In recent years, the number of studies on sustainable development has increased dramatically. The green economy has been positioned as a focus for future research due to the rapid growth of sustainable development studies. A green economy improves living standards and conserves and promotes the subtle utilization of natural resources. Although the concept of the green economy is continuously growing, there remains a gap in the focused research on its evolution and the conceptual landscape. In this context, a worldwide bibliometric analysis and visualization of green economy publications have been carried out to identify recent trends and hotspots using VOSviewer 1.6.10 software. A Web of Science (WoS) keyword search on “green economy” yielded 409 documents between 2002 and 2022. The documents were analyzed in terms of year of publication, countries, institutions, keywords, journals, co-authorship, and co-citations. It was revealed that there has been tremendous growth in green economy research from 2014 to 2019, with 158 published documents. Peoples R China is the forerunner and the most significant contributor to published documents, while India stands in 23rd place. Further, the most common research areas identified are green economy, transition, and energy. Although tourism is a critical driver of green transformation to facilitate global green growth, it is one of the least explored fields. India has a considerable scope for conducting green economy research through collaborations. After that, there was an investigation on a comparative understanding of the two main camps, mainstream and heterodox, toward a comprehensive analysis of sustainable development. This study recognized that limitations and biases are integral to the research approach. Finally, the policy implications of bibliometric analysis on international coalition on the green economy and suggestions on scientific reproduction.

A bstract The Journal of Indian Medical Heritage (formerly known as Bulletin of the Institute of History of Medicine, Bulletin of the Indian Institute of History of Medicine , and Journal of Indian Institute of History of Medicine ) published by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), New Delhi. The journal publishes literary research and medico-historical studies on Ayush medical systems, Modern medicine, other world medical traditions, History, Archeology, Anthropology, Indology, and Literature. The aim of the study was to carry out a detailed bibliometric analysis of articles published in the Journal of Indian Medical Heritage (JIMH) from 1971 to 2020. As of March 2021, the journal published 50 volumes from 1971 to 2020. The present analysis covers and discusses the year-wise distributions of papers; authorship pattern; most prolific authors; length of papers; number of citations; indexed papers, geographical distribution of papers; and organization-wise, subject-wise, and category-wise distribution of papers. The study shows that a total of 581 full-length papers and 5457 citations were published during 1971–2020. Among 581 papers, 393 (67.64%) papers are contributed by single authors and 188 (32.36%) by joint authorship. The majority of papers had 6–10 pages (216), and the highest number of papers was contributed by authors from India (87.61%) and by CCRAS (59.12%). The research publications are categorized under fifteen subject areas, and the three top papers are published on the subject of Ayurveda (224), followed by the Unani medical system (119) and Modern medicine (42). It is noted that the published papers under different subjects are inherently classified under twelve categories, and the three top papers pertaining to medico-historical studies (172), descriptive notes on manuscripts, rare books (92), and biographical profiles of authors of classical treatises and eminent personalities who significantly contributed in medical systems (84). The current study explores the intellectual structure and trends in medico-historical studies in Ayush medical systems, modern medicine, and health-related domain areas.
... In a wide sense, definitions of the term research collaboration describe it as a temporary social process between scholars or scientists in which they share knowledge, skills and techniques, technical and financial resources, divide labour, become interdependent and provide bilateral stimulation usually with the aim of producing knowledge (Katz and Martin 1997;Laudel 2002;Bozeman, Fay and Slade 2013;Jeong, Choi and Kim 2014;Kosmützky 2018). Collaborations may occur at different organisational levels (e. g. individual, institutional, national or international), between different sectors (e. g. university/HE and industry), between disciplines, between different ranks of academics or between female and male researchers (Subramanyam 1983;Abramo, D' Angelo and Murgia 2014;Bozeman, Fay and Slade 2013;Bozeman and Gaughan 2011). ...
... A common method to measure and analyse research collaborations are bibliometric analyses of co-authorships, usually resulting in metrics or descriptions of networks (Katz and Martin 1997;Bukova 2010;Savanur and Srikanth 2010). Subramanyam (1983) highlights the benefits of using co-authorship of research papers as measure of collaboration: 1) the number of co-authors in a defined sample is invariant and other researchers with access to the same set of data should be able to reproduce the results; 2) the results are quantifiable; 3) the method is non-reactive, i.e. the process of research on collaboration is not affecting the process of collaboration itself. Katz and Martin (1997) note that the size of the sample that can be analysed can be substantial and the findings more statistically relevant than findings based on smaller samples from case studies. ...

