To increase the flexibility in PCM decoding system, a microcomputer could play a vital role. A single microcomputer card with one or two peripheral devices replaces large number of conventional hardwired circuits with increasing reliability. This paper deals with various hardware and software aspects of using microcomputer system for PCM decoding, recording, monitoring, feedback controlling and bit-error rate counting. Although such a system has severe limitations in speed, still it could be very useful for many satellite data acquisition systems, communication and scientific applications.
