Chromo therapy- An Effective Treatment Option or Just a Myth?? Critical Analysis on the Effectiveness of Chromo therapy

Background: Chromo therapy or commonly color therapy falls under the category of Complementary and Alternative Medicine System (CAMS) of treatment by utilizing electromagnetic radiations with different frequencies which effects human nuerohormonal pathways and can be helpful to cure diseases. It is one of the most successful ancient practices which are now gaining interest as a valid and effective science. It is a well established fact that chromo therapy triggers the specific points in our body and relieves various ailments. Objective: Prevalence of chromo therapy as an alternative and complementary treatment option and to raise awareness of its magnificent effects. Methodology: People are using chromo therapy as a complementary as well as an alternative treatment option worldwide. In current studies, survey has been conducted in different educational institutions, hospitals, locality and online data. Close ended questionnaire has been distributed to a sample size of 200 individuals (n= 200). Results: The studies have proved that chromo therapy has tremendous effects on diseases like cancer specially breast cancer, hematoma (red), hepatitis B (combination of various lights), hypertension, neonatal jaundice (blue light), spondylosis, peptic ulcer disease (yellow light), depression and stress, migraine (green light), hyperthyroidism (violet/blue light), alopecia (violet), color blindness (blue/ green) and various skin infections specially cutaneous leishmaniasis (blue and red). Studies have shown that 56.5% individuals of the targeted population, are aware of chromo therapy and 33% of them are in favor that this should prevail as an alternative as well complementary treatment option, due to its minimal or no side effects and its effectiveness. Conclusion: Current studies concluded that chromo therapy is a natural way to cure various ailments, utilizes worldwide. Further it illustrates that chromo therapy is an effective evolution of science in the field of electromagnetic radiation/energy and it can be very helpful in discovering new dimensions of treatment.

I. INTRODUCTION
Nature has undisputable effect on body physiology. Colors have potential to cause a dominant effect on our
sensations and senses. Man still relies on light and appealed by colors. Dynamic influences of colors on human body
are undeniable. It has been healing mankind in the form of chromo therapy from centuries, [1] Chromo therapy/color
therapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic radiations (wavelength
7700-3900 AU) and invisible spectrum (infrared and UV), to cure diseases [2]. There are specific sites (centers) in
body which absorbs color of varying wavelength and produce effect [3, 4]. When the ratios of the required colors in
one or more centers of the body imbalances, it gives rise to the various ailments and when the colors are balanced,
diseases are easily cured. In order to overcome the deficiency or to normalize excess of a color, sunlight or artificial
lights are used [5, 6]. Each color generates electrical impulses and field of energy that serves as activators of
biochemical and hormonal processes. So, the dysfunction of body organs can be treated by chromo therapy [7, 8].
Previous studies has been conducted in this regard has proven the fact that there is a specific color for each organ
that affects the human body by producing physiological and/ or psychological effects [9,10] if specific organ is
concerned, low energy level (infrared) light i.e. blue and violet, can be employed in the clinical management of
migraine which arise due to stress, lack of blood volume (following from pregnancy or at the end of menstruation)

or low blood pressure.[8,11,12] Also, it attenuates hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress and enhances the
antioxidant protection system[13, 14] also, chromo therapy is found to be beneficial in long term management of
stress in patients with stroke by using vibrant colors in their surroundings [11]. Previous analysis has demonstrated
the effects of visible range irradiation (in vitro) on the enzyme solutions (glucose oxidase, cholesterol oxidase +
cholesterol esterase and lipase) and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) in order to infer the changes produced in the
human body after chromo therapy were studied, and researchers found tremendous elevations in theses enzymatic
activity [9, 15] also, the stimulatory and calming effects of red and blue lights, respectively, cannot be denied
specially, in the cases of muscular spasm in calf muscles [16, 17]
As far as psychological effects of colors are concerned, we have come to know that colors are really beneficial for
man in every respect. [13] For instance, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD] is a severe psychological traumatic
condition in which a patient may develop a series of uncontrolled flashbacks. It is believed that this abnormal
psychological and abnormal behavior is due to hyperactivity of amygdalus and hippocampus or low responsivity of
hippocampus, rostral anterior cingulated cortex. Researchers used a new technique, in order to vanish the painful
disturbing memories “Eye Movement & Desentization Reprocessing (EMDR)” accompanied by
“Auriculochromotherapy”, which served as a path between external ear and affected brain parts.
This was done by applying yellow laser light at sensitive parts of ear which were identified primarily by palpitating
the ear lobe. The response was that painful memories disappeared completely after one minute of exposure and at
the same time emotions connecting to painful images were also decreased.[23,24] A series of investigations have
demonstrated chromo therapy clinically effective and safe in patients with acute respiratory disease, acute tonsillitis,
cervical dorsipathies, vegetative dysfunction and in stroke and hypertensive out-patients. It serves as bacteriocidal,
anti inflammatory and vegeto-corrective therapy [12, 1, and 16]