In this chapter, we present an overview of the mobility patterns of our African early-career researcher (ECR) respondents during the different stages of their tertiary education and career. We discuss the benefits, challenges and barriers to international mobility they have experienced and provide an in-depth analysis of the relationship between mobility and the propensity for collaborative networks. In order to nuance the outcomes and recommendations, we distinguish mobility within Africa and mobility elsewhere in the world, as well as short and longterm mobility.
... An important science in understanding the dynamics of academic communication, the influence of research and the evolution of knowledge, bibliometrics has arisen in an era characterized by information overload and the digital revolution of academia (Kamboj and Sudhir Kumar Tyagi, 2024). As academic landscapes continually expand, it becomes increasingly challenging to discern trends, measure scholarly output and gauges the influence of individual researchers, institutions, or scientific fields (Subramanyam, 1983;Rodriguez, 2006). Conventional literature reviews are highly valuable for providing in-depth qualitative insights into the existing literature. ...
... Researchers may also manually track citations and references to key papers to understand their influence and the impact they have had on subsequent research. (Rozas and Klein, 2010) On the other hand, bibliometric study, being an upcoming approach, focusses of quantitative analysis of existing work over in-depth abstract analysis (Subramanyam, 1983). Bibliometric studies, using quantitative analysis, offer a complementary approach to conventional literature reviews and they are gaining popularity for several reasons: ...

Bibliometrics involves the quantitative analysis of publication patterns, citation statistics and research trends, providing crucial insights into academic impact and emerging study areas. This comparative analysis explores the innovative and ever evolving horizon of bibliometric analysis in academia and research. In the era characterized by a rapid increase in academic publications, the imperative to employ data analytics tools for extracting knowledge and making informed strategic decisions has grown substantially. This paper highlights the growing importance of data analytics tools in bibliometric analysis amidst the surge in academic publications. By transitioning from traditional literature reviews to advanced tools like VOSviewer, Origin Lab, SPSS and machine learning, the study illustrates how these technologies enhance bibliometric studies. A case study on nutrient recovery from human urine, analysing 520 refined papers from Scopus and Web of Science, demonstrates the application of these tools in identifying research trends, geospatial distribution and collaboration networks. This methodology underscores the effectiveness of data analytics in addressing real-world research challenges and advancing the field of bibliometrics.
... The most noted are that scientific collaborations do not always lead to publication of results and that co-authorship of a publication does not necessarily indicate real collaboration (Melin and Persson 1996, Katz and Martin 1997, Laudel 2001). However, publication in co-authorship remains one of the most tangible and best documented indicators of research collaboration (Subramanyam 1983;Katz andMartin 1997, Glänzel andSchubert 2004). Subramanyam (1983) argues that using co-authorship as a proxy for collaboration offers a series of advantages because it is: i) invariant, ii) easily and inexpensively ascertainable iii) quantifiable and iv) non-reactive (i.e. the process of ascertaining collaboration does not affect the process of collaboration itself). ...

This study concerns the market for research collaboration between industry and universities. It presents an analysis of the population of all Italian university-industry collaborations that resulted in at least one international scientific publication between 2001 and 2003. Using spatial and bibliometric analysis relating to scientific output of university researchers, the study shows the importance of geographic proximity in companies' choices of university partner. The analysis also reveals inefficiency in the market: in a large proportion of cases private companies could have chosen more qualified research partners in universities located closer to the place of business.

Information retrieval (IR) is about gathering, organizing, and querying information or data from a collection of documents or databases. IR is a multidisciplinary field that includes computer science, library science, linguistics, and mathematics. We performed an in-depth bibliometric analysis of the WoS data to find chronological growth, authorship pattern, most prolific authors, cited documents, productive institutions and countries, keywords, key areas, and preferred journals. Analyzed data on IR shows that 5,075 publications authored by 7,710 authors were cited 71,933 times. The most productive countries are the USA, UK, and China. “The University of Sheffield” from the UK is top with 101 total publications. Information Processing and Management is the most preferred journal for IR researchers. The National Natural Science Foundation of China funded 76 publications. The study’s findings indicate that the collaboration degree in IR research is 0.642, implying that 64.2% of the total publications are authored by two or more than two authors, which gives a decent idea of the extent of collaborative research. IR is an important study area and has been researched in various contexts, including database designing, classification, ontology, text mining, digital libraries, and social media. The findings provide up-to-date information on the present state and trends in IR research and will assist researchers in studies to aid in research, development, and innovation.
... 2) Co-authorship networks. In the vast literature on bibliometrics, co-authorships are usually formalized as affiliation networks, in which scholars are linked through the scientific publications they co-publish (Subramanyam 1983;Glänzel and Schubert 2005). While most contributions in this field interpret coauthorship as dyadic relationships between actors, a meso-approach can contribute to the understanding of the structure and dynamics of these knowledge networks. ...

