Abstract

This volume contains the extended abstracts of the keynote lectures, oral communica- tions, and posters presented at the 10th edition of the international conference series on Laser-light and Interactions with Particles (LIP2014), held in Marseille, France from August 25th to 29th 2014. This event was co-organized by the IUSTI laboratory and Fresnel Institute of Aix-Marseille University in partnership with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). This conference series was initiated and founded by G. Gouesbet and G. Gréhan in 1987 at Rouen (France), under the title "Optical Particle Sizing, theory and practice (OPS)". In order to follow the developments and demands in this field, the title of the following editions was changed to "Optical Particle Characterization (OPC)": Phoenix, USA, 1990 (D. Hirleman); Yokohama, Japan, 1993 (M. Maeda); Nürnberg, Germany, 1995 (F. Durst); Minneapolis, USA, 1998 (A. Naqwi); Brighton, England, 2001 (A. Jones); Kyoto, Japan, 2004 (M. Itoh) and Graz, Austria, 2007 (O. Glätter). The conference re- turned to its roots in Rouen in 2012 where it was decided to change its title to "Laser- light and Interactions with Particles", and to expand its scope to cover: laser and acoustic beam shape descriptions; far-field, near-field, resonant and time-resolved scattering; mechanical effects of light; complex particle shapes and aggregates; and optical particle sizing and characterization methods. Covered applications range from multiphase flows, aerosol and atmospheric environment sciences, biomedical optical engineering, remote manipulation of objects, plasma and soft matter physics, etc. A special issue of full-size papers, documenting research either reported at the conference or pertaining to the main topics of LIP2014, is planned for publication in Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer. We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to those who contributed to the success of the conference. The assistance provided by the Honorary, Scientific, and Advisory committees in assessing abstracts, was highly appreciated. We gratefully acknowledge the companies who participated in the exhibition of scientific equip- ment, and all the institutions that financially sponsored this event. Our final thanks go to the regular and new participants who are essential to the success of this LIP conference.
