Abstract

Japan and South Korea are planning to revisit location-based services (LBS) and are bundling it with other mobile data applications. Operators are bundling LBS with other enterprise and consumer applications and are coming up with business models that allow them to redeploy the technology. Operators are investing in services that integrate LBS with other presence-based, peer-to-peer services. Operators are required by the Federal Communications Commission to implement so-called E-911 capability, which tracks mobile phone users in case of an emergency.