Real-world economies feature social structures without formal frontiers that lie between the micro and macro levels. Traditional network analysis tools fail to account properly for these supra-dyadic structures, which emerge from individual interactions, shape economic aggregates, and in turn affect micro behaviors. We argue that supra-dyadic network analysis tools can correct the biases of traditional dyadic ones. We present two new methodologies: the “place-based methodology” (assessing agents’ structural equivalence in affiliation networks) and the “chain-based methodology” (assessing agents’ substitutability in sequential interaction networks). We discuss their possible applications and potential to renew the study of evolutionary and institutional dynamics.
... Bibliometric analyses are important for mapping the evolution of a scientific field via literature databases and in identifying the most relevant and contextualized studies that could provide answers to specific research questions (Birkle et al., 2020;Subramanyam, 1983). It is a transparent, reproducible and reliable process that involves a rigorous literature search based on previously defined descriptors, and is firmly established as an important facet of research evaluation (Oliveira et al., 2019). ...

Purpose-This study aims to describe a bibliometric analysis of recent articles addressing the applications of e-noses with particular emphasis on those dealing with fuel-related products. Documents covering the general area of e-nose research and published between 1975 and 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science database, and peer-reviewed articles were selected and appraised according to specific descriptors and criteria. Design/methodology/approach-Analyses were performed by mapping the knowledge domain using the software tools VOSviewer and RStudio. It was possible to identify the countries, research organizations, authors and disciplines that were most prolific in the area, together with the most cited articles and the most frequent keywords. A total of 3,921 articles published in peer-reviewed journals were initially retrieved but only 47 (1.19%) described fuel-related e-nose applications with original articles published in indexed journals. However, this number was reduced to 38 (0.96%) articles strictly related to the target subject. Findings-Rigorous appraisal of these documents yielded 22 articles that could be classified into two groups, those aimed at predicting the values of key parameters and those dealing with the discrimination of samples. Most of these 22 selected articles (68.2%) were published between 2017 and 2021, but little evidence was apparent of international collaboration between researchers and institutions currently working on this topic. The strategy of switching energy systems away from fossil fuels towards low-carbon renewable technologies that has been adopted by many countries will generate substantial research opportunities in the prediction, discrimination and quantification of volatiles in biofuels using e-nose. Research limitations/implications-It is important to highlight that the greatest difficulty in using the e-nose is the interpretation of the data generated by the equipment; most studies have so far used the maximum value of the electrical resistance signal of each e-nose sensor as the only data provided by this sensor; however, from 2019 onwards, some works began to consider the entire electrical resistance curve as a data source, extracting more information from it. Originality/value-This study opens a new and promising way for the effective use of e-nose as a fuel analysis instrument, as low-cost sensors can be developed for use with the new data analysis methodology, enabling the production of portable, cheaper and more reliable equipment.

The secondary battery market continues to grow, driven by the increasing demand for sustainable energy storage solutions. However, recent international environmental changes have increased technological protectionism for this key technology. This policy shift will require closer cooperation among allies. This study examined the structure and changes in international research collaboration in secondary batteries. Utilizing the Web of Science database, we applied scientometric analysis techniques to publication data and co-authorship networks. In particular, we identified the structure of the network and key patterns and trends over the last decade to identify dynamic changes. The proportion of collaborative research in secondary battery research papers has steadily increased. Our key findings show that international collaboration in secondary battery research is increasing and that China's influence continues to grow. In particular, the secondary battery international research collaboration network is path-dependent on previously established networks. This path-dependence should be considered for strategic alliances and joint international research in secondary battery research. These findings provide valuable insights into the dynamics of collaboration and can inform policy efforts to promote international collaboration in secondary batteries.

