The MBI program aims at training 21st century managers by providing adapted knowledge and skills to face today’s complex and fast evolving corporate environments hence the development centered paradigm (DCP) has been implemented. This innovative pedagogical framework fosters functional maturity in learners through the acquisition and the application of knowledge which enhance soft skills personal development. Knowledge is acquired using small online private courses and applied through a problem-based learning approach during face-to-face sessions. Each topic taught involves one corporate partner who presents an adapted real case study and evaluates the solutions proposed by the academic instructor. To solve the proposed corporate issues, MBI students work in teams of five. In order to optimize a team’s ability to provide tailored solutions to the proposed problems, an individual cognitive test (TIPS) is carried out. TIPS is an innovative people-profiling method purposely designed to reveal preferred personal styles of thinking, working, interacting and innovating. The cognitive pattern of each student is determined and teams are assembled by combining complementary profiles.
The preliminary results demonstrate that the use of TIPS in the team building process with corporate and regular students improves team’s agility and empowers the efficiency of the DCP pedagogy. The cognitive profiles complementation reinforces soft skills development among student teams through real corporate problem solving.
As this new pedagogical tool combination enhances soft skills development, it provides a transposable solution to better adjust the educational content to the evolving business needs.
