Abstract

Advancements in nanotechnology have allowed the automotive industry to deploy advanced nanoceramic smart coatings for car windows. These coatings enable the automotive glass to achieve multiple functions, such as enhanced durability by a factor of 25, higher infrared heat rejection, lower visible reflection for safe driving, and 13°C cooler cabin temperature. GMX Associates has worked jointly with Singapore research institute, Productivity and Standards Board (PSB), and German institute, Fraunhofer Institute for Electron Beam and Plasma Technology (FEP), to develop a new smart coating to be deposited on to the polyester for solar control. The research objectives have been to develop a material that will be highly durable and not fade like dyed films, providing a good heat filtering effect without having a shiny, mirror-like appearance metallized films.