II. DEVELOPMENT OF COLOR INTO COLOR THERAPY

Chromo therapy is a centuries which was started from the Egyptian era [3, 24]. In A.D 980, Ibn Sina (Avicenna)
formulated a chart of various colors and brought up the concept of warming and cooling colors [29]. In 6th century
BC Orpheus, used vibrational medicine of color and light as a mode of healing [30]. Apuleius revealed the diagnosis
of epilepsy with a flickering light. Ptolemy, proposed the concept, that when light entered into eyes, stimulated the
specific brain centers and produced a feeling of euphoria (due to the release of „feel-good‟ hormone-serotonin) in a
person[31]. Middle Ages in 1493, Paracelsus reintroduced the color philosophy and used color with music and herbs
as a complementary medicine. [25] In 1666 Sir Isaac Newton formed a wheel which of colors that is harmonious
together, and other colors that might clash. [32] Johann Wolfgang Goethe observed the principle, called “polarity
and elevation.” It says that only those colors can be combined together which have no or little difference of polarity.
[13] Edwin Burr Babbitt (1803-1881) revealed stimulatory effect of red color on blood, soothing effect of violet/blue
to be used as anti inflammatory and yellow/ orange as laxative. [28, 33] Ewald Hering gave opponent colour
processes theory, based on two opponent systems which posses‟ inhibitory and excitatory responses, controlled by
opponent neurons, (neurons which respond to specific wavelength). [34] Dr. Ott (1997) was the first person to
evaluate the effect of chromo therapy at the DNA level [14] Dr. Harrah Conforth (1991) applied colour and light to
facilitate whole Brain synchronization [35]

Prevalence of chromo therapy as an effective adjunct with conventional medicine and to create awareness regarding
its miraculous influences on our body and soul
2.1. Methodology
In order to gain knowledge about the awareness and use of chromo therapy, a generalized closed-ended survey was
conducted in various localities and educational institutions of Karachi. In this survey sample size of 200 (n=200)
individuals has been selected comprised of three different age groups, 15-25 yr, 26-36 yr and 36 yr onwards were
cross-examined. Data was collected within a month of Aug‟2014. A specialized questionnaire was designed which
includes16 questions in all focusing on the general perception and believe of people regarding chromo therapy,
techniques and medication used , its effectiveness and prevalence. Also, we evaluated the side effects and
inconvenience experienced by participants which undergone through chromo therapy.
2.2. Data Analysis
The current research results are formulated and expressed graphically. Parameters like general awareness about the
chromo therapy, treated population, effectiveness, side effect profile and its prevalence ratio is expressed by using
bar charts (fig.1, 2, 3, 5, 7). Also, pie charts (fig. 4, 6, 8) are used to express the evaluation of the targeted population
regarding the diseases which have been treated by chromo therapy and factor involved in its prevalence.

III. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Chromo therapy is the method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic radiations
(wavelength 7700-3900 AU) and invisible spectrum (infrared and UV), to cure diseases. There are specific sites
(centers) in body which absorbs color of varying wavelength and produce effect. In current analysis, out of 200
individuals 56.5% (113/200) people have knowledge about chromo therapy, and 38% individuals have treated by it
(fig. 1, fig. 2) and 90% found it very effective while 86% says to some extent it is an effective treatment (fig 3). 11%
of the people believed that it is effective against hepatitis, hematoma, hypothyroidism, Alopecia, spondylosis, skin
diseases, (14%) various types of cancer, breast cancer, (13%) hypertension. (20%) and (17%) cases were of peptic
ulcer disease and neonatal jaundice, respectively (fig 4).
While cross-examination of the collected data, it was observed that chromo therapy has very low side effect profile,
only 5% says they experienced side effects (fig 7). Out of treated population, only 2% individuals used medication
during chromo therapy (table 3).
People gave quite a positive response regarding the future prevalence. 54% are in favor of chromo therapy should be
used as basic treatment option (fig 6), 31% believes that it should be prevalent (fig 7).
Chromo therapy is believed to be a myth but there is complete science behind its tremendous functionality. The
current analysis has highlighted its usefulness in various ailments. This therapy is not new it has been going on from
many centuries. This was initiated by Egyptians, Native Americans, Greeks, and Indians, and still it is practiced
worldwide. A number of researches have been conducted in this regard that brought up new advancement in this
field. It has gone through multiple developmental stages.
Doctrine of chromo therapy says it is significantly known fact that there is an electromagnetic field around every
object in this world. This electromagnetic field refers to an “Aura” composed of different layers of colors. Each
color is associated with a specific energy center in the body, called as “chakras”. Chakra (in Sanskrit) means a
spinning-wheel, that creates a vacuum in the centre and draws-in, the energy from its surrounding Aura. All organs
and limbs of the body have their respective color that corresponds to the surrounding electromagnetic field. There
are seven main Chakras or energy centers in the body at different locations. Some people also believed that there is
an extended chakra system based on 12 chakras associated with human body, but these lack the power to influence
human health, they are said be connected with a person‟s spirituality.
Seven main chakras are associated with different organs in our body.
First or Root Chakra, located at the baseline of spine, its master organ is adrenal gland & it is associated with
color red.
Second or Spleen Chakra, located at the pelvic area, gonads are mainly affected by it & it is associated by color
orange.
Third or Solar plexus Chakra, located at abdomen, it affects pancreas & it is associated with color yellow.
Fourth or Heart Chakra, located at chest, thymus is its master gland & it is associated with color green
Fifth or Throat Chakra, thyroid is the master gland & it is associated with color blue
Sixth or Brow Chakra, located at brow, mainly affects pineal gland & it is associated with indigo
Seventh or Crown Chakra, located at the crown area, master gland is pituitary & it is associated with violet
These energy centers or chakras must be balanced. If a person‟s chakra is thought to be out of balance or weak, the
patient is believed to be unhealthy. It is scientifically proven that toxins, negative thoughts, dietary chemicals and
environmental factors or any other form of pollutants may aggravate the chakra imbalance. Chromo therapy is a
technique that restores the synchronization of theses energy centers by application of healing colors to the body.
Firstly, a chromo therapist needs to rectify the imbalanced chakra and its cause, in order to treat the ailment
completely. If the cause persist color therapy can mask the symptoms associated with the ailment. Once the
disturbed chakra is identified, its associated color application either directly or indirectly, may provide relief. Now,
this color will generate electrical impulses and magnetic field of energy which in turns initiates biochemical and
hormonal processes within the body. According to the achieved results of current analysis, it is concluded that
chromo therapy is an attractive, non-invasive, cost-effective complementary and alternative treatment option with
relatively few negative effects. it is found to be very effective against stress, depression, hypertension,

hypothyroidism, hepatits B, peptic ulcer disease and conditions associated with it, aloepoecia, spondylosis,
hematoma, neonatal jaundice, insomnia, different types of pains even skin infections have also been treated by it,
without any noticeable adverse effects!

IV. CONCLUSION
These convincing facts regarding chromo therapy have made it one of the most effective and potent complementary
and alternative treatment options. But the dilemma is, very few of us are aware of its beneficial aspects. This therapy
should be recognized and adopted by physicians to support the conventional therapy. Today, homeopathic,
ayurvedic, unani remedies, and Chinese medicinal systems are being incorporated in conventional therapy, then why
not colors can be used for the treatment. Chromo therapy works on a principle that optimal distribution and
maintenance of various colors (energies) within the body is essential for its normal functioning. It is a complete
science which involves biophysics, medicine, psychology. These constituting fields of chromo therapy would widen

the scope of this important branch of alternate and complementary therapy and can be used as an adjunct to
conventional medicine. Surely, chromo therapy has a promising scope in near future as it has a potential to appear as
an emerging technology.

Depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms are alarmingly increasing among university student populations and may have a major impact on achieving their academic and life goals. It is seen that in most cases the student’s academic performance, health, and quality of life is negatively impacted as a result. Research suggests that Architectural elements have an impact on mental distresses and individual wellbeing. This research attempted to address the above concern by focusing on the impact of colour, as an Architectural element, on psychiatric imbalances among Undergraduates with special consideration on depression, anxiety, and stress levels. The study was conducted with 36 participants from the Department of Architecture of the University of Moratuwa. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic's travel limitations, the study was conducted remotely through Zoom online conferencing platform and non-immersive virtual mode under three selected colour conditions (tints of green, blue, and red) with the aid of DASS-21 scale to evaluate stress, anxiety, and depression levels. Colour red was found to induce the most adverse impacts on stress, anxiety, and depression levels, whereas green indicated a comparatively low adverse impact. Blue had the slightest adverse impact on depression and anxiety with a slightly favourable impact on reducing stress. The findings of this study suggests that the incorporation of appropriate colours in design interventions could facilitate the creation of better classroom interiors in order to address depression, anxiety and stress related disorders of undergraduates. The natural environment is increasingly valued for its positive effect in retaining/restoring good mental health. Landscape architects are now challenged to embed therapeutic aspects within certain landscape designs, but what does this mean in practice? Flower colour has been one area that has attracted attention as potentially improving the restorative aspects of a designed landscape. In this research, 670 UK residents were surveyed to examine their preferences and emotional responses to flower colour using computer-generated images of ‘daisy-like’ flowers in 8 separate colours. Results showed that white, blue and orange were the most preferred flower colours. The data suggested, however, two separate phenomena were determining the psychological benefits associated with flower colour. The first is that there are some generic responses associated with key floral colours – flowers in blue play an effective role in relaxation/stress reduction; and warm colours - orange, yellow and red evoke uplifted emotions and deliver better positive affect. Interestingly, white was a colour that could both relax and provide uplifted emotions. The second phenomenon though, suggests that additionally and independently, an individual preference for a particular colour can also elicit positive psychological benefits, irrespective of what that particular colour is. In effect, favoured colours have a separate restorative effect that acts at a personal level. This finding has significance for landscape architects in that certain flower colours can be used to promote ‘generic’ therapeutic responses in appropriate locations, but that components of any designed landscape still need to take some account of personal responses and preferences.

Chromotherapy, also called Color Therapy or Visible Range Radiation Therapy, is a non-pharmacological therapeutic modality that uses various wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation from within the visible spectrum (colors). Methods & Materials: The study was performed on 65 healthy participants from SGT University, Gurgaon, India. Full, free, and voluntary informed consent was obtained from all subjects and/or their legal guardian(s). Colour deficiency was diagnosed with the help of Environics Colour Slides and an Instrument called Lecher Antenna which works on the principle of resonance. The diagnosis results obtained from color slides and Lecher Antenna, (SBJ International, PARIS) were compared with the results obtained from the Es- Teck Complex, (LD Technology™, US) an FDA-approved Medical Software and Machine. Results: It was observed that 86.11% of participants showed improvement in their health conditions after using the Environics Colour Slides for the period specified during the diagnosis. It was also observed that there was an 87.69% correlation between the findings of the Environics Colour Slides / Lecher Antenna combination and the ES-Teck Medical Software in identifying the health condition of the participants. Conclusion: Chromotherapy will greatly benefit from this evidence base and help propagate this alternative treatment modality for the safe, and non-pharmacological treatment of many diseases [5].

The study examined colour dynamics and the multimedia industry and its role in video games. The study was conducted on the assumption that colour dynamics played a very important role in the development of video games in the multimedia industry. To collect data for the research, two video games, Luxor: the quest for the afterlife and Drawn: dark flight was used. Forty-five volunteers between the ages of 20 – 55 were asked to play the two games and afterwards answered questionnaires based on the two games. Game developers and designers from Ghana, Kenya, and the United Kingdom were also interviewed for their opinion on the subject under study. The study proved that certain emotions are evoked when playing video games because of the colours used, implying that colours used in the design of video games affect the audience and their reactions to the choice of colours used in the specific types of video games. The study also revealed that colour played an important role in influencing audience decision to buy or watch various products in the multimedia industry. However, people’s perception of colour was influenced by their environment and culture which was either inborn or learned. Also, people associated certain objects or concepts with certain colours. The study, therefore, recommends a series of longitudinal studies considering the evolving nature of technology as well as peoples’ perception of colour to help document more accurately these perceptions to build on the trend and opinions of others based on ethnicity, geographical locations, culture, and age-relatedness of specific target groups with supporting data statistics.

