Biografical time, historical time and Zeitgeist in the Autobiography of Dietrich von Hildebrand

Published extracts from the memoirs of a German philosopher Dietrich von Hildebrand from the years 1921-1937 are marked by historical time, which formed the background of the author's life. They are focused on the philosopher's struggle with the prevailing "spirit of the times" and the influence of this conflict on the philosopher's biographical choices. The article, which forms a part of a broader research project, is an attempt to explore the relationship between Hildebrand's understanding of his own role and the external Zeitgeist (understood as latent structures of meaning) inspired by objective hermeneutics.
