Distribution of planktonic foraminifera in the North Atlantic sediments (In Russian). Распределение планктонных фораминифер в осадках северной части Атлантического океана

Abstract

Planktonic foraminifera were studied in 35 samples of surface sediment in the fraction more than 0,1 mm. The Foraminiferal Number (number of speci¬mens occuring in one gram of dry sediment) totals in most samples to 40—50 thousands.
For the five most common species, which together give generally 90—95 % of planktonic foraminifera, the maps of per cent contents in the fauna and the maps of quantitative contents in one gram of sediment are presented.
These species arrange in the following order from the most cold-water to the most warm-water forms: Globigerina pachyderma — G. quinqueloba — G. bulloides — Globigerinita glutinata — Globigerina inflata.
