Abstract

In September 2001 the Union Catalogue of the Valencian Public Reading Network began to function. This article describes the entire management process that oversaw development and implementation of this online catalogue. The issues analysed include the initial proposal, IT systems requirements, merging of the catalogues, unifying library criteria and policies, new possibilities enabled by the co-operative endeavour, and improvements to user services.

The working group for CBUA's union catalogue analyses the process for configuring and implementing the InnReach union catalogue management software within Andalusia's academic libraries, touching upon the strengths and weaknesses of the process. This project represents a step towards the objective of library co-operation in Andalusia and an innovative initiative in its integration of a loan system into a union catalogue.
