Based on theories that assume these spaces not only determine each other and are mutually dependent, but overlap, and together create the space we experience, the article brings together two projects that map and explore urban settlements in London and Los Angeles by setting out a trail from the database of the archive: the historical records of the interdisciplinary British social research project Mass Observation (on London's housing situation in the early 1940s) and collected data found on the social housing debate in Los Angeles during the early 1950s.

Overcoming a superficial view regarding the gender in handball, through the identification of differences between women and men in high level competitions is the objective of this work. Knowing on which observational variables or criteria (throwing, effectiveness, zone and referee signs) and categories these differences rely is essential for identifying strategic behaviors. An observational ... [Show full abstract] methodology was used to record the events of the game. Two women's and two men's handball matches were selected, belonging to the final phases of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The observational design was nomothetic, punctual and multidimensional. An ‘ad hoc’ tool was designed, and it was implemented by two evaluators. Once the data were recorded using the Lince software, they were analyzed through the data reduction technique Theme. The results evidenced the existence of T-patterns based on gender.

This article contends that it is possible to identify the beginning of a new phase in the development of the Olympic Games. ... In the case of those world cities, the emphasis appears more on strengthening their global status in an era of growing inter–urban competition and to finance large–scale planned construction projects in those cities.

Evidence of Gentrification-induced Displacement among Social Services in London and Los Angeles

To this end, evidence is examined of gentrification-induced displacement of 81 purposively sampled social service facilities across gentrifying boroughs in London (Islington, Lambeth, Southwark and ... Results suggested that substantial entrapment co-exists alongside displacement and, in fact, was more commonplace.
