungsprojekte für Lehrkräfte realisiert, die ICT-Infrastruktur und den Anschluss der Schulen ans Internet substanziell ausgebaut und die Vernetzung der Schweizer Schulen durch eine nationale Bildungsplattform vorangetrieben. In dieser Abschlusspublikation wird eine ausführliche Evaluation von PPP-SiN und eine vergleichende Analyse mit Erhebungen zum Infrastrukturangebot und dessen Nutzung an Schweizer Schulen 2001 sowie 2007 vorgelegt. Alle Beteiligten bewerten aus ihrer Sicht die Fortschritte, die im Bereich ICT und Bildung in dieser Zeit dank PPP-SiN erzielt wurden und geben Auskunft über aktuelle und anstehende Schritte zur Integration von ICT im Bildungswesen sowie Hinweise auf künftige Entwicklungen.
