at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (until 22:00)
19:30
Friday August 15, 2014 – afternoon 8th International Congress of Dipterology
The exhibition “Fliegen” was originally designed in the Natural
History Museum, Neuchâtel, where it became a big success
and has been awarded the Prix Expo. Since then the exhibition
traveled to Luxembourg, Nantes, and Basel. Ever since we started
planning the ICD8, we promoted the idea to bring the exhibition to
Germany within the context of the Congress.
The exhibition will be opened to the public with a reception on
Friday evening. The Natural History Museum invites all ICD8
delegates to this event, which will also be a farewell reception
for the Congress, with an introductory address (in German) by
Mark Benecke. The subsequent tour of the exhibition will be
accompanied by a performance of the “Berliner Vokalensemble
Kammerton” choir, which was created especially for the
exhibition.
Busses to the opening and farewell reception will leave from the
Congress Hotel at 18:15.

Beneficials are useful organisms (insects and mites) deployed in
the biological pest control. Beneficials present an alternative without
side effects to the chemical plant protection in the greenhouse
and in interior spaces. Predatory as well as parasitic species are
deployed.

Japanagromyza Sasakawa, 1958 (Diptera, Agromyzidae) is poorly known from Brazil, with only three species recorded. This contribution increases the knowledge of the genus in Brazil, where two new species are described and illustrations of male and female adults and terminalia are presented. The material was collected in states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rondônia and is deposited in the collections of Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo and Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
