The current situation in this Evidence based scientific world requires authenticated documents of Traditional Siddha texts to be mentioned in terms which everyone can understand. In that way, the role and efficacy of Siddha medicines in treating the dreaded fevers such as Chikun-gunya, Dengue, swine flu etc has raised awareness among the public and scientific community regarding the role of more sastric preparations in treating fevers. Fevers, which are 64 in number is further divided into 52 types (Intrinsic) and 12 (extrinsic). Baya suram is one among the extrinsic type of fever and attracts concern through its name (Bayam – Fear/panic, Suram – Fever).
