Abstract

The properties of nonwoven fabrics which make them suitable for use as a replacement for leather in the production of shoes are discussed. These are their elongation and strength properties as well as water vapour permeability and moisture uptake. The developments and possibilities of nonwovens for uppers, as well as for insoles and lining materials in shoes, are discussed.