The present study aims to investigate the authorship pattern, authors’ productivity, citation count and degree of collaboration in an open-access LIS journal Annals of Library and Information Studies through a gender lens. The raw data for the study are extracted from the Scopus database. The search has been initiated by selecting “Source title” and using the name of the journal “Annals of Library and Information Studies” as a keyword. A total of 393 documents were resulted in the initial search. Then the data was filtered by limiting the year range from 2014-2023 and considering only “Article” and “Review” as the document type. The final 294 documents which resulted after filtering relevant criteria are exported in .csv format and considered for the study. MS Excel is used for the analysis and authors’ genders are identified through the online software named Namsor. The research publications in the journal are contributed through various authorship patterns. Male authors are dominant over female authors in research productivity, number of research publications and citation count irrespective of collaboration or without collaboration. The degree of collaboration among authors considering male-to-male collaboration and female-to-female collaboration is lesser than the average degree of collaboration. However, female authors are contributing more research papers when they are in collaboration with male authors. The present study is the first systematic analysis regarding the publications of Annals of Library and Information Studies through gender lens. The results of the study will serve as a valuable reference for future researchers, think tanks of the LIS field and policymakers.

... The principle limitations of such an approach are that scientific collaborations do not always lead to publication of results and that co-authorship of a publication does not necessarily indicate real collaboration (Melin and Persson 1996;Katz and Martin 1997;Laudel 2002). However, co-authored publication remains one of the most tangible and best documented indicators of research collaboration (Subramanyam 1983;Katz and Martin 1997;Glänzel and Schubert 2004). ...

Policy makers, at various levels of governance, generally encourage the development of research collaboration. However the underlying determinants of collaboration are not completely clear. In particular, the literature lacks studies that, taking the individual researcher as the unit of analysis, attempt to understand if and to what extent the researcher's scientific performance might impact on his/her degree of collaboration with foreign colleagues. The current work examines the international collaborations of Italian university researchers for the period 2001-2005, and puts them in relation to each individual's research performance. The results of the investigation, which assumes co-authorship as proxy of research collaboration, show that both research productivity and average quality of output have positive effects on the degree of international collaboration achieved by a scientist.

Doctoral theses are an important source of publication in universities, although little research has been carried out on the publications resulting from theses, on so-called derivative articles. This study investigates how derivative articles can be identified through a text analysis based on the full-text of a set of medical theses and the full-text of articles, with which they shared authorship. The text similarity analysis methodology applied consisted in exploiting the full-text articles according to organization of scientific discourse (IMRaD) using the TurnItIn plagiarism tool. The study found that the text similarity rate in the Discussion section can be used to discriminate derivative articles from non-derivative articles. Additional findings were: the first position of the thesis's author dominated in 85% of derivative articles, the participation of supervisors as coauthors occurred in 100% of derivative articles, the authorship credit retained by the thesis's author was 42% in derivative articles, the number of coauthors by article was 5 in derivative articles versus 6.4 coauthors, as average, in non-derivative articles and the time differential regarding the year of thesis completion showed that 87.5% of derivative articles were published before or in the same year of thesis completion.

The analysis of research collaboration by field is traditionally conducted beginning with the classification of the publications from the context of interest. In this work we propose an alternative approach based on the classification of the authors by field. The proposed method is more precise if the intended use is to provide a benchmark for the evaluation of individual propensity to collaborate. In the current study we apply the new methodology to all Italian university researchers in the hard sciences, measuring the propensity to collaborate for the various fields: in general, and specifically with intramural colleagues, extramural domestic and extramural foreign organizations. Using a simulation, we show that the results present substantial differences from those obtained through application of traditional approaches.

This study examines the development of research on the use of augmented reality (AR) in education with bibliometric mapping analysis using VOSviewer. This article was compiled from the Google Scholar database using the Publish or Perish application. Titles and articles are searched by entering the keywords "augmented reality, education". This study analysed the indexed database of Google Scholar for 10 years (2012-2021) which resulted in 756 articles. The results of research on the use of AR in education show an increase every year, except from 2020 to 2021 there is a decrease in total publications. There are two research themes, namely the AR theme which resulted in a total of 254 links, 4494 total link strength, and 772 occurrences. The education theme resulted in a total of 253 links, 3313 total link strength, and 552 occurrences. Research topics that are trending and frequently researched are AR, education, higher education, experience, teaching, learning, use, teachers, books, studies, applications, and development. This means that there are still many research topics that need to be researched and will continue to be developed. Therefore, this review can be a starting point for research related to other fields of study.

In this study, it is aimed to answer the research question "what is the place and status of architectural research in perception studies?". At the same time, determining the validity of the VOSviewer program, which is widely used for systematic bibliometric analysis, within the scope of the study constitutes an indirect secondary objective of the research. In this direction, two consecutive bibliometric analyses, each with a different depth, were conducted to see the range of spatial perception studies and to explore its sub-expansions. In this context, two keyword groups were created for the first two phases of the study. Document type and category were restricted to determine the research framework. In this framework, the studies identified in the first phase (n=2727) and the second phase (n=243) were transferred to the VOSviewer program for bibliometric analysis and analyzed. In the last phase of the study, a flow-quantity diagram was created for the article studies identified in the second phase using the Sankey diagram generator (n=92). When the studies scanned in Web of Science were analyzed, it was found that the studies involving the concepts in the research framework were mostly related to the concept of comfort and the least related to the concept of happiness.

