Abstract

Singapore has opted for a private sector solution for the submarine rescue problems with a contract worth SGD400 million (USD261.8 million), on March 14, 2007. The deal involves Singapore Technologies Marine (ST Marine), collaborated with the UK-based James Fisher Defence (JFD), with a 60:40 share in revenue. The ship and submarine rescue system comprise a Submarine Support and Rescue Vessel (SSRV) that can accommodate a Submarine Rescue Vehicle (SRV) and its handling systems. The design of the SSRV is planned to begin immediately and the construction is expected to start in the third quarter of the year 2007, while the SRV is expected to be the variant of JFD's proven LR5 deep submergence rescue vehicle or the new NSRS submarine rescue system. ST Marine is responsible for the SSRV, while JFD is responsible for SRV.
