Abstract

Yagya Ahuja discusses how social media can work for oil and gas industry. The thing to remember about social media is that though everything is one-on-one and instantaneous between company and individual, the conversation is totally public. While Blogs, Facebook and Twitter are often used to criticize the industry, they can also be the most effective ways for us to actually engage the diverse audiences. While the Energy Industry has been quick to embrace social media in its communication mix, recognition of its multiple utilities for internal uses has been surprisingly slow. Some benefits of recruiting through networks like Linked-in are well known for its cost effectiveness, its usually upto-date and accurate profiles and the fact that it allows anonymous verification. Another serving that social media brings to the industry's table is that it can help ameliorate the Energy Industry's next big human resources crisis.