Colours and emotions are associated in languages and traditions. Some of us may convey sadness by saying feeling blue or by wearing black clothes at funerals. The first example is a conceptual experience of colour and the second example is an immediate perceptual experience of colour. To investigate whether one or the other type of experience more strongly drives colour-emotion associations, we tested 64 congenitally red-green colour-blind men and 66 non-colour-blind men. All participants associated 12 colours, presented as terms or patches, with 20 emotion concepts, and rated intensities of the associated emotions. We found that colour-blind and non-colour-blind men associated similar emotions with colours, irrespective of whether colours were conveyed via terms (r = .82) or patches (r = .80). The colour-emotion associations and the emotion intensities were not modulated by participants’ severity of colour blindness. Hinting at some additional, although minor, role of actual colour perception, the consistencies in associations for colour terms and patches were higher in non-colour-blind than colour-blind men. Together, these results suggest that colour-emotion associations in adults do not require immediate perceptual colour experiences, as conceptual experiences are sufficient.

At this time, consumers expect food products to have both organoleptic features (such as flavor) and health advantages. The rapidly growing field of "functional foods," which are goods with health-improving qualities beyond the provision of vital nutrients, is the focus of efforts for new product development. Functional foods can come in a variety of shapes and sizes; some may be conventional items containing bio active ingredients, while others may be fortified to lower disease risk in a particular population. Numerous elements can function as functional ingredients in food matrices or as pure supplements or cures, according to research being conducted at academic, industrial, and governmental facilities (nutraceuticals). In fact, there are countless possibilities for producing functional goods using ingredients from both traditional and unconventional plant and animal sources. Future developments in our understanding of the structure-function relationships of food bioactives, novel formulation and delivery techniques for bioactives to various parts of the digestive system, improved sensory quality and shelf life of the product, the creation of an appropriate regulatory framework to facilitate labeling claims, and improved consumer understanding of health-related benefits will all be crucial for the success of functional foods. This review paper seeks to address the major aspects encompassing the functional foods arena by taking into account the definition, bioactive components, development, and market dynamics of functional products, and also the trends, opportunities, and obstacles the food industry faces in translating proper nutritional research and technological innovative ideas (e.g. store up, nanomaterials new tech, packing materials, etc.) into safe and health-beneficial products.

Para la búsqueda bibliográfica se consideraron estudios y documentos referidos al tema. Se analizaron experiencias de sus aplicaciones y aportaciones de diferentes autores; esto permitió una revisión analítica sobre la aplicación y el uso del color, así como su impacto en la psicología humana. Se puede concluir que el color en la temática de la salud influye en la percepción y el bienestar de las personas porque brinda tranquilidad y esperanza de vida.

Most people with dementia live at home supported by informal caregivers, but disturbed sleep patterns may induce a heavy burden of care. The beneficial effects of bright light on their sleep, health, and well-being have been demonstrated in clinical settings, but not in a home situation. We evaluated a dynamic lighting system in a real-life longitudinal single-case experimental design (SCED) with people with dementia living at home. Eleven people with dementia and their informal caregivers were included in this study with four 4-week periods of alternating exposure and nonexposure in an introduction–withdrawal setup (ABAB). Objective light exposure data were collected and analyzed. The used study design seems applicable for this population and suitable for home use. Participant dropout did occur, but was due to health conditions rather than participant burden. The lighting system led to more light in the homes of the participants, as well as to higher actual individual light exposures, although the latter increased only moderately and not consistently across all participants, seasons, and times of day. The participants appreciated the lighting system even after 6 months. We reflect on individual differences, seasonal and daypart influences, and differential light effects. Recommendations and lessons learned are discussed.

