The use of LED headlights reduces carbon emissions and makes night driving safer. These headlights as if now are common in the cars such Audi R8, a Cadillac or Escalade but the OEMs and the suppliers are aiming to introduce the lights in the A-segment by 2013. For headlights, that could mean easily switching between high and low beams without the need for a mechanical shutter, makes LEDs' packaging much more efficient. These lights are much durable, designed to last the lifetime of a car and are cost effective. Osram, supplier of the LED headlights, worked to improve efficiency and hit the light thresholds so performance is acceptable for forward lighting applications. The performance makes LED headlighting much cleaner than either halogen or xenon making the LED color very close to daylight reducing glare from oncoming traffic and light the road better. The company has developed LED lights ranging from 140 lumen to 1,000 lumen, and are as small as 1mm2. Various suppliers of LED headlight such as Hella, Osram and Marelli agree that LED technology is beneficial in every way.
