Head-to-head (H–H) linkages were observed in addition and condensation polymers. Pure H–H polymers of polyolefins, poly(vinyl halides), and polyacrylates were prepared, and the fundamental polymer properties were determined. Thermal degradation of modified poly(α-methylstyrene)

The thermal degradation of poly(α-methylstyrene), modified with chloromethoxyphosphoryl or 1,1-diphenylethyl groups, has been studied. The overall thermal stability of the polymer is much decreased by the chloromethoxyphosphoryl group whereas it is unaltered by the 1,1-diphenylethyl. Thermal degradation of cellulose treated with polyphosphoric acid

Thermal degradation of cellulose ortho- and polyphosphates is studied by thermal and X-ray diffraction analyses and IR spectroscopy. Functional compositions of the condensed phase and volatile products of degradation in the 20-500°C interval are determined.