Color therapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic radiation to cure diseases. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to cure various diseases 1. Today in the age of globalization alternative medicines are widely used to solve numerous health and mind related problems. Color Therapy is one of the most popular alternative medicines used to influence the behavior and brain of people. It has been immense used in Egypt, India and China for centuries. The benefits of color therapy are undeniable 2. Color Therapists or Chromo therapists claim to be able to use different lights or rays in the form of color to maintain a balance or energy lacking in a person's body. The lacking can be of emotional, mental, spiritual and/or physical. The different colors we see in the world around us are the result of the eye perceiving light vibrating at different frequencies. Sunlight, or full-spectrum light, holds all the wavelengths of color in the visible spectrum (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and magenta) as well as infrared and ultraviolet light, which cannot be seen. To treat both physical and emotional problems, color therapy may involve exposure to colored lights, massages using color-saturated oils, contemplating and visualizing colors, even wearing colored clothing and eating colored foods 3. Color is an important component of our built environment and without its presence; our environment would be dull and depressing. It plays a vital role in our built environment, especially in relation to the partially blind, infants, hospital patients and people who are for some reason or the other feel trapped and unhappy with their way of life. Auricular Chromotherapy has been showing promising results in the treatment of psychological trauma. With its relatively easy and quick technical application and the good results produced, this procedure may be an indispensable tool for physicians. However, its mechanism of action is not yet completely understood. The technique was created by Dr. Daniel Asis and Dr. Frederico Zarragoicoechea (Argentina), with contribution of Dr. Jorge Boucinhas (Brazil) and Dr. Rafaël Nogier (France) and includes the arousal and vanishing of traumatic images and emotions similar to the ‘Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing’ (EMDR) procedure [1]. This work mentions: (i) the steps followed before the first application in 30 patients in Santa Fé (Argentina) where the technique was created [2]; (ii) the results of 50 cases (41 women, 9 men, aged 20 to 60) seen in São Paulo (Brazil) with a 92 % success rate; (iii) some possible lines of research for the future.

Purpose Patients with stroke suffer from physical disabilities, followed by mental instability. Their caregivers also suffer from mental instability. The present study attempted to address the degree and the change of the level of Purpose in Life (PIL) in patients with stroke and caregivers by applying art therapy using colors. Materials and Methods Twenty-eight stroke patients with a good functional recovery or a moderate disability and their 28 caregivers were selected and evaluated. The period of the study between the stroke and color therapy was more than 6 months. Patients and caregivers were divided into the color therapy (28) and control groups (28). A questionnaire, which measures the level of PIL was conducted separately for patients and caregivers prior to the first session of color therapy (2 hours per week, total 16 sessions). The final examination was performed 5 months after the last color therapy session. Results There was significant difference between before and after color therapy when the level of PIL was measured both in patients and caregivers (p<0.01). These were the same between the color therapy group, compared with the control group (p<0.01). As color therapy progressed to the late phase, patients and caregivers applied increasing number of colors and color intensity. Conclusion These results prove that color therapy will improve PIL of the patients with post-stroke disability and caregivers. Furthermore, color therapy would be a useful adjuvant for improving the quality of life of the patients with stroke and their caregivers.

Color light therapy is a therapeutic method in complementary medicine. In color therapy, light of two contrasting colors is often applied in a sequential order. The aim of this study was to investigate possible physiological effects, i.e., changes in the blood volume and oxygenation in the brain and calf muscle of healthy subjects who were exposed to red and blue light in sequential order. The hypothesis was that if a subject is first exposed to blue and then red light, the effect of the red light will be enhanced due to the contrastingly different characteristics of the two colors. The same was expected for blue light, if first exposing a subject to red and then to blue light. Twelve healthy volunteers (six male, six female) were measured twice on two different days by near-infrared spectroscopy during exposure to colored light. Two sequences of colored light were applied in a controlled, randomized, crossover design: first blue, then red, and vice versa. For the brain and muscle, the results showed no significant differences in blood volume and oxygenation between the two sequences, and a high interindividual physiological variability. Thus, the hypothesis had to be rejected. Comparing these data to results from a previous study, where subjects were exposed to blue and red light without sequential color changes, shows that the results of the current study appear to be similar to those of red light exposure. This may indicate that the exposure to red light was preponderant and thus effects of blue light were outweighed.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is one of the most important antioxidant enzymes present in all oxygen-metabolizing cells. This enzyme eliminates toxins from our body, so it is vital to understand its action and activity under the influence of different wavelengths. The effects of different wavelengths of light in the visible range on SOD activity were investigated. Enzyme samples were irradiated with five different wavelengths for chromotization. The absorbance values of the control and treated enzymes were subsequently measured. A wavelength of 644 nm (red) showed the maximum increase in absorbance compared with all other color wavelengths used. Yellow showed least absorption. Red color wavelength actually provides additional energy to the enzyme and hence the activation energy is lowered, compared with untreated enzyme.

