Abstract

Quality management systems (QMS) based on the requirements of ISO 9001 standard have been present for more than twenty years. The audits of the QMS are used to evaluate the level of compliance to the requirements of relevant standards. The objective of this paper is to investigate the non-conformities observed during the quality audits in the implementation and application of the QMS according to the requirements of ISO 9001 standard. The investigation was performed on the authentic systems during a practical implementation of the QMS in different organizations. This four years investigation includes 25 organizations, with different scopes of activity and a different number of employees. The QMS s of these companies have been monitored in detail for four years. Internal audit reports were collected from the companies, and the author himself performed the external audits at the companies that were included in this investigation. The non-conformities identified during the audits are grouped according to the requirements of ISO 9001 standard. These data are analyzed to determine whether the size of the organization has any influence on the non-conformities identified at the QMS audits.

... QMS is essentially based on the requirements of ISO 9001 standard where its audits are used to evaluate the level of compliance to the requirements of relevant standards [40] and [41]analysed the difficulties during implementation of QMS according to these international requirements and among the challenges was deformities of products and services. A study by Wu [42] developed an information analysis system to isolate the causes of nonconformity and quickly identify the causes of problems thereby reducing the time taken to solve quality-related problems. ...
... Having in mind the fin dings of [2] ("management's lack of support, its resistance to change ... make it difficult to cul ti vate and take advantage of opportunities for TQM's potential benefits"), findings of the research so far give an impression that managers in Ser bia are still not significantly committed to QM, TQM and continuous improvement. Some use ful findings about the relationship between in ter nal and external audits and number of em plo yees of a company are given in [25]. Quality engineering techniques are imple men ted poorly in Serbia. ...

For this research, an ad hoc questionnaire was sent to a representative sample of quality managers in Serbian certified organisations to determine their estimate of the quality management principles application (QMPA) as an overall estimate of management commitment to quality management practice. In a stable business environment, high impact of TQM elements application to the QMPA is likely to be expected. Objective parameters (number of employees, form of ownership of organisation, etc.) are not likely to form significant variations in managers' perceptions of TQM elements. It is determined that only a few of the selected TQM elements are predictors of a subjective estimate of the QMPA (estimates of QMS, changes after certification, human resource management and process management). Observed objective parameters (number of employees and whether an organisation is employing a network administrator or not) showed statistically significant variations in estimates of TQM elements. Research results point to the conclusion that Serbia is yet to take the long journey towards raising awareness about the management commitment to QM and TQM practice. It is possible that other economies in transition also have similar problems in this area.
... QMS towards BE. The results presented in [36] show a certain congruence and similarity in the conclusion. According to this approach, this is also the last area of the standard that has special and priority significance for improvement. ...

This paper establish a model for improvement of business processes performances based on quality management system (QMS) through a comparison with top organizational performances characterized by criteria i.e. particularities of the business excellence (BE) model. Analogy between QMS and human organism has been established to that effect. This analogy develops into two directions, one of which is used and presented in this paper (related to the analogy with willing functions of the human organism). Based on identification, measurement and analyses of occurrences of nonconformities in relation to requests of ISO 9001 standard, and based on the analogy with the human organism, conclusions about the readiness of organizations of productive and service type in terms of achieving BE have been drawn and areas and priorities regarding the improvement with the aim of achieving top performances have been identified.

This work focuses on the problem of non conformity (NC) characterisation in quality management systems (QMS) and introduces a fuzzy inference engine (FE) for NC analysis based on multi-stage quality control. The research has a twofold objective: 1) to characterise NCs based on risk analysis principles, 2) to define NC priorities. The FE is implemented according to the main requirements of the new ISO 9001:2015 Standard regarding risk analysis and NC assessment. The methodology was tested within an assembly line of mechanical components, where a number of NCs were detected and classified with respect to multiple features. Within this classification, risk analysis is explored through the use of failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMECA). A risk criticality index (RCI) is defined and evaluated, which addresses NC criticality and the relative action priorities. [Received 28 January 2016; Revised 25 March 2016; Accepted 24 June 2016].

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present the specifications of the CQI Heat Treat System Assessment, together with a discussion of the importance, development, implementation and use of this specification. An analysis of the quality management system of the selected organization was performed, which takes care of the thermo-chemical treatment-nitriding, as regards to the specification AIAG CQI-9. The study was carried out to compare the standards based on the scope of the organization covered by individual standards and their hierarchy, where the levels are adequate for the scope of the quality management system. Design/methodology/approach: An assessment of the compliance with the requirements of the CQI-9 based on the criteria closed in the documentation of the specification was performed, by evaluated according to the requirements imposed by the CQI-9, and determining the compliance of the quality system with the requirements determined in the documentation of the specification, with the subscription in the documentation. Findings: As a result of the audit of the nitriding process of selected part of the technology in relation to the requirements of the CQI-9 specification, the deficiencies were identified in relation to the requirements of the CQI-9 specification, and suggestions for their solutions were provided. Research limitations/implications: The paper presents the steps and how to verify the quality management system in the process of heat treatment. Practical implications: The result of the audit specifications CQI-9 detected non-compliance to requirements of the specification. The improvement of the quality management system, with some recommendations, allows to target the activities of the process to the needs and expectations of customers. Originality/value: The paper presents some requirements concerning the quality of the selected part of the thermo-chemical treatment process.
