Geological environment data processing using GIS in areas proposed for urban development Argolis, Greece

A GIS system in the ARC/INFO software environment has been established controlling the urban development propriety of Nea Kios and Porto Heli areas, in Argolis region. The available lithologic, tectonic, geomorphologic hydrogeological and geotechnical data have entered in the system and created certain thematic level maps, especially required for the urban development consideration. The presentation of the data as well as the elaboration results are accompanied by a critical approach, concerning both the results and the GIS application.

A Precision Farming Application in the Small Cotton Farms of Greece

Cotton is the most important arable crop in Greece. It is cultivated in small fields with average size less than 6 ha. A project aiming at evaluating precision farming technology was initiated in 2001 harvesting period. Yield mapping of cotton fields in Greece were performed during 2001 and 2002 harvesting periods. Additionally soil penetration resistance in 0-0.50 m depth, was measured at the same grid. The results showed a large yield variation in the fields studied. Using data processing techniques over GIS yield zones can be drawn which can be the basis of any variable input application. Correlation between the parameters studied and yield were not significant apart from soil organic matter and P in the 0-0.30 m depth and clay, sand and Mg in the 0.30-0.60 depth for the year 2001 and soil organic matter, Na and P in the 0-0.30 m depth and silt and sand for the 0.30-0.60 depth for the year 2002 . Soil compaction as estimated by the penetration resistance showed a significant negative correlation to yields. The yield of the two years in the field of 4.3 ha presented a significant correlation, although the different weather seasons.

High-speed digital signal normalization for feature identification

A design approach for high speed normalization of digital signals was developed. A reciprocal look up table technique is employed, where a digital value is mapped to its reciprocal via a high speed memory. This reciprocal is then multiplied with an input signal to obtain the normalized result. Normalization improves considerably the accuracy of certain feature identification algorithms. By using ... The breadboard system was found to operate at an execution rate of five million normalizations per second. This design features high precision, a reduced hardware complexity, high flexibility, and expandability which are very important considerations for spaceborne applications. It also accomplishes a high speed normalization rate essential for real time data processing.

New geomagnetic measurements in the Republic of Macedonia

The time-comparison-equipment processing unit (TCE-PRO) on-board Engineering Test Satellite VIII (ETS VIII) functions as the TCE-con- trol unit; it controls data acquisition as well as digital data processing. It calculates the pseudo-ranges and instrumental delay from the code phases and carrier phases of a com- bined IF signal (the received signal, the transmitted signal, and the delay calibration signal), enabling the time to be synchronized between earth and satellite clocks.

Position and attribute data captured in the field is often manually transported back to the office and loaded into mapping packages, civil engineering packages, or GIS databases for further processing. However, data arriving in real-time poses a number of problems and requires the method in which office data processing is carried out to be modified. A number of approaches are discussed in this paper, including a large common database, assigning data to smaller databases as it is received from the field, a common exchange standard and agent-based software.

Sediment thickness in the study area ranged approximately from 0.4. km to 6. km. The highest gravity values (≥. 30. mGal) are associated with igneous rocks; the intermediate gravity values (11-29. mGal) are associated with Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, while the lower gravity values (<. 11. mGal) are associated with Tertiary rocks. Boundary of the Anambra Basin from the western-Southwestern-southern portion of the study area is inferred around and along Adeigba-Umuezeanam-Nnewi-Akokwa areas, its boundary in the north-western part is beyond Igga and exists somewhere outside the study area, around Ogurugu, while its boundary in the southeastern side is around Umulokpa community. In the northern part of the study area the basin went beyond Obolafor in Enugu State and extended up to Orokam in Benue State. Afikpo Basin has been defined as a distinct inland basin different from the Anambra Basin. The present work has indicated that basin boundaries do not always coincide with surface lithologic boundaries; hence, field relationship alone is not enough for basin boundary demarcations.