Chromotherapy is based on the effect of colored light with different frequencies on human neurohormonal pathways, precisely on melatonin and serotonin pathways in brain. There is evidence that visible electromagnetic spectrum of light we see as colors can have impact on human health, Cicardian rhythm or biological clock is complex fundamental physiological and biological cycle in human organism. The biological clock in humans is located in the specialized group of brain cells called suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) within the anterior hypothalamus. The complex process of neurohormonal regulation of cicardian rhythm in humans is essential for synchronized interaction and coordination of internal body function with the environment. Given these facts it is clear that any shift in cicardian rhythm results in neurohormonal imbalance which consequently could lead to various psychiatric disorders affecting humans. Studies on sleep disorders, depression, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) suggested that symptoms, signs, and biologic markers associated to these psychiatric disorders are due to marked alterations in melatonin and serotonin levels. The main hypothesis of chromotherapy is that specific colors of the visible spectrum are activators or inhibitors of complex physiological, biological and biochemical processes in human brain such as synthesis of various neurohormons. According to all previous findings, our goal is future investigation of the effect and possible application of chromotherapy in the complementary psychiatric treatment in patients with diagnostic criteria which are clearly related to melatonin and serotonin disturbances.

Chromotherapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic radiation to cure diseases. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to cure various diseases. We have undertaken a critical analysis of chromotherapy and documented its scientific evolution to date. A few researchers have tried to discover the underlying scientific principles, but without quantitative study. Sufficient published material can be found about the subject that provides a complete system of treatment focused on the treatment methodologies and healing characteristics of colors. A number of studies have elaborated the relationship between the human body and colors. We also show the possibility of carrying out diverse research into chromotherapy that is pertinent to deciphering the quantum mechanical dipole moment of water molecules. The quantum mechanical dipole moment as a result of the absorption of different colors, we conjecture, produces charge quantization phenomena. This review illustrates that the development of science in the field of electromagnetic radiation/energy can be very helpful in discovering new dimensions of this old theory.

A series of investigations have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, analgesic, and vegetocorrective effects of extraocular selective polarized chromotherapy using blue and red light and the possibility to optimize autonomous regulation with the help of this technique. The results of the study confirmed the high clinical effectiveness and safety of the method being considered for the treatment of acute respiratory diseases, chronic tonsillitis, cervical dorsopathies, and vegetative dysfunction.

Optical spectrum of the sunlight consists of visible or chromatic spectrum, with the range of wavelengths of electromagnetic vibrations from 7700 to 3900 AU, and the invisible spectrum: infrared and ultraviolet. Chromatic spectrum gives rise to the sensation of colour, capable for simulating specialized retinal photoreceptors and is perceptible as light. This rule of perception of the particular range of the optical spectrum goes mainly for man, while particular deviations, more or less, are applicable to the rest of animal and plant life. The optical part of the spectrum belongs to nonionizing radiation. It created the life on the Earth, maintaining it nowadays and even threatening the human organ of vision, because the retina had not been yet adequately accommodated through evolution with its photoreactive metabolism. Human retina is very sensitive about possible harmful influence of ultraviolet and blue light even today in evolution, but also phototoxic on complete strong visible light. In their clinical and experimental work on animals, the authors prove with their own patent (P 20020077A)-Vojniković B&D, and in collaboration with Essilor Optic Austria GmbH, that particular medical filters in the range of green-yellow colour especially (565 to 570 nm), and in combination with "Transitions" successfully threat macular degeneration-AMD, slowing down its progression and having positive psychoorganic effect on the depressive mood of such patients with threatened sight. Full attention has been paid to the design of medical filter, so the periphery of the lens plays a positive role in blood concentration of melatonin, while the central part stimulates the sight and the concentration of serotonine. Thus the physiological balance of melatonin and serotonin and the stability of psychophysical disturbances have been achieved.
