DOCTOR OF ENGINEERING PROGRAM AT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY.

The College of Engineering at Texas A&M Univeristy is initiating a new 7 year program leading to the Doctorate of Engineering. It encompasses a 2 year preprofessional program and a 5 year professional program which includes a 1 year internship in industry. The D. Eng. curriculum is professionally-oriented, emphasizing those components of engineering education which prepare a person to engage in the practice of engineering, to solve engineering problems. This contrasts with the Ph. D. which prepares one for teaching and/or research. Curricular requirements are presented.

The challenges faced by the department are 1) to offer these dual majors an integrated curriculum that would take advantage of their engineering background and 2) to offer a curriculum which will enable them to complete the degree within one additional year without compromising the integrity of the program. In this paper, the authors discuss in detail their Computational Mathematics curriculum and the modification of the curriculum for the dual majors.

Within this framework, safety is embedded into the curriculum from the start in Year 1 and is continually extended and advanced throughout the process engineering program. As the first cohort of students graduate we reflect on how this has been implemented and received.

Luego, esbozo el desarrollo histórico de la noción de límite (ver capítulo II). Finalmente, indago y caracterizo las concepciones espontánea sobre el concepto de Límite, que tienen los estudiantes de Matemática I, Sección 02, de Ingeniería en Informática de la UCLA, del primer lapso de 1998 y determino que en efecto existen cambios de actitud, de estos estudiantes, cuando para introducir de forma intuitiva la noción de límite, utilizo la calculadora gráfica TI-82. Cabe destacar que como recurso didáctico, utilizo también referencias históricas del concepto, para lograr de esta manera una clase más motivante. (ver capítulo III).