Landscape sustainability (LS) has received widespread attention from both scientists and practitioners in recent decades. However, a systematic review of the recent trends in this field remains scarce. Here, we present a bibliometric analysis of 715 English papers published in SCI journals (i.e., indexed by Web of Science) during 2006–2023, whose titles, abstracts, or keywords contain both landscape-related terms and sustainability-related terms. Specifically, we quantitatively analyzed the LS literature using a variety of bibliometric methods and qualitatively analyzed the full text of highly cited seminal literature to cross-validate the bibliometric findings. We found that: (1) LS has entered the exponential growth phase (2013–present) after experiencing the incubation phase (pre–2006) and emerging phase (2006–2013). (2) Early LS themes focused on landscape change and the relationship between landscape ecology and sustainability science, while recent LS themes have shifted towards more sectoral topics, such as the relationship between ecosystem services and human well-being, climate change, and urbanization. (3) The closely connected network of cross-citations in seminal literature indicates strong communication among scientists in the field of LS. However, the participatory and solution-oriented research streams of LS have not been well integrated into the core research network of LS. Our results suggest that LS has evolved into a rapidly growing discipline with a stable scientific community and core research themes. To become a well-established discipline, LS needs to further enhance its unique scientific core rather than only drawing knowledge from other related fields. Constructing social–ecological-centered, solution-oriented landscape pattern analysis theory and methods for LS should be a top priority.

1134 documents on Peruvian rock art published until July 2019 are analyzed. These documents are disseminated through academic journals and are preferably published in Spanish and English. The production of documents conforms properly to Lotka's Law and the generalized inverse power model adequately predicts this distribution. This literature is highly hierarchical and stratified with just 25 authors responsible for 46.3% of the total published documents. The Herfindahl and Gini indices, as well as the Simpson and Shanon diversity and equity indices confirm that the production of documents in this discipline is highly concentrated, not very diverse, nor equitable. In the authors' collaboration, the concentration of documents produced by unique authors is noticeable and only a fifth of the documents were produced in collaboration by two or more authors. However, collaborative production becomes more intense and effective from the 1990s. This literature has entered into an epidemic process since the year 2000 and grows exponentially at a rate of 7% per year doubling its size every 10 years.

This paper seeks to understand the knowledge dynamics of the bilateral R&D project between Greek and Chinese researchers initiated in 2018. Our research involves a two-part empirical approach: first, we distributed a structured questionnaire to the researchers involved, and second, we examined bibliometric and technometric databases to independently verify their responses. Despite the collaborative nature of the project, findings reveal that publications resulting from this initiative were primarily authored by Greek or Chinese researchers alone, with minimal involvement from the collaborating partners. This trend is even more pronounced in technology outputs, where Chinese researchers filed patents independently. These important findings are contextualized within the debates on global science collaboration and the wider issues pertaining to geopolitical competitions and intentional and unwanted knowledge transfer. Lastly, we argue in favor of our method being employed in future evaluation and monitoring exercises.

The green economy has emerged as a pivotal framework for reconciling economic growth with sustainability, yet its global research landscape remains fragmented and under explored. This study addresses this gap through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 1,471 Scopus-indexed publications (2007–2024), employing VOSviewer and Python to map research trends, collaborations, and thematic clusters. The primary contributions of this work are threefold: First, it systematically quantifies global research disparities, revealing China’s dominance (38.8% of publications) and the under representation of developing nations. Second, it identifies interdisciplinary thematic clusters; renewable energy transitions, policy governance, and economic decarbonization; while exposing critical gaps in addressing social equity and localized strategies for low-income regions. Third, it proposes actionable policy pathways, including North-South research partnerships and digital technology integration such as, AI-driven governance, blockchain for transparency, to bridge these gaps. Findings highlight exponential growth in research post-2016, driven by global climate agreements, but emphasize persistent imbalances in geographic and thematic focus. By advocating for inclusive, interdisciplinary approaches, this study provides a road map for aligning green economy strategies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The results underscore the urgency of prioritizing social equity alongside technological innovation to ensure sustainable global transitions.
