The requirements for service entrance conductors and service equipment in context of Article 230 of The National Electrical Code (NEC) are provided. One of the exception included in service entrance conductors is locating metering equipment at or near the end of the service drop or service lateral instead of at multiple locations. Art. 220 [230.42] states that service entrance conductors must have sufficient ampacity for the loads, while Art. 220.61 include sizing the neutral conductor to carry the maximum unbalanced load. Art. 230.51 states that the cables are supported within 1 ft of the weatherhead, raceway connections, and enclosure and at intervals not exceeding 30 inch. The service disconnecting means must have an ampere rating of at least the calculated load Art. 220 [230.79], and the rating of the disconnecting means must be at least 15A for installations consisting of a single branch circuit.
