Relazione Geologica relativa all'istanza "SCAFA" (Central Apennines, Italy)

Abstract

This Geological Report is one of the main attachments to the application for the "Scafa" Exploration Permit in the Central Apennines (Italy), filed with the Ministry of Industry. The stratigraphy and the tectonic evolution of the area are described on the basis of published scientific papers and the results of previous exploration boreholes. The four principal sedimentary units of the area, namely the carbonate sedimentary sequence (Triassic to Cretaceous), the calcarenitic sequence (Palaeocene to Middle Miocene), the turbiditic sequence (Late Miocene to Early Pliocene) and the mixed clastic sequence (Middle Pliocene to Pleistocene) are addressed and described. Three main geo-tectonic phases are described, namely a foreland phase, a foredeep phase and an overthrust phase, during which two regional detachment levels were activated (first the “top carbonates” level, and later the deeper “Triassic evaporite” level). The study area is one of the first areas in Italy where oil was discovered (Tocco Casauria field, 1863). The report (without two large format figures) is made available to the public through the VIDEPI project , at link http://unmig.sviluppoeconomico.gov.it/deposito/videpi/relazioni/2090.pdf The two large format figures of the Report (Figures 3, and 7) are available separately at the link http://unmig.sviluppoeconomico.gov.it/videpi/cessati/relazione.asp?titolo=779&relazione=2090
